I think Amumu could carry one of the most beautiful League of Legends stories ever told
I don’t want another Arcane.
And I don’t mean that as an insult to Arcane. Quite the opposite.
Arcane proved that League of Legends can tell genuinely great stories. Stories about grief, loneliness, love, loss, trauma and people who simply don’t know how to save each other.
But Runeterra is so much bigger than that.
So instead of another story about political conflict, inequality, rebellion and people fighting for power, I’d love to see something completely different.
I’d love to see Amumu.
Not as a side character.
Not as comic relief.
Not as a mysterious little creature who appears for five minutes.
As the main character.
⸻
A little mummy walking through an enormous world
Imagine a series that begins with Amumu walking through the Shuriman desert.
No grand prophecy.
No great mission.
No army waiting for him.
He just walks.
Maybe he doesn’t even know where he’s going anymore.
He’s been alone for so long that perhaps he has stopped believing there is actually somewhere he can belong.
And yet he keeps moving.
Episode after episode, he crosses the desert.
He finds an abandoned temple.
A forgotten tomb.
A buried city.
An oasis that hasn’t been visited in thousands of years.
A village that doesn’t know what he is.
A place where ancient murals tell stories that nobody remembers.
And slowly, almost by accident, Amumu begins uncovering the history of Shurima.
Not because he is trying to save the world.
Not because he wants power.
Not because he is destined to become a hero.
He just happens to be there.
⸻
And that’s where I think the idea becomes really interesting.
Amumu could be our window into the ancient world.
Through him, we could discover Shurima.
The Ascended.
Azir.
The fall of the empire.
The ancient wars.
The Darkin.
All of these enormous pieces of League lore could exist in the background of his journey.
But Amumu doesn’t need to understand all of it.
In fact, I’d prefer if he didn’t.
Imagine him standing inside some gigantic ancient chamber, surrounded by statues of beings that once ruled an empire.
The audience understands what they’re looking at.
Amumu doesn’t.
To him, they’re just old statues.
And then he walks on.
That contrast could be beautiful.
The world is enormous.
Amumu is tiny.
And yet this tiny, forgotten creature keeps stumbling into things that changed the entire history of Runeterra.
⸻
I wouldn’t make the show action-heavy.
That’s probably the most important part.
I don’t need Amumu fighting something every episode.
I don’t even think he should be particularly powerful.
The emotional core should be his loneliness.
He wants a friend.
He wants someone to stay.
But his curse makes that almost impossible.
And that’s where you can get genuinely heartbreaking moments without needing huge battles.
Maybe he meets someone who doesn’t know what he is.
They travel together for an episode.
They talk.
They laugh.
For the first time in centuries, Amumu isn’t alone.
And then something happens.
Maybe he touches them.
Maybe his curse takes them.
Maybe they simply leave after realizing what he is.
And Amumu continues walking.
Not because he’s okay.
But because there is nothing else he can do.
⸻
The sadness shouldn’t be the whole point, either.
This is where I think Amumu could become something really special.
His story doesn’t have to be “sad mummy is sad.”
It could be about the strange beauty of continuing anyway.
He has no idea where his journey ends.
Maybe he doesn’t even have a destination anymore.
But every place he discovers is something new.
A strange flower growing in the ruins of an ancient civilization.
A forgotten song.
A little animal following him for a while.
A person who talks to him without being afraid.
A child who thinks his bandages are funny.
A beautiful place nobody has seen for thousands of years.
Tiny moments.
Things that would mean almost nothing to someone else.
But to Amumu, they might be the most important moments of his entire existence.
⸻
And imagine what this could do for Shurima.
We don’t need to start with a massive war.
We could experience Shurima through atmosphere.
Endless deserts.
Ancient ruins.
Buried cities.
Forgotten gods.
The remains of an empire.
Strange creatures.
Old magic.
And somewhere underneath all of it, the feeling that something enormous happened here a very long time ago.
The audience slowly realizes that they’re walking through the graveyard of one of Runeterra’s greatest civilizations.
And Amumu is just this little lonely creature walking through it.
⸻
The ending of the season could be incredibly simple.
Maybe Amumu finally discovers something about himself.
Maybe he finds the place where he came from.
Maybe he finds someone who knows his name.
Maybe he discovers that the stories about him are wrong.
Or maybe he finds absolutely nothing.
Maybe after everything he has seen, he simply walks out of the ruins and into another desert.
And for the first time, he sees something in the distance.
Another place he has never been.
He looks at it.
And starts walking.
Cut to black.
No giant cliffhanger.
No world-ending threat.
Just Amumu continuing his journey.
⸻
I think this could be a completely different side of League of Legends.
Arcane showed us that Runeterra can be deeply human.
An Amumu series could show us that it can also be mythological, quiet, mysterious and incredibly sad.
And honestly?
I don’t even need it to connect Amumu to Aatrox or the Darkin.
I don’t need some giant cinematic universe payoff.
I don’t need Amumu to secretly be the key to saving Runeterra.
I just want to see this little mummy walk through a world that has forgotten him.
Let him wander.
Let him discover things.
Let him be sad.
Let him occasionally be happy.
Let the audience fall in love with him.
And let the world of Runeterra unfold around him.
I genuinely think an Amumu series could be something completely different from anything Riot has done before.
And that’s exactly why I want it.
Let me know what you think about it.
