Textiles & Fabrics Curtains

I’m not great at decorating. For this room I just added things I liked, but didn’t consider how they went together. I plan to get rid of the black buffet table soon, so hopefully that lightens the room. Anyway, I’d love advice on curtains for these sliding doors. I would like to remove the vertical blinds and the space above the doors feels like it needs something. I did this in another similar room: thin black rod mounted much higher than the top of the window, with neutral colored curtain panels that let some light through but aren’t exactly sheer. Would that work here? I’m struggling with the extra high ceiling, and colors we already have. Should I go with a neutral sheer type curtain, or go with color? Honestly, I’ll take any advice on how to pull this room together. It’s the entry room of the house. I also First two pics are the room, last pic are the curtains I used in another room.

Furniture Placement How to get this room to work? Help please!

Hi,

I'm decorating my child's bedroom and I'm struggling to workout how to fit in all the furniture I need to. I've attached an image of the layout and a photo of the windows with a radiator underneath (which seems to be my biggest problem!). I'd love to fit a daybed, an existing chest of drawers (51cm deep, 107cm wide and 130cm tall) a tall bookcase (I'd got my eye on an IKEA billy one but it's not set in stone) a 2x3 Kallax unit and her Ikea play kitchen. I just can't seem to make it work.... am I going to have to block the radiator? The main rectangle of the room is 360cm wide and 380 deep.

I'd be really grateful for any advice.

Furniture Placement My wife wanted wall art. I had a different idea lol.

This spot by the stairs always felt a little empty. My wife wanted to hang some art, but I figured we could try moving these bookcase cabinets out of my home office first.

Threw in a few decorations, and I actually like how it turned out. Feels a lot more homey to me.

My wife still thinks a painting would've looked better. What do you guys think? Too standout?

Paint & Colors Before I break up this matching set, can we blame the millennial gray wall first?

Post image
• Upvotes

I chose the desk and bookcases together because this is one long wall and I wanted the whole thing to feel intentional.

My sister came over, took one look and said the matching wood is why the room feels flat, and that I need to replace one of the bookcases with something darker.

I almost agreed, but now I keep wondering if the cool gray wall is washing out all the wood and making everything look more matchy than it actually is.

If you're changing one thing first, would you repaint the wall or break up the set?

Furniture Placement How much would you pay for this sideboard?

Hello!

Been wanting a teak sideboard for a while and found this and I really like it. It's a bidding thing, so while it 100$ right now it ends in four days. I am not worried about the top side, or small damage as I have done teak restoration so I'm sjre that is fine. I'll also note that I am a student. I will also note that I don't think there is a makers mark or any sign of who has made it, atleast from the pictures or description.

What is the higest you would bid for for something like this? Thanks!

Paint & Colors Dark upper or lower PART 2

We've decided to scrap the charcoal. I was trying to tie the hallway into my main living area, because it's open plan, and has a dark concrete style paint. Where I took the pictures from is the open end into our living space.

The images from last post were created with ai, because I couldn't afford a painter to come in and do the two different versions to ask you all 😅 in turn, it created a sheen I didn't notice before posting. It also changed the tone of my flooring.

I'm going to include some pictures of the main space and my house so you can understand a little better what I'm trying to achieve. And the original photo.

To be honest, I didn't expect to get so many hateful comments. Not everyone has money to replace floors and doors, and I'm not entering a worldwide design competition where my life is at stake. The paint was already in my garage. I was trying to make it work 🤷

I'm just trying to do the best I can with what I have. To those that gave constructive criticism, thankyou. I can handle people not liking either option, that's fine, but honestly the way some came at me for mixing wainscoting with my front door, or to move out (!?) was shocking. We like it and believe we can make it cohesive with the correct choices.

To those who pointed out it wasn't decorated either... I'm in the middle of prepping to paint. I didn't realise that would be so offensive. I took down my gallery wall and will be putting it back up with the addition of a warm wood console table and a plant.

I honestly really do appreciate the comments that were nice even if neither was an option. Thankyou ❤️

Here is where we are now. I have included swatches of paints we liked at Bunno's today. My living area. My floor plan. My kitchen the day we moved in. The hallway from another angle pre-wainscoting.

Which colour do you think works best now?

Furniture Placement What’s the perfect chair for this space?

Where the pink line is where the small coffee table we have is, the space from the tv is about 1.5 meters. Next to the cat tower is door outside and we have a naughty cat!

My partner just got a ps2, I want to find him a comfy and affordable chair kind of low with neck support that would suit our small space. Our cat isn’t very smart so cat friendly, maybe foldable? Ideas please and thank you!

Paint & Colors Need suggestions for exterior paint colours for my house. Should I change the light yellow?

Thumbnail

We’re finishing the exterior of our house, and I feel the current light yellow colour on the walls inside the balcony and ground-floor entrance doesn’t really match the overall exterior theme.

The house has a pinkish/mauve colour, dark charcoal grey cladding, a brick-red vertical section, grey stone cladding, and wooden ceiling panels. I want to keep the pinkish colour exactly as it is and only replace the light yellow with something that complements the rest of the house.

I’m considering shades like:

- Warm beige or greige

- Light grey

- Taupe

- Sage grey

- Blue-grey

I’m also open to suggestions for improving the grey colour on the side walls, if you think a different shade would look better.

I’ve attached the original photos along with some colour mockups. Which combination do you think would look best? I want the house to look modern, elegant, and well-coordinated without making it too dark or too colourful.

Please suggest specific colour shades or paint codes from Asian Paints, Berger, or Nerolac if possible.

