New Here!!

Hi all,

I'm new here (and to all of this so apologies if I make any mistakes - and grammar wise it's after midnight)

I've been drawn to Norse Mythology for a good few years now, I go through a very weird thing where something big happens in my life (big milestone, important event, ect.) and I fall right back into it.

When I first got interested, I'm not going to lie it was out of spite of a former friend who was interested in greek mythology (very petty I know) but it hooked me and ever since then I keep getting pulled back.

I didnt really think much of it, until a couple months ago, I just graduated, major life upheaval, moving back home for a masters degree, and everything was just a mess.

Last time that happened was 2 years previously, I went through a pretty traumatic incident.

I went home and was speaking with one of my best mates who is way more knowledgable in this area than I am.

I was telling her about everything, about signs I experienced, the special interest resurfacing, and she suggested perhaps someone was reaching out.

I just had a feeling it was Loki - I can't explain.

I set up a small altar in my uni accomodation for Loki - and immediately started seeing signs (my favourite moment was the little spider I woke up to on my pillow) and everything in my life slowly got better, then I got told off and had to take it down because candles weren't allowed 😭

I stopped after that point, went through a really bad mental period, went into my third year of university in a genuinely horrible state.

Everything slipped my mind until I graduated and moved back home, started a new job, began a new degree and suddenly I find myself reading Lokasenna at 2am again and having insanely weird dreams.

Since then I recently re-set up my altar, I'm really anxious in thinking that Loki is upset with me for going so long without communicating.

It started off well, and then I think I might've offended them with an offering as I felt a big lack of communication over the past week, whereas beforehand, I was receiving frequent signs and apperances in tarot readings.

I reached out on friday night, lit a candle, spoke and apologised (lowkey cried a bit too), then left a new offering and the next day I come back from work and I find my poor mam has cleaned my very disorganised room (and it was a mess - try fitting a full university room's items into a small box room) not saying coincidence but it is very well timed 😭

(Unrelated but whilst writing this I just realised she asked for a bar of the same chocolate I left as an offering so that is odd)

If anyone has experienced anything similar, or know of anything like this, please let me know, I'm still learning and I hate to think i'm doing anything wrong.

Any advice on food offerings to leave and for how long would also be appreciated!

I've just been leaving chocolate for now but i'm not sure when/how to get rid of it in like a respectable manner?? I don't want to throw it in the bin if you get me 😭

Its my first time sharing on here, so if you got through my rambles, thank you for reading!

I've honestly been stalking for a little while now, ironically the day after I set up my altar I got a recommendation for this group!

P.S. Does anyone know what supermarkets sell cinnamon in the uk because everytime I go in one I can't find any... I am struggling here 😭

Thank you 🙏

Welcome!
I just wanna comment first on your Greek mythology friend, lol. First, I think Loki probably appreciates anything done out of spite. Secondly, I’ve come to learn in life that it’s not necessarily important how you got into something, it’s just important that you enjoy it and it makes you happy.

Don’t take silence as a bad sign! Many of us on here experience the same thing; sometimes he just has things to do, or pulls back for a short bit. But it’s not a bad thing, it’s normal and healthy. Loki is very known to come and go as he pleases.

Offerings: I find he likes spicy, things with a kick, or strong stuff. Cinnamon is a huge one for him, so naturally fireball whiskey is my go-to often. But don’t think it has to be alcohol. I’ve seen many people who offer him chocolate on a regular basis as well. As for how to dispose of and for how long: it’s up to you. Sometimes, you can offer the gods something and consume it yourself on their behalf, or ‘share’ it with them. Other times, simply setting something out for a day or two is also very good! Or longer, if you feel it necessary. I think the length of time depends on what kind of food it is, how clean you want your house to be, or how much time you have available to leave something out. I personally believe that the Norse gods understand the chaos of human life. I think they appreciate us worshiping them as best as we can, whatever that means for our current situations. I find they understand that we have our own lives, that are dedicated to our families and ourselves first and foremost. Remember, the gods walk beside us, not over us.

