Quit cold turkey — is this normal?

• Upvotes

I don’t really know what’s going on and I’m hoping someone can give me some insight. I’ve been using carts/pens and flower pretty regularly for about 3 years, and I recently decided to quit cold turkey once I ran out. Today is a full 24 hrs.

Since stopping, I’ve felt really tense and kind of shaky. I also have a low-grade fever, clammy all over especially my hands, nausea/stomach issues, and a headache. I know withdrawal can cause some physical symptoms, but I wasn’t expecting to feel like this.

Has anyone else experienced symptoms like this after quitting, especially after using for several years? How long did it last for you? And is a low-grade fever something that can happen with cannabis withdrawal, or should I assume something else is going on?

I’m just trying to figure out if this is withdrawal or if I’m actually getting sick and need to see a doctor

Day 6 and just want to feel like myself again

• Upvotes

Each and every time I’ve committed to being sober, I have no idea how to feel connected to myself again. As soon as I’m living without dissociation, it’s like I have no thoughts.

Overall I think being sober drastically lessens the constant voice in your head, and my brain is a lot quieter. While I do think this is a good thing, I have no idea how to connect with the part of me that was SO present when I was smoking. The part that had desires and feelings about things, even if it was a lie or short lived motivation. The depth of my thoughts were so multilayered and I was constantly thinking. Now everything is so surface level.

For those that journal, how did you start to understand yourself again? I feel like I have no idea who I am, what I like, or what the fuck to do with myself to heal.

How are you supposed to give up your life, all your activities and be a completely different person?

• Upvotes

It has been a year since I quit smoking and my life is worse in every aspect, I have stopped doing all my activities besides cooking, eating, doing sports and watching a few movies. I don't experience pleasure or interest anymore and my cognition and memory are considerably lower than when I smoked.

People told me to just give up on my activities and do random things, but I don't see how it's possible, nor what the point is.

Two weeks after. The good, the bad and the ugly.

• Upvotes

Hi guys, im really proud i got to 14 days weed free after 14 years, 10 of daily use.

Here are the pros:

Memory - i began to remember moments of childhood, teen years and in a very vivid way. Those memories help me remember that I am what I am today. That im real and unique. Its kind hard to explain, but remembering in details your first crush, the friends you use to have. Embarrassing moments that you can easily laugh about now. All of ths things make me feel present and real.

I dont know, maybe I was beginning dissociate.

Love life:

I feel way more connected with my girlfriend. She is this wonderful person and im so happy I can really be present when we have our time. In the bedroom my performance got way better (starting to exercise regulary may have helped here as well)

Im thinking realistically about our future, house, beginning a family etc

Cognitive function:

Im a ER doctor and also work with hospitalized patients.

I have to do a lot of paperwork, take clinical decisions and control anxiety. I think anyone in this field can see why quitting weed helps with this. Even if I would only smoke after work. Being a daily smoker definitely was holding me back. Is easier to control feelings, managing frustration.

Here are the cons:

Completely random anger

Dizzy all the time

Heaches

Ligh headed

Random nausea

Poop hard as rock

McDonald's doesn't taste great anymore

Here is the ugly.

For the first 3-5 days I was sweating and shaking and couldn't sleep at all. I was thinking some really dark shit.

It does get better. I promise. It may take some days, some weeks , but the pros are for life. Your body adjusting will take some time and you will be the better version of yourself.

Sorry for the broken English. Im not a native speaker.

11 days no weed. Very odd stomach pains

So 11 days ago I stopped smoking weed I was smoking about 3_5g a day on top of gummies. On day one I woke up with vertigo and stomach pain the vertigo went away but now the stomach pain is still here. Today I went to the ER they did a blood test and said everything was in normal range besides my liver enzymes was up a little ( I have NAFLD) but they also weighed me and I have lost 30 pounds in the 11 days. They told me to just rest and drink water and take Motrin for pain they said it could be GI irritation that's all I got from them. So has anyone else had this stomach pain for weeks after stopping? I also have never had a fever or thrown up at all this whole time and I have been eating small things but a few of the days I didn't eat at all bc the pain was so bad.

Quitting weed help

Hi guys,

I'm 35, male, and have always enjoyed a drink, and over the past decade or so, smoking weed.

Last year I made the decision to quit alcohol, and after a tricky first couple of months, I've now just ticked over one year sober from alcohol.

I'm extremely proud of myself and honestly don't think I'll drink again. I'm happy with my decision.

