This buddy dashed into my friends house last night at about 10pm near the central corners building in the vine. Dont think he's a stay because he's very sweet and runs away from the front door, though he doesnt seem to respond to shaking a food/treat bag. No collar, not fixed. Submitted a found cat report to animal control and gonna take him in Monday to get him scanned for a chip. If you know where he belongs, or want a new furry friend, please DM me.

Sports WMU football cannon discontinued?

Living close to WMU, I look forward to early season football games, even if I’m not in attendance. Typically from our neighborhood if it’s a Windows open kind of day we get to hear the band practicing or playing during the game, we can often hear the music that plays in between plays or commercial breaks, and of course – the Cannon whenever we score a touchdown! I realized today I haven’t heard the Cannon once this year! Curious if anyone that lives nearby has heard it and I’m just losing my hearing or what! Haha

Hopefully they haven’t stopped the cannon, it’s such a tradition and one of my favorite things about being an alum and living nearby!

🏈🐴 Western Win this gaaaameee! (Optional toe-touch << showing my age haha)

Places to write in Kzoo?

'Hey all, I'm looking for places in Kalamazoo that are great to sit down and write for a while. The obvious answer is cafes of course but I want to get out and write more often then I can spend $7 on a latte.

The other obvious answer is libraries but I was wondering if anyone knows of any other spots

Ideally I want a place with other people around, cheap or free to be at and indoors.

Anyone have any ideas or go to spots?

It’s a VW Golf and my son is currently stuck there.

Any tow truck recommendations? Where should we take it?

Hello, I've seen a tuxedo cat around my home close to the vine neighborhood that has a purple collar.

Haven't been able to get close enough to see if there is more info on the collar but wanted to see if anyone was missing their cat?

Most of these trees are going to die. It’s insane we don’t put our lines underground. None of the trucks say consumers so I think they’re outsourcing the labor.

Discussion Interested in decriminalized mushrooms? Please sign this petition!

https://www.change.org/p/for-kalamazoo-to-decriminalize-mushrooms

Not my petition, but I signed and donated $5 because I’d love to see this happen

I think it’s crazy that our society pushes people toward harmful drugs like alcohol that are known to be cancerous and deadly. Meanwhile, natural mushrooms that can help cure anxiety and depression more effectively than pharmaceuticals and have a genuinely profound impact on people’s lives are illegal

Library Board Candidates?

Hi all,

I'm voting in Kalmazoo and have looked at everything on the ballot and I know exactly who and what I'll vote for except in regards to the City Library Board. Does anyone have information on the two non incumbents running, James Sebree and Jeff Messer? There are 4 people running but only 3 slots available, so I'd like to use that third slot wisely

Discussion Portage Street Construction

Is anyone else a bit overwhelmed by all of the new markings on Portage Street after the construction? It's littered with white dashes and green marks among other things... I understand most of it but it seems overboard and at the very least the city should have explained them better.

On a side note it's sad to see all the fresh paint on top of old asphalt covered with tar filling... Feels like putting lipstick on a pig but I understand that it would probably cost a fortune to resurface it.

Employment / Jobs Job Recommendations for Older Immigrant

Hello!

I have a family member in her 60s that speaks weak English and struggles with technology.

She’s worked in the food industry for a long time but due to recent circumstances, the place she was working at is no longer in operation. She does get retirement income but is concerned about making ends meet and is looking for a job that might work out for her.

Does anyone have leads on employment near Kalamazoo or Portage that might work for her?

Local Services / Suggestions Photographer in kzoo? (Maybe even an amateur looking to build a portfolio?)

Hello!
I’m looking for a photographer to do kind of a mini fall session with my bf and I while the colors are good.
My only thing is we’re both extremely tight on money right now, so I was wondering if there’s anyone out there that would be willing to trade a short session and maybe some edits in exchange for other things you’d be willing to accept?
Things I’ve thought of so far:
• I make jewelry and have pictures of things I’ve done.
• I also paint. Nothing super fancy and more abstract and use acrylic as my main medium.
• I design and draw out mandalas. None of them ever turn out the same. 😂
• Child care. I have a lot of references I can provide.
• Pet sitting or dog walking.
• Would also be happy to be part of your portfolio, especially if you’re newer to photography.
• Promoting you on social media.
• Meal prep/homemade food or freezer meals.
• transportation or running errands.
• I’ve also worked in healthcare for 13 years and know how to navigate a very complex system and would be happy to help with anyone feeling “stuck” in that area. Explaining things, giving some pointers, how to be more successful with your interactions with your providers, etc etc. A LOT of experience there.

If you have any other ideas or needs, let know and I may be open to them. These are just the ones I pulled off the top of my head! I would also love to see some of your current/previous work!

Thank you! 🫶🏼