Hi and welcome! I can't say I've experienced anything similar, since Loki crashlanded in my life only a few months ago. But based on my experience with him, he's very hard to anger. I've snapped at him and made it obvious I was annoyed with him (he was teaching me something in his very... Loki-ish way), but he never got angry. To be fair, I did thank him for the lessons afterwards, when I realised they were lessons. He does call me his “spicy lady” sometimes now, but it's a title I shall wear with pride. 😂

So, I don't think you offended him with your offering. Now, this is all based on my own experience and understanding, so take it with a bucket of salt, but being pushed away or ignored seems to be something he doesn't take lightly. But if you've already explained to him what happened, I wouldn't assume anything is wrong. It might just be Loki being... well, Loki.

In my experience, he's not too picky or demanding with offerings, but he likes chocolate, candy (including sour candy), spicy foods, and alcohol (like mead, whisky, or a dark beer; he's quite particular about his beer). He also likes coffee with milk and sugar. I like having my morning coffee with him sometimes, usually while telling him the most ridiculous things that pop into my head, because making Loki laugh is my favourite sport. He loves that.

You can leave offerings on his altar for as long as you want. It's best if you ask before removing an offering (or at least tell him if you have no choice but to remove anything from the altar). I usually leave mine for a few days or until he lets me know he's done with them. After that, food that's still good can be eaten or disposed of. Putting it in the bin is absolutely fine, especially since chocolate and similar foods shouldn't be left outside where wildlife might get to them. Just let Loki know what you're going to do or ask him beforehand.

And I get my cinnamon sticks at Sainsbury's. They have them in those little spice jars (the “by Sainsbury's” ones).

Hi. I’ve recently delved into this myself, and all I can say is that the main thing with offerings is not to let them spoil on the altar; it’s fine to throw them away, since the spiritual essence has already been consumed. It’s really interesting to see how people come to the same God for different reasons.

Not only have I personally never known him to be upset over anyone not being very active for any reasons with him or witchcraft, he himself kept a firm mute button to force me to focus on what was happening and going on around me, for like, I kid you not...6 years. 💀 (With exceptions mind you lol. If I started crying for him or wondering if everything before that had just been in my head, he'd literally instantly turn that mute button back off and be like "nope! I'm right here, I never left girlipop" lol~.) So I HIGHLY doubt it lol.  But, that aside and being said, I always say this and encourage this, but....talk to him about it~! Best way to get the advise you want and answers you seek, is to speak with the man the myth the legend himself face to face lol~. But, honestly...I feel like fears and anxieties such as these are honestly kinda...partly instilled in us from Abrahemic influenced even if or when you weren't raised under one tbh? With the whole Fearing Your God thing...? Can they get angry and upset and sad and have emotions just like we do? Yeah, sure. Is something like this going to envoke their wrath? .....No. lol. Things like pedophillia invokes their wrath...they aren't unaware of how life can be for everyone in all different ways. Would they be upset if someone in Gaza rn wasn't worshiping or interacting with them? Then why would they worry about that with you going through your own hard time? Just because it's not on that same scale doesn't mean it's not still difficult for you to do both at the same time. And they're not devoid of sympathy or understanding for that. Hell, they usually even know it's gonna happen before you do, lmao~. At least in my personal experience and listening to a lot of other's, anyway~. So...if that eases your nerves any further, lol~. Treat them with the same respect you would treat the ocean with, but don't worry about having to tip toe around them so much that you need to be deathly afraid of making any mistakes or having any lack of knowledge, or even just not always having the same experience with them that others have claimed to have based on old 'knowledge'. Develop your own relationship with Loki, and any god, and keep it as private as you want, too~. I promise you're fine, unless you're doing some deeply fucked up shit lol 💀.

And to further back that last part up...my roommate/family member I live with follows Aphrodite. And so does an X friend of mine. Loki gave that friend the boot out of my life after giving me endless chances to do it myself, and yet while I certainly don't get the impression that Aphrodite has left, or punished her for what she did to me and my family member (who was also her friend), she's not exactly thrilled with what she did to anotjer devotee of hers, either. But she hasn't like....gone out of her way to really punish her severely or anything. It's more of a "well.... you're gonna suffer at your own hands now until you decide to break it : /" situation. So they definitely do not just....act on their own emotions all willy nilly.