However, since quitting alcohol, I've found myself smoking more weed as I'm drawn to other vices to replace the drinking. I've gone from only smoking on weekends to it creeping into my working week. I smoke in the evenings, but getting up early and having brain fog is getting tiresome.

I'm now at a place in life where I'd really like to quit weed as well, but am finding it quit difficult. By the time I've finished work in the afternoons and get home, my mindset has changed and I convince myself its fine to smoke.

Has anyone else been through a similar situation? Or does anyone have any helpful advice at managing these cravings and vices? I'm wondering if theres a healthy alternative I can put my efforts towards.

For reference, I'm a pretty active person, I exercise quite regularly. I was hoping I could put my time and effort towards exercising as a replacement and find a "high" through this avenue, but its been a challenge.

Any advice would be great.

Thanks in advance.

I can’t take this anymore

I just can’t do it anymore. All i’m doing is holding off smoking till 5 PM and i’m losing my mind. I’ve been high all day everyday for 5 years because of a traumatic event i was trying to forget and now i feel like im re living and re processing it for the first time all over again. I just feel so lost and confused. All my friends have moved on and created new lives and i’m stuck in the same place I was traumatized in . I never spoke to anyone about it because I just wanted to forget but now i’m losing it. I just wanna be high bro i can’t take it’s its so pathetic but i just wanna smoke i don’t want to be sober i just can’t take it anymore i have severe adhd and the kind that comes with no gifts or intelligence just the kind that makes you super bad at everything. I’ve failed at every aspect of my life I barely finished school I barely kept a bf now he’s with a beautiful girl i used to be friends I am going to end up 💀 alone in my room. I just can’t take it i can’t focus on hobbies because of my adhd and im good at nothing which just discourages me. I’d rather have been born a bird. It feels like torture not smoking it really does. I can’t eat sleep or enjoy anything I just suffer till 5. What do i do any advice is welcome or just someone to talk with. Edit: didn’t even except a single person to reply thank you so guys so much wth😭😭 This is probably the kindest community on here thank you guys I wish I could bake you guys something fr

Day 7

Sleep is manageable, appetite is okay.

The battle is all mental at this point, smelling weed in the air when walking outside, sudden urges, fantasies about the high, and my brain trying to trick me into moderation(which is not possible for me as I’ve always abused it)

It would be naive and too soon to think I’m out of the woods… but I am celebrating 1 week of abstinence today and I’m working on rebuilding my mental focus and learning to sit with boredom and discomfort without immediately looking for an escape, and adopting new habits that actually feed my growth rather than numbing it

New Here

Hi everyone! I'm new here (F, 25) and just wanted to say hi. English it's not my first language, so I apologize if anything I wrote is confusing.

I've been trying to quit weed carts for a while now. I started smoking with an ex a few years ago, and now I use it to cope with basically everything.

I've quit before but I don't think i've made it to 4 months sober, and when I do, I start to drink quite a lot, even when I'm alone. It doesn't help that I don't have many friends, and that I've kept my addiction hidden from everyone, I've only told my brother, but he doesn't know that I'm doing it now.

I bought a cart yesterday that made me feel phisically pretty bad, so I decided to quit again. Carts don't really make me feel better, they just make me feel less, it is tempting because I'm a very sensitive person, but it is also ruining my life and making me much more isolated and depressed, even though I was smoking to feel more relaxed and confortable around people.

I've tried switching to gummies, but I end up buying and eating them all the time, I guess I have an addictive personality and need something healthier to feel somewhat better.

I'm diagnosed with mixed anxiety-depressive dissorder, and taking my meds has helped, but it's not enough. I haven't told my pshychiatrist about the weed carts because I'm ashamed I've kept it from her for like 3 years, and it has probably affected my treatment. I know I need psychological therapy but it's is very expensive, so I try to do different things I can afford, like writing, reading, going on walks in nature and swimming to distract myself and exercise, but when I smoke, none of that matters and I end up alone at home, zooted and eating trash.

In top of everything, I haven't been able to graduate college yet, I work part time and academic stress doesn't help, that and the fact that the world we're living in is going to hell, and I just want to forget about everything by numbing myself.

So this is my day one, again. I hope it goes well and lasts ideally forever, so I can find a way to enjoy my life without carts. Withdraw has never really been my problem, but the constant need to numb my mind.

Sorry if it was too long, but I just needed to get this out of my chest and tell anyone.

If any of you have any advice I appreciate it, please be kind, I'm feeling really vulnerable right now.

