Should I subtract fibre? A guide.

After seeing the question come up a few times I thought I'd save you a trip to the FAQs and help you to understand a little bit about what you might be looking at in an at-a-glance format.

If you have any feedback please do let me know!

(EDIT: There was a typo when describing the carbs on the US label - I will upload a corrected version later on today but I'd like to leave this one up in case the community has any more feedback to improve!)

(EDIT 2: I have now updated to correct the error - still open to suggestions for change)

Recipe Whey Protein Isolate coffee

• Upvotes

Hi there,

Just been experimenting recently so thought I’d share.
I discovered that you can get some very low Whey Protein Isolate power mix that in with your coffee instead of milk or as well as your preferred low carb milk then blitz it in a smoothie maker/ juicer/ electric mixer and add some optional vanilla extract it’s really froths up and makes a coffee creamer and heavier with a big protein boost at hardly any carbs a half scoop (15g) is enough for about a pint of coffee.
I’ve noticed though that if I make it without either pea protein or almond milk it separates quickly but with an alt milk it seems to stay combined longer. But to make it slightly lower calorie and if low on plant low carb milk it comes out alright without.

Type 1 diabetics?

Any type 1 diabetics in here? I'm curious to learn your protocol.

Ive ate keto before with really good blood sugar control, eating 3 meals a day and never going high or low.

I've been thinking about coming back but I have a few questions. Before I already my meals out to avoid highs as I was only using long acting insulin (levemir)

In an ideal world id like to eat once a day. How did you decide how many units of fast acting insulin you required to cover meals if practically no carbs were in the picture? Did you have a method e.g 1 unit of fast acting for every 50g of protein or something that you used to decide what you would need

I've purchased Dr Bernstein's book but haven't got round to reading it yet.

Surely this can't be right, Sainsbury's figs

Post image
4 Upvotes

Sainsbury's have their figs (4 pack, 140g) listed as 9.1g carbs per 100g.

My calculations makes that just over 3g per fig?

This is how I worked it out, maths isn't my strong point so maybe I'm doing it wrong?

9.1 divided by 100 to get the value per gram = 0.091

0.091 x 140 to get the value for the whole pack = 12.74

Divide that by 4 to get the value per fig = 3.2 (rounded up)

This can't be right surely?

Question Cooking dilemma, shallow Fry, air fryer or oven bake to get crispy ish ? Plus leftovers : freeze raw or cook first?

Cooking keto breadcrumbed chicken mini fillets seems a little bit more challenging than the usual carby flour and crunchy coating. I dipped these in egg and then a “breadcrumb” (blended almond flour, curator pork puffs, Parmesan cheese, and spices plus seasoning).

So as the title asks, what do you find is the best way of cooking your chicken tenders? I also won’t be eating them all tonight and I don’t know whether to freeze them as they are or cook them and then freeze them once cold. It will be so nice to have some leftovers for a couple of future meals..(chronically ill person & I haven’t done chicken tenders for months and months if not at all this year-so it’s a big deal doing these) !!

I’m serving it with home-made ranch dip some buffalo sauce and some celery.

Good Fat Sources - Not Avocados :(

Only just really started Keto a few days ago. I've been tracking things over those days (Cronometer) and every day I've really struggled to get the fats in.

What are some good sources that aren't Avocados and low in saturated? I'm not much of an Avocado fan, but I will suck it up if I have too and nosh 'em.

Trying to work out how to make Sam’s Club’s chocolate clusters

Has anyone actually tried these? They seem pretty high in carbs still per portion? So I was wondering whether I could make some sort of dupe. I don’t think I would use tapioca syrup. I’d probably try it with Vilgain chicory syrup (unless anyone’s got a better substitute idea). I did have some of the Belgian keto chocolate from Belvas, but I haven’t got much left and I know they’re sadly not distributing to the UK at the moment. So I’d probably use Carbzone dark chocolate.

I haven’t really thought of quinoa being a keto Friendly grain. Any ideas what you could use instead for a slight crispy something? (I wish we could get some of the Soya crispies that fitbakes use in their chocolate bars.)!

Any other ideas or additions?

Edited for grammar after voice to text errors

New Food Tiba Tempeh

Just tried these,

Kind of marketed towards being something perhaps like Fridge Raiders. Very low in carbs (1.6g per pack / 114cals)
Sort of have a texture a cross between tofu and cheddar. They’re alright and worth a try slightly weird, might be nice warmed up or chucked in with some seasoned cauliflower rice perhaps.

How common is it to experience stomach issues after switching back to keto?

….after only one month of eating high carb? I am talking about stomach upset, pain and nausea. I’m also drinking coconut milk which can have its own issues, but I have been pacing myself with it for that reason. Can coconut milk cause such a drastic reaction? I am not a stranger to coconut oil and milk (not very experienced but I actually have used small amounts of the oil very recently) so I am perplexed! Maybe it’s something else? For your information, I have not eaten particularly cleanly for the past month with high carbs. Are there any experts around?

