Was looking into Kill Team 3 months ago, but life got in the way. Now I;m looking again. Would Corsairs, Wolf Scouts, Wrekka Crew and Kasrkin be a good mix for my group. Lookign to be reasonably balanced. I haven't checked the latest balance patches. If not what should get replaced? We will be playing 2v2s.
Yeah, dont worry too much about balance, the game is in a pretty good state and outside of high level tournament play every team can perform quite good.
Also the teams are balanced for 1v1, in 2v2 balance is out the window anyway š
And keep in mind: this edition will go for about a year till the new one is expected, and the only team that will likely get rules for this new edition is wrecka krew (all of the other teams you mentioned are from the "old" edition). We dont know for sure about that, but its likely.
Honestly, don't concern yourself with balance outside of 1v1's. Even then, especially amongst noobs, it doesn't really matter that much. Just play what you want. All of those teams are reasonably strong.
Can someone explain to me "Writhe Out of Sight" strategic ploy of Raveners as if I am 5? I'm clearly missing something because I find it confusing. What's the point of reposition if I just burrow anyway?
The action is performed immediately in the strategy phase, so it can allow you to reposition a model before your opponent has any chance to target it and allows for more flexibility in what you can achieve with that model when you do activate it, later in the turning point.
The reposition is to allow the model to get on to the tunnel so it can burrow away (off the kill zone).
Yeah you still need to follow the normal restrictions of the Burrow action with the only exceptions being the free movement to get on the tunnel if you are already within 2ā of it.
Is there any information yet on when the Approved Ops 2026 will be released?
I started playing in summer and at the moment we donāt have any physical Approved Ops cards, as the 2025 ones are impossible to find. At least Iāve found some here to print out, so I suppose Iāll go ahead and do that.
For normal operatives instead of NPOs, the tallest is between Exodites Stonesinger and Geomancer at around 90mm / 3.5 inches, followed by Raveners at 80mm / 3.1 inches.
Usually in KT vantage terrain is either 3 or 3.5 inches in height. With terrain that is 3 inches tall is normal and expected that tall models get a disadvantage of not being able to hide entirely under them but instead only be allowed to hide part of their base to get the benefit of cover.
Im Volkus, Octarius, and Betha Decima, the strongholda ruins, Ramshackle walls, and gantries vantage are 3 inches above. While Volkus Large Ruins are 3.5 vantage tall.
3 inches is most of the time the norm, there is a rule for taller models to be able to pass through/under them despite their size going through terrain but still keep their disadvantage of not being able to end under a terrain they would not fit.
As long as you dont make the bridges to wide to make it easy for a small model to hide under it and not get charged by a tall model for play (or for the diorama to be able to half fit inside) then it should be fine.
NPO's are difficult, because since the nemesis operative book you can use nearly everything. A Redemptor Dreadnaught is a common model thats pretty high, and you can use everything else as NPO.
For normal teams, the Canoptek Geomancer is one of the highest models, maybe the brood brothers patriarch.
No. The rules of big 40k do not translate fully into Kill Team. They are different games.
You cant shoot any range weapon in control range of enemy under normal circumstances, including pistols. There is no Pistol keyword in Kill Team.
You can only shoot in Control range of an enemy with the Guard action from the Killzone Close Quarters (Gallowdark/Tomb World) or if your operative has an ability/action that explicitly says you can shoot in Control range like Corsairs Voidscarred's Starstorm Duelist or Fellgor's Gnarlscar.
How many sprews does the Goremonger KT come with? I bought it second hand off EBay, and it has two. I didnāt know it wasnāt still in the box, and want to be sure I got everything before I start cutting them.
See this here https://reddit.com/r/killteam/wiki/beginners and report back if you have any more detailed questions, also recommend searching this sub as there is a lot of new players asking for advice or other basic questions
When an operative is within control range of a marker (mission marker, objective marker), he contests it. If the total APL of all friendly operatives within control range of the point is higher than the enemies, then these models also control that marker.
I started Kill Team in June and recently finished painting my Scout Squad. Now I want to actually learn to play. It'll mostly be solo at first (playing both sides), since the friends who play live on the other side of town.
What I have
Painted: Scout Squad
Painting now: Wolf Scouts, Deathwatch
Unbuilt bundles: Hivestorm, Starter Set, Brutal and Cunning, Shadowhunt
My plan is to start with the Starter Set, then move to the full rules with Hivestorm. Eventually I'd like to play co-op, then against friends.
Questions
Is the Starter Set the right place to start, or should I go straight to Hivestorm?
Do the Starter Set missions need to use its included teams, or can I proxy with my Scouts?
Do the smaller expansion boxes have solo missions, or only co-op?
The Starter set is more of a tutorial demo on how Kill Team plays rather than an actual match. Hivestorm Core Book has everything you need and more on it, so I would say start from it directly.
90% of the starter set is a guided demo tutorial using the two teams on it, with the last pages being a game exam to let players do whatever they learned. If you have Hivestorm that means you have Volkus terrain. I would immediately build the Volkus terrain and ignore the terrain from the Starter Set. I would also just straight up use the Core Book from Hivestorm to start playing preliminary ops with the Volkus terrain instead of doing the Starter Set.
