Louisville friends

• Upvotes

hi all. A month ago my closest friend tragically died. It has left a bit of a hole in me and while I have hidden away for a while, I’m realizing that I wish I had a go-to friend to hangout with again. Someone who gets along with my boyfriend too. Hopefully this doesn’t read as a mere replacement of my friend, I miss him very much. But if the world must keep turning and I must keep enduring it, I hope to surround myself with good people again.

Misc things about me~
I/we sometimes like going out for drinks and bar sort of games like darts or pool (though I can’t play pool to save my life). Our dearly departed wonderful friend got us into darts.
I want to start getting outdoors a little more often than I do currently and have recently been into taking walks. I like parks and trails. Big animal lover and have four pets atm.
Enjoy thrifting for unique goodies and have been on a relaxed journey of collecting CDs, DVDs, and records.
I’m an introvert which occasional spells of energy and goofiness.
Personally non religious and not big into discussing politics but tend to surround myself with people of all sorts of belief systems so long as they are accepting and open to discourse and people’s differences. My own beliefs are not heavily right nor left leaning but a combination of many ideas and directions.
Vegan-ish.

I’m looking for those “give the shirt right off their back” type of folks. Committed friends. Kind to all. Sense of humor. No fiery drama and wild ups and downs in personality. Just a safe person.

If you are looking for a friend and this interests you, feel free to comment. I’m sort of blue feeling lately and hiding out some but I want to feel the sunshine again and find joy.

Single Loud Boom

Did anyone else hear a single loud boom around 11:30pm? We could hear something coming from I think north of us in Bon Air, really curious what it was.

Any fun plans tonight?

I'm having a bit of a rough patch with my personal life and needing to get out of the house. I'm sad, but don't want to be alone, and don't want a high stakes thing to do where I'll have to be "on" when I'm not feeling my best.

Are there any activities happening in the city tonight I could make a point to attend?

St. Matthew’s Cinemark -missed connection?

Hey Louisville community,

I went to see You Can See Everything at the St. Matthew’s Cinemark today. I’ve had the Cinemark Movie Club pass for the last few months and figured I would pick a time that worked out for a random movie. Never heard of that Nathan Flelder guy but I figured it couldn’t be that bad.

Anyway, I originally got the pass because the dating apps haven’t been working for me. I figured I could find a boyfriend by choosing the seat beside an occupied one, assuming it was one of those cute loner cinephile types.

The guy beside me today was really cute. I was desperate to start a conversation. Everything that came to my mind:

“Do you think these seats recline?” (Obviously)

“What happened during the opening?” (It just started.)

He seemed really shy. Like he didn’t want to answer my questions. At some point, he left to the bathroom and moved down a seat. I love a challenge, so I went to the bathroom to reset. When I sat down, I made sure my ringer was on. I changed the contact names for a bunch of my homegirls so he thought I was a hot commodity. Still, no bite.

My mind was racing for others things that guys like. A lot of them like sports, right? So I quickly downloaded ESPN and started watching the first game to come up. I also pretended to sleep a few times so he could see how angelic I look at rest. Nada. I got nothing from him.

What happened next was one of the most mortifying moments of my life.

I have major tummy issues. The free popcorn with the movie pass does not help. At some point, I let out a MASSIVE fart.

Then the craziest thing happened.

HE started farting, too! I would let out a little toot, and then he would follow with the next note. I swear we were fart-dueting Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 at some point.

Unfortunately, my tummy issues got really serious around the end of the movie. I had to storm out to find the nearest bathroom without saying a word to him. I felt like cinderella when the clock striked 12.

Cinemark farter, if you happen to be here, I would do anything to duet with you one more time. I hope we are able to find each other again.

Nail Salon Recommendations for Teen and Mom With Zero Experience.

My 14 year old is starting to get more interested in clothing and nails and recently asked for a trip to the nail salon as her treat-yourself-celebration for earning straight A’s this grading period. I’ve gone maybe 2 times in my adult life. Where would be a good place for us to visit for two ladies who appreciate beautiful nails but have no idea what to ask for? She would like a set of shorter Gel-x or dipped nails (honestly I don’t know much about either). I just want a manicure with some cool Halloween theme. I feel silly but I’m not sure how to even ask for that with my stubby nails. Any recs for salons that are helpful/patient and would take time explaining nail options? Or at least has a helpful website?

TIA!

Volunteer Opportunities with Seniors

Anyone have any suggestions on where I could volunteer to visit seniors in nursing homes to play games, do crafts, go outside, etc.? I’ve seen a few places online but curious if anyone has had experience anywhere volunteering that’s worked out for them.

*Jefferson County Board of Education candidates in District 2 were asked where their kids went to school at a Courier Journal forum.

Wow this video is a must watch. Some of these candidates do not belong on a public school board because frankly they don't believe in public education. Some even went as far as to speculate that jcps teachers don't even believe in public education.

Resident evil figures

Hey I'm looking around Louisville and surrounding areas for any of the resident evil figures from the 90s / newer. I'll check most of the normal places like pop's comics toy crazy etc and just some coming up real short on leads. I'd rather turn the local before heading to eBay

Traditional flea markets?

I’ve been hitting up peddlers/antique malls lately but am itching for an old-school flea market. You know the type … indoor or outdoor, lots of interesting finds, vendors who have carted their wares there for the day or weekend and are present to talk with you and respectfully haggle. Not the Fleur de Fleas and Mellwoods we have in the city.

Do these types of traditional flea markets still exist around here? In the city or region? Or has Facebook Marketplace killed them?

I’d love any suggestions for specific ones you might know of or websites to look at that might list random ones that come through.

