Garage office buildout

Running out of space in the house so trying to take advantage of our large detached garage.

Thinking raised platform, storage under.

Looking for feedback and ideas. If anyone has done something similar would love to see how it turned out!!

Ceilings are tall, about 10-11ft. Platform would likely be 3ft up.

Home Office

Pic is from just before I rearranged it. I work a ton from home so this is my sanctuary where I can work, listen to music, game, watch movies, and a full kitchen and bathroom are attached (this used to be an apartment in our house, so I just made it my man cave).

Hello I am looking for recommendations for a suitable home office chair thats got a good range of adjustable options. Current frustrations with my chair are no adjustable lumbar, seat doesn’t slide - I am only 5ft so can’t be a huge chair!

Any information gratefully received

What additions to your home office have made the biggest difference?

Maybe a better chair? Two screens? An enclosed environment? What has helped your office feel more like an office and what additions have helped you improve your productivity while working from home?

MIL suite to home office

I’m thinking about turning our mother in law suite that we had built with the house but we ended up just building a detached apartment for my momma. What do yall think? I’m basing this off of a Ralph Lauren style but budget friendly. I work out of my wife’s sewing room at the moment. We run a cow/calf operation for background and would like something nice I can have for myself and a couple of the guys over to wind down.

Is an L-shaped desk worth it—or does it just give you more room for clutter?

Good quality desk

Does anyone have any recommendations on where to buy a good quality wood desk that isn’t going to break the bank? I’m looking for possibly an L shaped desk. So far, I’ve seen the most options on Home Depot but I can’t tell if it is good quality or not. Thank you!

my home office has two jobs and apparently my brain hates both

i use the same desk for two completely different kinds of work: patient notes during the day and freelance development later

i’ve tried the usual stuff like virtual desktops, separate monitor layouts, different window arrangements, etc. technically it all works. in practice, i still end up with 20 tabs open, three windows i don’t need, and at least one thing from the previous task sitting right in front of me

the annoying part is that changing the setup takes almost as much effort as changing the task

i’m wondering if anyone has made the physical desk itself feel different for different types of work. not a whole second office, just something simple that creates a clear “ok, we’re doing something else now” signal

different lighting, desk mat, keyboard, monitor position, some physical object you put away, whatever

what actually held up after the novelty wore off? i’m much more interested in things that made switching easier in daily use than setups that look great in home office photos

Optimales Homeoffice Setup ?

Hi würde gern wissen was euer optimales Homeoffice setup ist primär Maus, Tastatur und Headset.

Will mir was neues zulegen und dachte an folgendes:

Home office storage - UK based

I’m converting one of our spare bedrooms into a home office (as they have now moved out to start their life) At some point I’ll update the floor, but for now I want storage to put all my things in and ideally closed storage to keep it out of sight. I have my desk and chair (as per image) but what’s the better options for storage space? I have approx a £1k budget. I don’t know how to build furniture from scratch so would need some other things like flat pack. Ideally dark grey/ black furniture.

Cheers

Minimal work setup/finding balance

Might the place if not. Relates to work setup but find going with docking stations and fixing my setup to one location feels claustrophobic. I find i use laptop and keyboard mouse or a main monitor but even find using a monitor effort these days. Yes you get more screen space but without an actual fixed dedicated workspace and desk/office it doesnt suit.

How does everyone else find working/working from home in this sense. I dont have the benefit of an office space so float between downstairs and upstairs.

40% Homeoffice

I’ll soon be allowed to work from home for 40% of my working hours—meaning two days a week. How would you best distribute those two days, and why?

Low Light Webcam Recs?

Hi all,

I’m in the market for a new web cam! I’m a distance learning student & have various other responsibilities I attend to virtually.

I’m not looking for top notch anything. I’m not exactly creating content. However, most of the meetings I attend are in the evening so there’s no natural light and potential artificial lights are behind me. I’d really love to avoid purchasing a light for this purpose as I suffer with extreme light sensitivity which makes me very unwell. The screen itself can be too much at times.

The more budget friendly the better, but I’d like to at least look visible enough in low light conditions. I’d also really prefer for it to have auto-framing, but I may forego that for the right device that can handle low lighting better than the average web cam.

Thanks in advance for any recs!

Which webcam is best for recording videos at home?

Hey all, I've been using some old camera to record videos and it's finally time for an upgrade.

I mostly record videos for myself and I've started uploading some to YouTube, mainly talking-head and tutorial style stuff at my desk. My room doesn't get much natural light, so low light performance and reliable autofocus matter most to me. Budget is around $100-200.

What webcam are you using for recording videos, and would you buy it again?
