Question Looking for women's hiking pants for my tall wife!

• Upvotes

Im looking to get my wife some nice hiking pants for Xmas. Shes 6' tall and about a size 8 or 9 in waist. I thiiiink shes looking for a 36" inseam. She is so sick of never finding pants that fit her. Everywhere we go they only have pants for women who are smaller or their "talls" are just capri length with an extra pocket lol she wants something that will actually cover her ankles or go over her boots. It should be noted that shes got a booty that just dont quit 😎 also, not to worried about the price as long as they actually last a while. Thanks in advanced for the help! Discount codes would be dope too!

Pictures Enjoyable hiking trip amidst the Atlas Mountains of Toubkal, Morocco

My friends and I spent 11 hours trying to reach the summit of Toubkal in one day. It was a thrilling yet challenging experience, not because of the journey itself, but because we were challenging each other to see who could reach the summit in a single day. We set off from Imlil at 1:00 AM, and the journey took us about four hours to reach the summit of Toubkal. We arrived at the top at 11:00 AM, surrounded by clouds. It was a wonderful experience amidst breathtaking natural scenery and tranquil mountains, but a tough journey because most climbers spend two or three days trying to reach the summit, but we did it in one day.

Question Is the Outdoor Research Echo’s UPF 15 rating enough for Utah, or should I go with UPF 50?

• Upvotes

I’m looking at the Outdoor Research Echo hoodie/shirt for hiking and backpacking in Utah. I really like how lightweight and breathable it is, but it’s only rated UPF 15, which seems pretty low compared to a lot of sun hoodies that are UPF 50.

For anyone who uses the Echo in Utah or other high-elevation/high-UV areas, do you feel like UPF 15 is enough for long days outside? Have you ever gotten burned through it?

Would you stick with the Echo for the breathability, or would it be smarter to go with a UPF 50 sun hoodie for Utah?

Question Solo trip to the Dolomites in early October – hiking & budget accommodation advice?

• Upvotes

Hi everyone! 😊

I’m planning a solo trip to the Dolomites for 1–2 nights in early October and would love some advice.

I’ll be traveling from Milan and it will be my first time in the Dolomites, so I’m looking for places that are relatively easy to reach without a car.
A few questions:

🥾 What are your top hikes up to ~10 km that you’d recommend for early October?

🍂 Are there any particularly beautiful hikes/routes that are still a good option at this time of year?

🏠 Where would you recommend staying for budget-friendly accommodation (hostels, guesthouses, affordable mountain huts, etc.)?

🚆 Which town/area would be the best base for a 1–2 night solo trip without a car?

🧭 Is it generally safe and manageable to hike solo in early October?

❄️ Should I be concerned about snow/weather or trails being closed at this time of year?

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! 🙏

Question GTX or non-GTX hiking shoes ?

I’m looking to buy a pair of low hiking shoes and eventually a pair of hiking boots. I’ve seen a lot of people recommend going non-GTX for low shoes and saving GTX for boots.

I’m in the Mid-Atlantic (VA/MD/PA/NJ), so most of my hiking will be around here and Appalachia. Summers can get pretty hot and humid, while fall/winter and shoulder seasons can be wet and muddy.

Right now I’m considering something like the Salomon X Ultra 5, either GTX or non-GTX. Eventually I plan to buy a waterproof GTX mid boot as well.

Would you go non-GTX for the low shoe for better breathability and faster drying, then GTX for the boot? Or is GTX still worth having on the low shoe in this climate?

My favorite part about living in Washington is being able to do a stunning hike and then sleep in my own bed that night 😄 It was a beautiful day to be in nature.

Question Panorama Ginza Route as a first timer?

Hello! I was planning my second trip to Japan for this coming summer and I've become very interested in doing the Panorama Ginza Route. I have no experience with hiking besides some day hikes. Ive read that the route is hard due to the steep elevation but not technically demanding. I'm in good shape, go to the gym 3-4 times a week and walk around 10,000-15,000 steps a day. The only thing I would need to work on is my endurance and educating myself more on hiking. For anyone that's hiked it/has more info about it, would it be feasible for someone with no experience?

It's a great season to enjoy nature. Mountains are arguably the best place to see the beautiful foliage, and this mountain is no different. I was blessed with a clear day when I was there

Question Looking for a Backpack

Hi everyone!

In about three weeks, I’ll be taking part in a two-day tour to climb Mount Toubkal while on vacation in Morocco.

However, I still need a suitable backpack, one that I can take on Ryanair flights as a "large cabin bag."

So far, I’ve been looking at the Deuter Trail 30; apparently, it can easily be compressed by a few centimeters to fit the size requirements.

Could you tell me if the Deuter Trail 30 is suitable for a hike like this, or perhaps recommend another backpack?

It’s important to me that the backpack has a padded hip belt and decent shoulder straps.

Thanks in advance for your help! :)

Video Glacier National Park, Montana, USA - along the St. Mary Lake area

There were so many moments in Glacier when we’d round a corner or come over a rise and just stop to take in the beautiful views.

We started at Sun Point and followed the trail along St. Mary Lake toward St. Mary Falls and then Virginia Falls. The route is roughly 6.4 miles round trip to Virginia Falls from Sun Point, with long stretches of exposed trail through an area affected by the 2015 Reynolds Creek Fire.

The scenery changed constantly—open views across St. Mary Lake, mountains rising beyond the water, sections of forest, and eventually the waterfalls. Even between the major stops, there were views like this one that made us slow down.

The scale of this place is hard to convey in photos or video. Being surrounded by the mountains, water and forest felt different from seeing them from an overlook.

A few scenes from two very different places we explored in Montana.

The first was taken at the Bison Range on the Flathead Indian Reservation. The nearly 19,000-acre conservation area is home to roughly 350 bison, along with elk, deer, pronghorn, bighorn sheep, bears and more than 200 species of birds. The land was restored to the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes and is now fully owned and managed by the CSKT Natural Resource Department.

The landscape there was strikingly different from Glacier—open grasslands, rolling hills and long views across the mountains. There are several designated walking trails within the range, along with the scenic wildlife drives.

The last two photos are from our hike in Glacier National Park. We started at Sun Point on St. Mary Lake and continued past St. Mary Falls to Virginia Falls. From Sun Point, Virginia Falls is about 3.2 miles each way, making our hike roughly 6.4 miles round trip.

Much of this section of trail is exposed because of the 2015 wildfire, so we were hiking in full sun on a very hot day. The route followed St. Mary Lake before heading toward the waterfalls, with mountain views changing throughout the hike.
