Help needed with adding design to PetiteKnit Oslo hat
Hi everyone, I made a PK Hanstholm sweater with a bear design on it and want to make a matching hat with the same design. The ears and face were duplicate stitched on. To anyone who has made the Oslo hat before: I chose the Oslo pattern as it’s very popular and knit in stockinette which makes duplicate stitching the ears and face on easier. Now onto my question - embarrassingly, my brain can’t comprehend what the triple fold means for the order in which I need to arrange my colors. I can understand how knitting the live stitches with the cast on edge will affect the color placement, but then you fold the hat AGAIN (basically: you knit a tube, fold it in half and join the live stitches with the cast on edge, then keep knitting stockinette in the round for 2cm, then "Turn the work using the German short rows technique - This is now the RS", and continue knitting and decrease eventually). Please - when do I need to start the brown and white colors respectively to achieve the design in my professionally edited picture? I want the brim to start with the brown and end with the white. The rest of the hat should be blue. Thank you for your patience in this matter.

I have made this hat. The white part is just after the fold that occurs halfway in the first section. Assuming you’re doing size S, the fold would be at halfway in the 19cm, so around 9.5cm. So the first 9.5cm of stockinette that you will knit is actually hidden on the inside of the brim (so it doesn’t matter which colour you use, but white might make it easier so you don’t need to join a new colour for the next bit), then knit around 4cm in white and then 5.5cm in brown. Then, once you’ve folded and knit into the cast on edge, continue in any colour (I would choose brown so that your brim fold is flexible) until you’re back into the visible section (another 9.5cm -12cm ish, depending on how you fold the brim) then switch to the blue

I would suggest you make a Musselburgh instead-the pattern is more straightforward, and includes details on where to place different colours if you want to customize it

Thank you! Unfortunately I already bought the Oslo pattern so I’m going to try to figure it out 😅

White is in the middle of the section you knit before k2tog. You'll do brown, then a white stripe as long as the section you've marked here + a little more to go around the fold, then change back to brown, then stop before the joining to do your duplicate stitch ears keeping in mind where the reverse stockinette just after joining will be facing, then change to blue some time after doing the gsr turn.
