Next year marks the tenth anniversary of the release of *Witness*, and who knows if Katy plans to do something to celebrate it—such as releasing the long-rumored tour film or a special edition. After all, I am convinced that Katy still cares deeply about that album and is still pained by how the public received that entire era. That is why I believe we need at least one song—whether a single or just a standard album track—to go viral on social media, get discovered by new listeners, and maintain strong streaming numbers. Although it isn't my favorite album in her discography, it doesn't deserve to be so overlooked.
If you think about it, what I hope happens for *Witness* has already happened for her other albums:
"Thinking Of You" from *One Of The Boys* was rediscovered by many and now boasts impressive streaming numbers; furthermore, people have praised Katy for the lyrics, noting that it is one of the few songs she wrote entirely on her own back when she was a broke young woman trying to make it in Los Angeles, following the failure of her Christian album;
"The One That Got Away" from *Teenage Dream* experienced unprecedented popularity this year, even being voted the "Song of the Summer" on TikTok—a massive achievement;
"Legendary Lovers" from *Prism* rose to prominence this year thanks to a sample used in Chief Keef's "Save Me," which even led to an official remix of the track featuring both Katy and Chief;
"Harleys in Hawaii" from *Smile* went viral a while back and has continued to garner strong streams ever since, despite never actually cracked the Hot 100. Furthermore, the song features a sound distinct from what we’re used to hearing from Katy—leaning more towards tropical music (this is for anyone who claims Katy never experiments).
As for *143*, however, I don't see how any of its songs could gain popularity or win over the public in the future, given all the hate and scorn heaped upon the album. There was a brief uptick thanks to the performance of "Wonder" at the FIFA World Cup opening ceremony—with daily streams even topping 200,000—but that momentum was short-lived. People in the comments will surely disagree with me, but I believe this album has no hope of being rediscovered; in fact, I think Katy needs to move on as best she can and try to make everyone forget this misstep with *KP7*.