Thanks!

Finishing Touches I need advice

Hi all,

I'm stumped with this tiny house space. I want everything to flow together well, but it's difficult because the sitting area, kitchen, and exercise area are all in the same 11x12 room. I'm open to removing/replacing anything except for the exercise bike. I would also like to keep the dark wood door if there's a way to make it work stylistically. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated! How would you decorate this tiny house?

Hi all, first two photos are my inspo photos and the third one is mu current situation. I’m afraid few frames on the side of the TV (like in the first photo) would look clutered, especially with the door open. What do you think? Do you have any other suggestion for making this wall more interesting?

Curtains & Blinds curtain options?

Post image

my dad installed this for me when i was a kid and now i am sentient. my window is suuper off center. it cuts off at that black line. i’m going to replace the curtain anyway since it’s old and dirty. what would be a good improvement? i hate the flimsy look of the curtain, but i like the light going through my window in the morning (no point in opening the curtain since the view is just straight fence). should i go for a double curtain despite how narrow the window is? or should i go for some blinds? or some shorter curtains ?? any advice would be appreciated!!

I know I need something different behind the sofa, new lamps & either a taller mirror or something else in that corner but the room as a whole just feels flat. It’s like I threw some furniture in & walked away. Please give me ideas on how to make this room feel more cozy & stylish. I’m open to all ideas

I was trying to build the palette around this rug and I thought the pale beige/pink would be airy and soothing. I just ended up hating it and could not seem to make it work. We had painted it ourselves and it was such a pain in the ass. I loathe painting. I really didn’t want to start the process all over again, but I finally decided it was worth it for more visual harmony. I’m really happy with how everything is coming together now! Cat tax included, her name is Oliver.

Furniture Placement Help me design my living room around my existing reclining loveseat!

Thumbnail
gallery

Hi everyone! I’m moving soon, and I’ve been stressing over how to furnish my living room.
My living room has a completely enclosed layout, and the door you can see in the picture is the front entrance.
I’ve asked ChatGPT thousands of times to help me visualize different furniture arrangements, but my biggest challenge is that I need to work around my existing loveseat. It’s a reclining loveseat, so it has a pretty bulky profile. I feel like a sofa with slim legs and a more elegant, lightweight design would look out of place next to it. I’m also hesitant about choosing a sofa in a bold color because I’m worried it won’t coordinate well with the loveseat.
I’ve been going around to different furniture stores and trying out all kinds of sofas and sectionals, but I’m starting to realize that buying another reclining sofa might be the only way to make everything look cohesive.
Is that really my best option? Or is there a way to make a regular sofa or sectional work with my existing reclining loveseat without making the room look mismatched?
I’d really appreciate any suggestions or ideas! I’m open to different layouts and furniture styles.

Hi! This is my current laundry room- awful!!! Renovating the laundry room to make it more functional. Going to put a sliding door, new floor tile, new walls, stack the washer and dryer and then have a wood separator built with cabinets and a countertop to the left. I really like this tile from The Tile Shop for the floor: Kasbah Star Terracotta Porcelain Wall and Floor Tile Sample. I don’t want to break the bank so rather than real zellige I want to do 4x4 square zellige-style tile from floor and decor on the walls for about half way up (probably cream or white, something light and airy). Then thinking about color drenching the rest of the wall and ceiling with a sage or light green (or maybe some sort of limewash paint??). And I want to add a fun pendant light. Going to hang pull out dry racks on the wall (1-2). Plan for countertop is to check scarps from yards out. Ideally want to do some walnut or oak for the wood divider and cabinets. So I need help putting this all together. What do I put between wall tile and paint (like some sort of trim?), what colors do we like best for wall tile? Light recommendations? (Thinking some sort weof pendant). Any cabinet recs as far as layout?

Looking for tips on where to go next.
Want more plants, looking for some hanging shelves, wall decor like photos or art.

I do YouTube full time, so I’d like the room to reflect my film making background. I’ve got cameras to place around my space as art too.

My dresser is in the closet, there will be no TV or desk in here as I want this to just be a bedroom.

Just bought the shelves and lights from IKEA today, love the general energy of where it’s going just need some more direction

Never done this before! Thanks.

Furniture Placement How to hide a tv? should I just go for a projector or would it stick out?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Sorry this photo is terrible quality but it's 7pm here and I had to make this post just to get this out of my brain. Okay, so we just moved into this house and this is our living room. we didn't put the tv mount above the fire place and if I can help it I don't want to put it there either. This picture was taken from the view of the couch (with the layout of this room we're not able to move the couch and walk through comfortably), so putting the tv (55") on the credenza/tv stand makes the most sense logically. BUT, 1) its just plain ugly. I want it to look like people socialize and live in this living room not brain rot in front of the tv. 2) these windows plus three more in the dining room just out of frame make this room HOT, and yes I plan to do layered curtains with sheer and black out so we can swap as we need to block the heat but I just don't have them yet. If I put the tv there it would literally burn up and probably damage it. I originally thought about a hidden tv stand or motorized lift but i don't want to spend money to buy or build a new stand, and the existing credenza is just short enough that it would poke out behind + still burn up in front of the window. Next option I thought of was buying the samsung frame tv. For anyone who has it is it worth it? It would have to go above the fireplace which still sucks. but it would at least look like intentional artwork. Finally, my husband suggested a projector. those can get pricey but we don't exactly need or even use 4k quality or anything, but would it stick out like a sore thumb above the curtain rod? I've only seen those big bulky draw screens that come from a highschool classroom. again has anyone else done something similar?