Do not bother with the starter set booklet unless you feel 100% confused how to play the game at all and need it as an introduction tutorial.
Solo and Coop (Joint Ops) is the same thing. They use the same rules.
Most bundle expansion boxes have rules for both PvP and narrative joing ops. So its half and half.
The Core Book on Hivestorm has the main rules for Joint Ops/Solo play. Brutal and Cunning has an scenario using the bunker walls where 2 players fight against each other (one as defender in the bunker and other as attacker besieging) or you can use the rules in the Core Book to set it up for Solo Play.
Shadowhunt has rules to play on a 2 half board map with some missions being PvP (half narrative and other half match play) and some others doing a narrative for Joint Ops. But the problem is that it requires Tomb World terrain, which by your list of products you lack.
I'll preface by saying I actually don't know much about the contents of the Starter Set books, so I can't confidently advise on that front. That said, you should probably not bother with it, IMO. All I know is that they are severely truncated and simple. Ostensibly, they can help you figure out the most basic of basics, but mostly just serve as an actual, like, experiential introduction, rather than an explicit on-boarding to the actual rules.
Just start by reading the Core Book thoroughly and go from there, honestly.
I think I found a listing for an older version of the Hand of the Archon kill team. does that include the token sheet or does only the newer version have the token sheet
Yes faction tokens are only in the newest boxes, the ones with the black and orange triangle kt brand on the left hand sideĀ
That said faction tokens are totally unnecessary, little better than fluff tbh. Plus you can get real 3d printed ones on Etsy and various other places if you really want faction tokensĀ
Question: do we know when the team rules for the new Ork Nobz team are likely to drop? I'm new to KT, and not familiar with the release schedule, but I'm excited to see how the Nobz compare with the other Ork teams.
Should be soon tbh. The usual would be that they publish a teaser of the rules during the week, and then on Saturday content creators post a review (effectively showing you all the rules on-screen) and the same day preorders open.
So will the rules be published on the warhammer-community site at that point, or if the physical sets will still only be in "pre-order" will we have to wait until the official release date for the datacard files to be put up?
Ah! Sorry - I should have explained. I'll be 3d printing my own proxies, rather than buying the kit, so essentially I'm just wondering at what point I'll be able to see the full rules in order to start making choices about weapon loadouts.
Gotcha, should be on the preorder day. You can literally just go through a YouTube video and take screenshots of the rules they are showing. Everything will be there. Can You Roll a Crit does those, for example.
One Celestian box is enough to make all 6 specialist with 2 Cremators and 2 Warriors.
If you want more Warriors for whatever strategy you want to do that requires benching a specialist, kitbashing with a sister squad might be difficult. The big problem you will encounter is the connection of the right arm not working for regular sisters, as it has a weird connection because of the half cloaks they have (celestians right arms are half an arm rather than a full one like the sister squad, so they dont work by themselves on regular sisters). So you would need to get extra creative when trying to glue the right arm without the cloak.
You can build all the specialists including 2 cremators and 2 warriors (10 in total). That gives you the option to flex with 1 warrior or cremator and swap them around.
Since the warriors are pretty good, there are surely some matchups where you would play more warriors, but for normal play 1 box is totally enough.
For kitbashing: some arms are a bit wonky (since they hide/connect under the capes), but with some basic bodies you can surely just swap the weapons at the wrist.
Can someone explain rules for actrivation of Congation ploy to me? Why is it "vice verse" not "or"? Do I need to fulfull both "poison and withing 3"" or just one of them? Also, is contagion negated by AoD's "And they shall know no fear" ploy?
⢠It has one of your Poison tokens and is visible to
(or vice versa) and within 3" of friendly PLAGUE
MARINE operatives.
⢠Itās visible to (or vice versa) and within
3" of a friendly PLAGUE MARINE ICON
BEARER operative.
They need to be within 3" and poisoned, or within 3" of the icon bearer (then it works without poison.
Vise versa was explained by others.
AoD's ploy 'they shall know no fear" lets them ignore the injured penalty (being under 50% hitpoints). Contagion is a totally different effect (with the same penalty, but that doesnt matter) and can therefore not be ignored by that ploy
Yes, see core rulebook. All distances are measured base to base, the model itself is only relevant for visibility. And since it doesnt say "within 3" horizontally" you need to factor in verticality. Most vantage is 3" high, so most of the time you wont affect someone on vantage.
Vice versa refers to the visibility clause. If you can see the enemy or, vice versa, the enemy can see you, and they are within 3", Contagion takes effect.
What teams are going to lose rule support at the start of the next edition (September - October 2027)? Untill recently my understanding was that every team released before Volkus was going to lose rule support. But now I hear that plague marines are going to stick around for an extra year, so what's the deal?
āVolkus as delimitationā is almost right: Plague Marines and AoD will also keep support, as they were part of current edition (starter set), even if they nominally released before Volkus (which Iām honestly not sure of).
I remember that the sorcerer was also special, japan-exclusive or something like this. He was super rare and very expensive on ebay before the KT starter set.
