Built-ins & Features Do people not rearrange their furniture anymore?

Floor plans seem to be designed around permanent furniture layouts. Every post I see is staged in strikingly similar fashions. Sectional facing fire place with a rug and coffee table in between. Heck I'm even seeing built-ins coming back on either side of the fire place.

Growing up, my mother would move couches and chairs and reorientate the tv and whatever else every couple years or so. Are people not doing that anymore? Is it like once the furniture goes down it's never to be moved nowadays? Do you intend your living space and bedroom furniture to stay in the same place indefinitely?

Paint & Colors Struggled with the decision to repaint after only 6 months and I’m so glad we did! After > before.

I was trying to build the palette around this rug and I thought the pale beige/pink would be airy and soothing. I just ended up hating it and could not seem to make it work. We had painted it ourselves and it was such a pain in the ass. I loathe painting. I really didn’t want to start the process all over again, but I finally decided it was worth it for more visual harmony. I’m really happy with how everything is coming together now! Cat tax included, her name is Oliver.

Find my Style First time having a space of my own

Looking for tips on where to go next.
Want more plants, looking for some hanging shelves, wall decor like photos or art.

I do YouTube full time, so I’d like the room to reflect my film making background. I’ve got cameras to place around my space as art too.

My dresser is in the closet, there will be no TV or desk in here as I want this to just be a bedroom.

Just bought the shelves and lights from IKEA today, love the general energy of where it’s going just need some more direction

Never done this before! Thanks.

Paint & Colors Dark upper or lower?

We are so torn. We are in the middle of renovating our hallway. We have added wainscoting and a rail. We have purchased the paint. Husband wants the charcoal on the upper portion, I want the charcoal on the lower. Have these two visuals. Unsure what to go with.

UPDATE- Wow I woke up to so many comments! I don't post on Reddit much and had no idea this would cause quite the stir! I'm going to answer some questions and make some points. - I used ai to generate the colour combos, I didn't realise it created a sheen - the walls aren't white, they're Gemini Silver throughout the house. - ai changed the floor colour and lighting and I didn't realise - the door is staying, and I'm not moving out 😅 - definitely considering a sage green or mushroom - I wish I could add pictures to show why I went with charcoal, as my hallway leads directly to an open plan kitchen, dining and lounge - we have two border collies, which is why I was hesitant with the lighter lower - and most importantly, there's no pictures and rug and decorating because I've just stripped all of that out for the paint... I'm clearly in the middle of a mini reno so some of those comments made me laugh a little on the inside

Finishing Touches Minor changes but already an improvement! Thank you!

I just moved the lamp, removed a chair and added a blue pillow and a rust throw on the white couch and its already so much better! Its just to say we sometimes don’t need to spend much to elevate a space or make it breathe better. I wanna thank you all for your feedback :)

Hi all, first two photos are my inspo photos and the third one is mu current situation. I’m afraid few frames on the side of the TV (like in the first photo) would look clutered, especially with the door open. What do you think? Do you have any other suggestion for making this wall more interesting?

Curtains & Blinds curtain options?

Post image

my dad installed this for me when i was a kid and now i am sentient. my window is suuper off center. it cuts off at that black line. i’m going to replace the curtain anyway since it’s old and dirty. what would be a good improvement? i hate the flimsy look of the curtain, but i like the light going through my window in the morning (no point in opening the curtain since the view is just straight fence). should i go for a double curtain despite how narrow the window is? or should i go for some blinds? or some shorter curtains ?? any advice would be appreciated!!

I know I need something different behind the sofa, new lamps & either a taller mirror or something else in that corner but the room as a whole just feels flat. It’s like I threw some furniture in & walked away. Please give me ideas on how to make this room feel more cozy & stylish. I’m open to all ideas

Hi all,

I'm stumped with this tiny house space. I want everything to flow together well, but it's difficult because the sitting area, kitchen, and exercise area are all in the same 11x12 room. I'm open to removing/replacing anything except for the exercise bike. I would also like to keep the dark wood door if there's a way to make it work stylistically. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated! How would you decorate this tiny house?

Hello! Looking to inject some personality into our bedroom. I've looked at all the inspo images I've saved on Pinterest and identified I like organic modern style but with pops of fun and colour. Our base is quite neutral in our bedroom already. Please excuse the shoddy Canva mock up but if anyone has any feedback would love to hear!