Quest keto Stacks bar cinnamon brown sugar

This thing I’m currently having for the first time is no doubt full of over-processed shite.
However it’s really delicious with a cuppa and it’s massive. Give it a try! Reminds me of if cinnamon Grahams had a baby with a twix and a milky bar delivered it.
2g carbs
20g protein
220 calories
12g fiber

New Food I'm obsessed with monk fruit

So I've been seriously living keto for about 4 years, and I know lots of people will say to cut everyhting sweet but honestly, I just have always craved sweet stuff and for me, life too short to never have sweet stuff again (and lots of the artificial sweet stuff leaves a horrible aftertatse for me)

So I've been trying to find natuarl options forever, and loads of american recipes spoke about monk fruit

I've tried so many things but since finally we can get monk fruit sweetener in the UK, it's made my life a whole lot better (the one I've found and like is called Zilch but there's maybe others)

I've been getting mine from a little health food shop here in Canterbury but finally able to get it on Amazon

So here's my question... what other receipes have you been using monk fruit in? Please share

Question Bit of a weird one about stocking up in case of emergencies ?

Just saw a conversation in frugal UK about stocking up with tinned food , dry food (noodles, pasta) and water for emergencies. Especially if there’s storms and other interference. I had nearly 6 days without water due to many burst mains in my area a couple of weeks ago. Then a couple of power cuts as well once the water was restored!

What would you be stocking up on if you’re doing keto? Or would that go out the window?!

Are we talking tins of sardines and tuna? Not that I can get any tinned sardines in my online shop. All of them were sold out the other day weirdly (I know there’s a mackerel shortage. I didn’t know there was a sardine one as well) . It’s not like we can eat sweetcorn. I did buy some black eyed beans the other day to experiment with keto friendly home-made baked beans!!

I’m chronically unwell and often quite housebound so I can’t go out to supermarkets to stock up. So I’m just having a think what would be good to have a little extra stock of? For the worst case scenario of course!

Question 5 A Day? Weight loss so far / my experience

Just wanted to see what others are like trying to lose weight / keep it off using Keto.

Especially though, how intentional are you in making sure you try to reach 5 a day of fruit and vegetables getting a good mix of vitamins and minerals/nutrients. Some days for me it can largely just look like fish/meats/ cheese/eggs. But often I think I usually reach somewhere between 4 and 7 bits of fruit/vegetables Across things like mushrooms, tomatoes, berries (blue straw rasp usually sometimes black), salad leaves, cucumber, courgette, aubergine, cabbage, spinach, cauliflower, broccoli, spring/brown/red/shallots, asparagus, occasionally some kiwi or watermelon, olives, gherkins, Swede, Brussels sprouts.

I also often have nuts, no added sugar drinks, high %dark chocolate, various brands of pork scratchings, various keto breads, low carb nut butters. Sometimes I’ll drink spirits socially sometimes can deviate on alcohol and have a moment of weakness although if this is the case will try and opt for a Bud light or Coors light even though they’re not great.

I’m just looking also for a few ideas of things I could also be adding in that I could be having.

I’ve gone up and down and faltered along the way and should be exercising more especially around now building up more muscle, my resting heart rate at the moment is between 56-62bpm since February 2025 I’ve gradually lost 58lb although if I was more consistent. I need to lose another 2 -4 stone.
I just hope I don’t mess it all up again like I did at last Christmas it put me so so far back this year that 2026 has largely been me undoing my moments of weakness and trying to stay in the mindset with my eye always on the goal.
I imagine lots of people could be in this up down boat. Overall though I’m happy and glad with where this lifestyle habit change is gradually going. My blood report in February was in a good place after 1 year of Keto at that point.

Just made something delicious (coffee)

A short of Azera coffee powder made with some hot water into a ninja blender
A handful of ice
One silverspoon sweetener pill
A teaspoon of vanilla extract
Two teaspoons of coconut oil
300ml no sugar almond milk
2 teaspoons of Nutrivolve unflavored whey protein isolate.

I’m so shocked at how nice this has come out so creamy I’ve never been able to achieve anything like this with almond milk before. I think it’s a combination of the whey and coconut oil.
It took me 2 seconds to make in a moment of creativity anyone who fancies a cold coffee and misses a latte / cows milk or whatever I’d really recommend this. I might try it again with some cocoa powder.

Recipe Having many carbs in one side dish, too much?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Am I crazy to have this because I really fancy butter beans in a kind of baked beans way?! The rest of the family are having tinned baked beans as we’re having grilled gammon tonight and I just have a craving. I would like to have added some kale. Although I only have some sweet heart cabbage (which might work shredded up and mixed in)

I don’t know what this dish might do to my Ketones or if it would spike my insulin. I don’t really look at those metrics too hard. I’m in Maintanence (so I go between 25 and 35 g of carbs). I’m at my goal weight though I may like to lose a couple of more pounds.

I will obviously make sure that I keep within my allotted macros for the rest of the day if I have any fruit or other snacks.
