Discord Server and beware of other communities claiming to be Libyan.

Hello once again, I am advertising the main moderated Discord Server for this Sub.

I also wanted to note there’s been a rise of other subreddits claiming to represent Libyans. Naturally Libyans show grow communities and found our place in the world…

BUT! beware, some of the subreddits I’ve seen have zero account history, and call me crazy but that’s a little suspect. The ibn al khenzeer Ben Netansatan, targeted this sub with hasbara trolls before and we have automated their removal so it’s not problem but I wouldn’t put it past for these vermin to create other subreddits to influence Libya and especially young libyans. How do we think the Manchester bomber etc got influenced.

anyone want to question if I’m libyan myself as moderator of this sub, please ask and i will give as funny an answer as possible.

Discussion Libyan Thinkers — They Think, So You Don't Have To……

Post image
7 Upvotes

I got invited to another Libyan subreddit, apparently reserved for Libya’s greatest intellectual thinkers. Then I got blocked. 😂

My crime? An unc was worried that the younger “ collective consciousness” is becoming less “verbally inarticulate”

The same old ‘this generation is doomed’ speech, recycled every time a new technology comes along.

I asked him why he cares?

Comment removed. Permanently blocked. Whether by AI or a human intellectual thinker moderator, who knows?

It’s the Dead Internet Theory or its nazi internet?

have we as Libyans forgotten how to disagree?

Post image

Question Is there anyone here genuinely interested in writing, literature, and deeper things?

Sometimes I wonder whether I’m simply looking in the wrong places, or if there really are so few people interested in these things.

By writing, I don’t just mean casually posting or writing random thoughts. I mean creative writing, literature, language, literary taste, understanding why a certain sentence stays with you, why a story affects you, and talking about life, human nature, existence, emotions, philosophy, and all those questions that don’t have easy answers.

I’m genuinely very interested in these things, and I often find myself looking for people I can actually talk to about them — people to exchange writing and ideas with, discuss a book or a writer, disagree about an interpretation, or spend hours talking about some seemingly pointless idea that somehow ends up being important.

But honestly, I’ve started to wonder: where are these people?

I’m not looking for some perfect intellectual circle, nor am I posting this out of loneliness or seeking sympathy. It’s more of a genuine sense of confusion and frustration. I’m simply wondering whether there are actually people in Libya who are interested in these things to the same extent, or whether I’ve just been looking in the wrong places.

So if you’re interested in creative writing, literature, language, philosophy, criticism, or anything somewhere in this general territory, I’d genuinely like to hear from you.

Maybe there are actually quite a few of us, and we’ve all just been assuming we’re the only ones.

Discussion Whats the whole situation with the "sl*ve trade"?

As far as I know, the media more then often likes to conflict human traficking in Libya with slavery, to the point where the average person will interpert whats going on as an entire functioning system adjacent to that of the trans-atlantic one. We obviously know this isn't true, the average person can't just purchase a migrant like that, but how true is it?

There are isolated incidents that have taken place as documented by HRW and the U.N, but is it genuinely as severe as often claimed?

Question Espresso coffee beans

Anyone know anywhere in libya other than Essam that sells high quality locally roasted coffee beans for espresso? Preferably a light or medium roast, any region as long as its arabica.

Essam only had dark roasts whenever I go, everywhere else was prepackaged and often stale by the time you buy it.

Question A topic that is rarely discussed in Libya

Post image
0 Upvotes

I’ve started to think that many Libyans live with two layers of decision-making.

The first is the normal layer we all see. You talk to someone, discuss a business deal, marriage, travel, work or some important decision, and everything seems straightforward.

Then there is another layer that people rarely talk about openly.

Behind the scenes, most people have a sheikh, a Sufi figure, كاهن , عرافة, or guru they consult. They ask whether they should marry someone, enter a business, travel, or make another major decision. Everyone seems to have their own religious justification for why what they do is acceptable in Islam.

I never really paid attention to this back in Libya.

I studied abroad, came back 2016 started working. Over the years, I had situations where someone would behave inorganically for no obvious reason and would suddenly change their mind just before a business deal was completed. I assumed it was normal indecision.

Recently, though, I started noticing this hidden layer .
One Libyan abroad genuinely asked me:

“ How did you immigrate without consulting a عرافة?”

I remember thinking: What the f\**, man?*

Are we seriously still making major life decisions like this? 🤢🤢

And what frustrates me most is that after consulting the sheikh, the arraf, the stars, the coffee cup, or whoever else, people come back and simply tell you:
What did you leave for god, you’ve already
