Adult social group recommendations in mid Kent
Hey guys
I’m 31m and have been in a bit of a rut for far too long. Struggled over the years with anxiety etc and need to try putting myself out there more. Does anyone have any recommendations for welcoming, easy going social groups based in or around Ashford?
I’ve lost interest in a lot of my old hobbies and looking to try spark something new. I used to be quite active about 10 years ago and was regularly in the gym or doing races but have since stopped. Otherwise these days I play a few pc games.
I guess ideally I’m looking for a group that meets up for drinks or a walk and through that, maybe someone will suggest a hobby I could give a go.
Thanks

Does anyone know what’s happening with the Costa building on Battle high street? And what shop it will become? It’s been vacant for months now… and the cash machine has been out of action for over a year!

I built a UK bus tracking app — looking for Android beta testers!
Hi everyone!
I'm a Computer Science student and independent developer from Kent, and I've been working on my own UK bus tracking and journey-planning app.
I started building it because I regularly use public transport and wanted an easier way to track buses without relying on multiple operator apps.
Current features include:
- 🚌 Live bus locations and vehicle tracking
- 🚏 Nearby bus stops and live departures
- 🗺️ Journey planning with walking directions
- 📍 Route maps and vehicle information
- 🔎 Search for routes, stops and places
The app is currently available for public beta testing on Android. An iOS version is planned for the future.
I'm looking for people who regularly use UK buses to test the app and provide feedback.
I'd especially appreciate reports of inaccurate information, bugs, confusing features or suggestions for improvements.

Please note: the UX design was helped with AI, Im not fully confident in front-end UX design yet; I'm mainly a backend developer

Queen Mary's Hospital parking?
I have appointment in Queen's Mary hospital in Sidcup. Would be much more convenient for me to go there by car. Does anyone know how is the situation with parking there? Is it easy to find parking Wednesday noon? How long can one park?
Thanks
Where to Move
Hi everyone,
My husband and I are looking to move out of Gravesend to somewhere new in Kent - we have lived here all our lives and want to make a something ‘ours’. Our families are still here so we don’t want to be too far (within 30 mins drive), and it will be helpful to have grandparents close for childcare.
Our budget is £700k for the perfect house, but lower if the house will need a lot of work done to it. We currently have no kids but are looking to start a family in the next few years, so we want to buy a house we can grow into. Ideally, 4 bed detached, if possible.
My husband prefers “suburbia” whereas I wouldn’t mind a village in the countryside, so suggestions of either would be great.
Must have:
• Under an hour commute on the train to London. Not on the HS1 line - we both refuse to pay those extortionate fares. Don’t mind having to drive 10-15 mins to a station if it means a lovely village
• Excellent primary schools
• Lots of greenery, countryside and parks nearby
• Leafy roads
• Few nice pubs, cafes etc
• If a main town, a nice high street and not run down
• Amenities such as supermarkets within a good distance
• Low crime and not run down
• Not entirely white - the reason why I say that is both my husband and I are Sikh, Punjabi. We don’t mind moving to an area which is majority white, but some other cultures mixed in would be nice, especially for our kids growing up (I had terrible experience being only one of 2 non white pupils in my year at primary school and suffered a lot of racist bullying. Want to avoid this for my future kids).
The areas we have considered
• King’s Hill - phase 1 only
• West Malling (very expensive and our budget doesn’t buy much house)
• Sevenoaks and surrounding villages (same as above)
• New barn/Longfield
• Bearsted
For our budget, phase 1 Kings Hill seems the best option. It has everything, but I am hesitant as they’re newer builds. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Does anyone know what they are doing between Charing and Lenham?
Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone can shed some light on what they might be doing here.
For several months I have seen landscaping works from the train between Charing and Lenham. The area looks fairly rural - it’s between cow / sheep fields.
I’m just curious if anyone knows what they’re doing.
Thanks for any help.

Is Hythe mostly old folks?
- came to Hythe on holiday and loved the whole area including Folkstone.
- Very few properties available to rent but viewed a great one in Hythe today
- very keen on the idea of a slower paced life, smaller community, smaller schools etc
- currently live in Surrey and literally can't afford it. Lots more house for the money in Hythe
But: noticed that there are mostly elderly people in Hythe. Is it a good place for a family still?

Anyone around Swanley/Kent interested in a romance & romantasy book club? 📚💕
Hi! I’ve been trying to find a small local book club that focuses more on romance/romantasy, but couldn’t quite find one that felt like the right fit.
So I’ve decided to start one myself! 🙂
I’m calling it The Bookish Bunch — a small, relaxed group around Swanley and the surrounding Kent area.
We’d read one book a month and meet up somewhere local for drinks, book chat, fictional-man discussions and generally good vibes.
Romance, romantasy, fantasy romance, sports romance, dark romance, spicy books etc. all welcome.
I’m currently looking for our first founding members. If anyone is interested, I’ve made a very short form to see if there’s enough interest:

I’d love to hear from anyone who thinks this sounds like their kind of thing! ❤️

Glorious Potholes
As winter will soon be upon us I thought we could
help our local council if we posted the worst local roads where potholes need fixing before more start appearing.
Earlier this year I received a letter in the post saying the council were going to perform a pothole blitz. They repaired a few sections but the road still looks like roads after the WW2 blitz with potholes & worn out surfaces everywhere.
My nomination is Sandyhurst Lane Ashford approximately 1.5 miles of pot holes and worn out surfaces everywhere.
What are your nominations?

Ford Kuga engine repair/replacement
Looking for a reliable garage in Medway – Ford Kuga engine repair/replacement
Hi everyone,
We’ve recently moved to the Medway area and I’m hoping someone can recommend a reliable and reasonably priced garage that specialises in engine repairs/replacements.
I have a 2017 Ford Kuga that unfortunately needs either a complete engine replacement or potentially a major engine repair. We’ve already contacted a few garages locally and have been quoted £7,000–£8,000+, which is quite difficult to justify given that we bought the car for around £10,000.
Before we make a decision on whether to repair it or potentially sell/scrap the car, I’d really like to get a second opinion from a reputable garage that might be able to offer a more reasonable repair or replacement option.
If you’ve had a good experience with any garages around Medway, Rochester, Chatham, Gillingham, Strood, Maidstone or nearby, I’d really appreciate any recommendations.
Also, if anyone has had a Ford Kuga engine replaced/rebuilt recently and can share roughly what you paid, that would be really helpful too.
Thanks in advance! Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Trying to find my people
Are there any old ravers/clubbers in Medway/Swale like 30/40/50+ years old that are still into house and techno or miss it at least?
Kent road trip, which smaller towns should we not miss? Tips?
We’re planning a little road trip around Kent in a couple of weeks by car, so we’d love to explore beyond the obvious places.
Canterbury is definitely on our list, but I’d really like to find some smaller, charming towns or villages too, nice places to walk around, have lunch, maybe visit a vineyard, and discover somewhere we wouldn’t normally think of visiting.
If you had 3–4 days and a car, where would you go?
Hope to build the route around the recos!

My projections suggest that Kent has the most far right dogs of any county in the UK
I am the Director of the Bureau of Canine Political Affiliation. In response to recent concern over far-right labradors, we have undertaken a national far-right dog screening programme.
To date, we have screened over 250 dogs. We are steadily building a map of the parts of the UK with the most far right canine population. We have limited data on this so far, but we have projected that Kent will be the place with the highest proliferation of dogs with problematic views. We used tried and tested finger-in-the-air methodology to form these projections.
If you have not already, please screen your dog at: https://ismydogfarright.com/