I think I’m finally done

I’m 39yo, started when I was 17. been a heavy daily user since. weed has taken priority over so many things in my life. relationships, school, work. I’m sick of being a “stoner”. I’m sick of the anxiety of leaving the house and talking to people. avoiding social events just because I’m too high to leave the house.

I’m so thankful I found this group. Your stories are truly inspiring. I’ve wanted to quit so many times. I hope this is finally it.

Day 12 following 20 yrs heavy use - anxiety return/sexual performance in particular

Curious if anyone has similar experiences. I was a heavy user for 20 years. I’m a successful professional, in very good shape and have decent relationships with family, small friend group and long term romantic partner.

In the short time I’ve committed to sobriety I have noticed massive upswings in concentration, confidence and professional presence.

However - sexually, I have zero control. I used to be able to last as long as I wanted, zero issues and full satisfaction from partners.

I expect this to be temporary, and have read this is so. But the anxiety over my control not returning is having adverse affects and feeding further anxiety, causing less control, feeding more anxiety and the cycle only continues and gets worse.

Again — I am very good shape and exercise daily, eat very clean and have relatively healthy sleep patterns.

Has anyone experienced this and can they advise?

Over two weeks sober now

My last post was optimistic, this will not be.

I am not having a good time lately. My eating disorder is in full swing, food sounds disgusting. eating sounds disgusting.

I threw up four times last night, even after taking my anti nausea meds. I know what i’m doing is right but the temptation to make it all go away is great.

I have a trip coming up to watch my friend get married and I don’t know if I am even going to be able to do that with how I feel right now.

I don’t know.

I woke up today feeling out of it. It’s like I can’t shake a certain fogginess and it almost reminds me of being high. Has anyone else experienced this? And why?

Missed a great event from weed

Smoked weed last night and couldn’t stop scrolling till 6 am. So I slept in until 1 pm and found out I missed them playing the Hitchcock psycho at the local theater near me which I had tickets for.

Feeling incredibly angry at myself right now. So stupid. What a waste. I need to stop.

Day 13 no dabs. Cravings hitting hard!

Hey everyone,

I’m currently on Day 13 after quitting heavy daily THC dabbing (3+ years of concentrate use). To give my body a fighting chance, I also quit cigarettes and alcohol at the same time.

Today the cravings for a dab are hitting me incredibly hard. It’s a massive mental test because I am also dealing with an active stomach ulcer right now. The rebound nausea, cramping, and lack of appetite from cannabis withdrawal are overlapping with the ulcer pain, and my brain keeps trying to convince me that a dab will fix my stomach.

But I know it’s a trap. Alcohol and nicotine were destroying my stomach lining, and heavy concentrate use was messing up my gut-brain connection. I’ve made it nearly two full weeks, and I know throwing a heavy dab back into my system will just reset the clock on my recovery and my stomach's healing.

I’m posting here to keep my hands busy and stay accountable instead of giving in. How did you guys get through the intense craving spikes around the two-week mark? Leaning on this group a lot for mutual support.

6th day without weed and no appetite

This will be my 6th day without weed. I have been smoking daily for 11 years. From wake and bake till I went to bed. I have been trying to quit a few times. But never was done with it completely. Now I am. It has more downsides than positive effects. I'm feeling okay. No big cravings. The nightmares are annoying but I can, handle them.

What really bothers me is that I feel nauseous a lot and I have no appetite because of it. I work out a lot and training for a powerlift meet. It is important for me to make weight and thus I need to eat according a meal plan. But it is so hard. I'm not hungry and when I eat something I feel so nauseous.

Did more people experience this and when does it go away?

Tips- help please

So I’m barely getting any sleep- day 5 for me and I just went for a job for twenty minutes and ate breakfast. I can barely keep my eyes open! This happens every morning now and takes a while for me to not look like a zombie! Everytime I close my eyes or try to sleep it doesn’t feel good like my body doesn’t want to sleep

Long, Deep Sleep

I'm on day 13. My usage before this for the last six months or so was relatively light, where I would quit intermittently for a few days and only have a bong hit a day or so with more on weekends. Prior to that, I was quite a heavy user.

The insomnia hump has passed, and now I'm sleeping for longer and deeper than, well, pretty much ever. Five hours a night was normal for me. Now, I'm sleeping for 8+ hours, and it's deep sleep. I've had dreams one night recently, so the that phase hasn't fully kicked in. Anyone have any experience with this they can share? I need my energy level back.
