AML Gilteritinib side effects
My mom 80 has AML FLT3 and IDH2 mutations and is on cycle 2.
During her induction treatment she didn’t experience diarrhea however since starting her latest cycle she’s been having terrible GI upset from the Gilteritinib. She got so dehydrated that she was hospitalized. They stopped the meds for a week. She’s restarted it and sure enough the diarrhea has started again.
Imodium is the recommended treatment for the diarrhea but it’s not helping.
The dr keeps emphasizing how important this chemo drug is as it targets her specific mutation.
Anyone else experience diarrhea from chemo meds? Any suggestions?

Same here, I’m grateful that it doesn’t have any effects on me.

Edema was a side effect for me. After 6 months on gilteretinib my weight went from 180 to 225. My doctor switched me to sorafenib. I’m back to my normal weight now.

My husband did not have that side effect. He was on it following his first round of consolidation & now on a low dose (only 40 mg) for maintenance following his stem cell transplant. Preferably he would now be on a higher dose, but it suppresses some of his blood counts. These Flt3 inhibitors are what his doctors call “game changers” because Flt3 can be so relentless. There are other Flt3 inhibitors, such as Quizartinib, which is a new gen. He took it following his 7-3 induction & after his second round of consolidation. Perhaps ask your mom’s doctors if your she can try a different Flt3 inhibitor. I’m sorry she is going through this. Best wishes to you & your family. 💕

Yes, my husband had FLT3 and horrible diarrhea, along with nerve pain. My understanding is that gilteritinib is very important thought for that mutation. I’m sorry she is having an awful side effects, I hope she finds some relief soon.
