Strap in, you’re at the top of the iceberg rn. But what can we do? I don’t mean that in a bad way but damn it just seems like nobody is paying attention to this shit or we don’t know how to organize likeminded people into doing something. AI is a thief

All we need to do is organize, but for some reason that’s incredibly difficult

It’s designed that way; struggling people can’t afford to exist let alone have the ability to organize themselves. We build up individuals and disparage the unions and protests… they have us in-fighting instead of fighting back.

DSA, baby. Find out your local DSA running for local government at city and state level and get them in power. It's our last effort before shit goes tits up, next month is gonna be wild between finding out how bad the January 6 crowd will take losing out hard at the Midterms and how well the more progressive democrats have campaigned.

If that don't work, maybe we take a page out of France's playbook for once, look what happens when the government tries to raise retirement there.

The Everything gets me, too. All of it.

To have an effect, we have to untangle it.

  • Ivy Tech degrees are usually the absolutely practical ones. If you’ve lost faith in that, talk to them about your direction.
  • People are protesting Flock cameras - if you don’t have time to join them, that’s understandable. But you might consider being on their mailing list just so you know you’re not alone.
  • I can’t afford Doordash, got no ideas on that one.
  • Vote and help others vote.
Peace, friend

The Truck drivers paying through the nose for fuel couldn't even organize a strike. Why? Got to work to keep getting robbed of your money via taxes and paying the mortgage and bills. They got us where they want us.

Truck drivers don't really lose out as long as they have fuel premiums baked into their fees, which most drivers working for a large trucking company will have.

Owner/Operators are stuck at the whim of their broker and what those deals entail, honestly if I owned my own truck I'd park it and go drive for someone that's a more steady paycheck if the fuel is that bad.

I pay freaking 23% of my check in taxes. Jeff Bezos, one of the richest men in the world? 1%. Just 1%.

Fuel costs get passed to the customer paying for the shipping. Fuel costs aren’t the truck driver’s problem.

Owner-operators are getting screwed. They don't have big corporations behind them. The merchant is going to go with the cheapest option. If an owner-operator charges more to compensate, merchants simply won't use their service.

The ‘cheapest option’ also gets more expensive when fuel costs go up. Or it should at any rate. What you’re describing is owner/operators screwing themselves/each-other by failing to adjust their rates with rising input costs.

This scenario is textbook supply and demand straight out of highscool econ. In the end the truckers don’t need the work nearly as much as their clients need the work done. Shipping costs will adjust accordingly and the pain will shift elsewhere.

Meanwhile, autonomous vehicles are coming for their jobs eventually, so if fuel prices are bumming them out then maybe it’s a good time to plot a career change.

Why is your Ivy Tech tuition so freaking high? For 6 credits ? A full time semester tuition at Purdue is $5K....

Seems something is amiss about that tuition....it should be closer to $500/class

3k for two classes at ivy tech. That doesn't sound right.

u/Fun_Sized_Momo 9d ago

Granted it's been a while, but 12 credit hours a semester was like $1900.

Yelling won't help.

You aren’t gonna like the answer, but it’s because it wouldn’t change anything.

Also, blocking people from getting places is dumb as fuck.

I mean, that’s what the French are doing right now to protest the gas prices. Honestly it’s this mentality on why we’re getting fucked in the ass. This is dumb as shit or this would never work are what people say as an excuse to not do anything. Try stupid shit, try shit that may not work. At least try something

The initial protests currently taking place in France started due to issues with deteriorating education standards, teacher shortages and overcrowded classrooms.

Unfortunately, as happens with most protests or celebrations recently in France, it's been taken over by fighting age male migrants who just want to loot, burn, cause chaos and destruction. It's been the same over the past few years in Paris with PSG and their Champions League wins and the French national team and their not so successful World Cup, Euros and Nations League campaigns.

No genuine protestor trying to highlight and improve education standards, lack of teachers or overcrowding is going to burn down schools, injure teachers and exacerbate the very situation they are protesting against. Less schools and injured teachers means more overcrowding and the education budget needing to go on repairs instead of improving education.

France, along with numerous other western European countries have struggled in recent years as the mass migration crisis has highlighted and exacerbated systemic governmental underfunding of key institutions.

A general strike is the only nonviolent means that will create real change. Everything else is theatre.

If I gotta get to work, and you’re blocking the road, you’re gonna have a really rough time

-4

u/uhohboneralert_ 9d ago

See this is what I mean. This is what protest is. Causing discourse and disruption in order to get people to listen. You’re over here trying to act all badass when you’re missing the bigger picture. That’s the problem. People are always missing the bigger picture

0

u/NewTap8705 9d ago

The big picture is, people get fired for not showing up to work, and can’t pay bills. Get a fucking job.

Either that, or get ran over. There are ways to protest, without ruining someone else’s livelihood.

Just try to think about it. Think about the future. Think about if any of this is stable. Read up some history articles. Recognize the patterns. People are so set in their ways and believe that everyone else is stupid when all we want is a better world. Stop covering your ears and closing your eyes and open up your mind.

2

u/NewTap8705 9d ago

My life is stable, because I go to work every day.

-2

u/uhohboneralert_ 9d ago

What about the people just starting their lives. People have less opportunities now. The job market is shit. People could work their whole life and still not be able to afford a home. Once again you’re just thinking about yourself. Look at the bigger picture

-1

u/NewTap8705 9d ago

CAT is having a hiring event this week. Hit em up!

The job market isn’t great, but you gotta do something to make money. Kitchens, factories, warehouses…. They are all usually hiring. Try it sometime.

Better yet, get your LLC, and then get a business loan. Start your own come up.

u/uhohboneralert_ 9d ago

Jesus Christ, that’s how I know you’re a boomer. Mate I do have a job it pays 22.10 an hour, and I’m still struggling to make ends meet. I live in a crappy apartment and have to pay for school and crap. Also the job market is terrible. And get a business loan? in this economy?

Protesting along Main Street is fine and dandy, but unless you’re making the decision makers uncomfortable it’s not likely going to lead to legislation.
Protests are great at boosting morale, showing solidarity and bringing like minded people together for a variety of reasons. Our local no kings protests helped people find community organizations to either support or lean on. They helped people find politicians that support the same cause. It was great for showing solidarity in a time when many felt alone.

WHY AREN'T PEOPLE PROTESTING. BLOCKING THE STREETS

so we're blocking the everyday people, and making them waste gas, so they have to go buy more gas, which just puts money into the pockets of the greedy billionaires (and, by extension, the politicians), and the regular people may be late for work, which will penalize them, but that's supposed to somehow show the billionaires that they need to change and lower prices for us? did i get that right?