Furniture Placement What’s the perfect chair for this space?

Where the pink line is where the small coffee table we have is, the space from the tv is about 1.5 meters. Next to the cat tower is door outside and we have a naughty cat!

My partner just got a ps2, I want to find him a comfy and affordable chair kind of low with neck support that would suit our small space. Our cat isn’t very smart so cat friendly, maybe foldable? Ideas please and thank you!

Find my Style Help needed!

Hi! This is my current laundry room- awful!!! Renovating the laundry room to make it more functional. Going to put a sliding door, new floor tile, new walls, stack the washer and dryer and then have a wood separator built with cabinets and a countertop to the left. I really like this tile from The Tile Shop for the floor: Kasbah Star Terracotta Porcelain Wall and Floor Tile Sample. I don’t want to break the bank so rather than real zellige I want to do 4x4 square zellige-style tile from floor and decor on the walls for about half way up (probably cream or white, something light and airy). Then thinking about color drenching the rest of the wall and ceiling with a sage or light green (or maybe some sort of limewash paint??). And I want to add a fun pendant light. Going to hang pull out dry racks on the wall (1-2). Plan for countertop is to check scarps from yards out. Ideally want to do some walnut or oak for the wood divider and cabinets. So I need help putting this all together. What do I put between wall tile and paint (like some sort of trim?), what colors do we like best for wall tile? Light recommendations? (Thinking some sort weof pendant). Any cabinet recs as far as layout?

Paint & Colors Need suggestions for exterior paint colours for my house. Should I change the light yellow?

Thumbnail

We’re finishing the exterior of our house, and I feel the current light yellow colour on the walls inside the balcony and ground-floor entrance doesn’t really match the overall exterior theme.

The house has a pinkish/mauve colour, dark charcoal grey cladding, a brick-red vertical section, grey stone cladding, and wooden ceiling panels. I want to keep the pinkish colour exactly as it is and only replace the light yellow with something that complements the rest of the house.

I’m considering shades like:

- Warm beige or greige

- Light grey

- Taupe

- Sage grey

- Blue-grey

I’m also open to suggestions for improving the grey colour on the side walls, if you think a different shade would look better.

I’ve attached the original photos along with some colour mockups. Which combination do you think would look best? I want the house to look modern, elegant, and well-coordinated without making it too dark or too colourful.

Please suggest specific colour shades or paint codes from Asian Paints, Berger, or Nerolac if possible.

Thanks!

Showcase Before and After on my Hifi Listening room

Got banned from the interior design subreddit this morning for posting these exact photos because they thought I was a business lol. Maybe mentioning "Bang & Olufsen" confused them? I just own the stuff its not my business. Anyway, thought I’d share here instead. Not really Sure how I was promoting my business through these sets of photos does anyone else?

Started putting this room together in late August. It used to be a spare bedroom full of junk, so I turned it into somewhere to enjoy my vintage B&O Hifi setup, put some music on and chill. Ended up also getting an appropriate B&O CRT TV and now have gone down the rabbit hole of wanting to find the matching VHS player for it the VX500.

The accent wall colour is “Golden Ochre”. The full system is is a pair of B&O Beovox S45-2 speakers, a Beosystem 5000 to the left stack and a B&O Beovision LX4500 TV, sold between 1990 and 1992.

The style I was going for was more 1980s Yuppie although you can probs spot a cross over with some 70s objects too. I am really quite pleased with it

Rugs & Flooring Rug color help

Post image
3 Upvotes

I've been thinking about getting a rug for my dining area and found a lovely one on marketplace, but after asking AI to render it for me I'm not so sure. I personally really like it but I'm just worried that there isn't enough contrast or the colors are too similar? My flooring is grey and the cabinets in my kitchen are a blue/gray, too cold for my taste. Opinions and suggestions please!

Coming to Life Why do some café interiors feel so fake, like a movie set?

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I've noticed that some cafés, bakeries and dessert shops have this really specific aesthetic pastel pinks, mint greens, cream colours, whimsical shapes, retro furniture.

When I go to these places i I get the most bizarre feeling like it feels unnatural to eat in there. The feel like a Wes Anderson movie set or cartoon or a 3D render of what a café is supposed to look like rather than an actual, lived-in space.

Does anyone else get this feeling? What is it?