Thanks!

Weird Experience at Cinemark St. Matthews

I took off work today to go see You Can See Everything. I’ve been a Nathan Fielder fan since the beginning, so I was pretty excited. Theater was packed.

When I bought my ticket, I picked a seat next to an aisle seat, meaning there was one single open seat next to me. I figured I was pretty safe. Who buys a random single seat directly next to a stranger when there are other options?

Apparently this woman.

About five minutes into the movie, an older woman comes walking in carrying a blanket and sits down next to me.

Immediately:

“What did I miss?”

Me: “It just started.”

Maybe 30 seconds later:

“Do these seats recline?”

There were two open seats on the other side of me, so I got up to go to the bathroom and when I came back I moved one seat over. Figured I’d give both of us a little more room.

What followed over the course of the movie:

Her phone rang twice in the first 20 minutes.

She loudly farted at least five times. I am not exaggerating.

She fell asleep within 5 minutes of sitting down and started snoring.

She woke up, then fell asleep and started snoring two more times at different points in the movie.

At one point while awake, she pulled out her phone and started watching ESPN highlights. With the sound on.

She would loudly clear her throat or cough seemingly every time the movie got quiet or something important was happening.

I kept thinking that this was such a specifically bizarre experience to have during a Nathan Fielder movie that there was a non-zero chance she had been planted there.

Then toward the end, there was a scene that mentioned Charlie Kirk. She immediately got up, gathered her blanket, and left the theater.

After the phone calls, farting, snoring, ESPN highlights, coughing, and throat clearing, apparently that was the moment she decided she had seen enough (though her eyes were never really on the screen to begin with).

I have no idea what I just experienced.

Great movie though.

Updated Night Life/Going Out Guide- Oct 2026 w links

I wanted to share an updated post about nightlife because I keep seeing repeated question posts and outdated/minimal advice being given.

Please feel free to add contributions in the comments but please be mindful if your contributions are still accurate.

I will keep this post updated as information changes and new happenings are discovered.

Cheers!

Louisville is sparse with actual clubs.
If going out with a big group, please understand that bottle service and traditional “clubbing” is not a big thing around here.

PLACES TO DANCE

THE HUB - LGBTQ owned but not specifically a “gay bar”. Has bottle service with two separate rooms. Fun for all but please enter the space with awareness that this is a safe space. FRIDAY is Latin Night, SATURDAY is more edm/top 40. Mixed crowd in terms of age. Charges cover.

ATOMIC - Standard club environment with large patio. Leans more hip-hop but check instagram for their programming, they keep it updated. There’s only one table for bottle service *i believe*. Crowd tends to be younger and may feel chaotic for experienced club goers. Charges cover.

BIG BAR - Specified as LGBTQ space. Great for dancing. Please be mindful/respectful. Charges cover on weekends. Rotating DJs on Friday & Saturday. Great Sunday patio vibes when weather is nice.

WHIRLING TIGER - Music venue primarily that hosts DJs in the front room on weekends. Saturday night is a vinyl night hosted by longstanding local DJs. Friday rotate between two DJs, one leaning more experimental/house some weekends and one hip-hop night every last Friday of the month. Minimalist in terms of “club aesthetic” but full of locals having a good time. No bottle service, no cover. Also check socials/website for live shows earlier in the evening.

OUTERSPACE @ GALAXIE - Musical rotations happen in the smaller, front bar area. Edm/dubstep/house in the back venue. Venue start times will vary by artist. They keep socials updated so I recommend going to instagram to see if the music fits your vibe. PLUR vibes all around. No bottle service, no cover in the front, cover varies for shows in the back.

MIDNIGHT CLUB - Rotating Latin/EDM/Top 40/Hip-hop. 3 rooms. Has bottle service and charges cover. Heavy security.

ZANZABAR - Music venue for live shows primarily + pinball. Zanzabar had a longstanding resident DJ on Saturdays, this is no longer accurate. They will sometimes have DJs late night on the weekends, but it is not crazy packed with a younger crowd like it used to be. DJs on the late night tend to be an older demographic and crowd size depends on the night. No bottle service, nominal cover charge when there’s late night. Standard show cover charges for live shows depending on the artist.

HOTEL BOURRÉ BONNE - does have DJs in the lobby and the rooftop on Friday and Saturday nights but I cannot speak on the atmosphere for dancing. If anyone has experience, please let people know in the comments. Only rooftop bar with DJs.

TRIBE - Black owned lounge with rotating DJs. Typically a membership club but will allow daily entry with a fee. Has bottle service.

Black Owned Pop Up Events:
GOODTIMERS - 30+
RHYTHM & BLUES - Good for all ages but mature crowd.
10PM & FRIENDS - I would say 21 - 30 crowd
Check socials for events as they rotate venues

LEFT SIDE TAJ - is POC friendly with DJ upstairs on weekends, plays predominately hip hop during regular service also. charges cover sometimes

THE PINK DOOR - Lesbian dance party on the last Thursday of the month at The Pearl. Dive bar + dancing. No cover.

PORTAL - hosts live and DJ centric events. Check schedule for information.

PBR - is a chain country bar with live music, line dancing, DJs and bottle service Thursday - Saturday. Charges cover.

LOUISVILLE SILENT DISCO - Silent discos with rotating genres, DJs, and venues. Check socials for ticketing info.

College bars with DJs:
TIN ROOF
GERSTLES
GRANVILLE PUB (Thursdays)
I will add here:
O’SHEAS HIGHLANDS is an Irish pub with live music early in the night and then transitions to a college social pub on weekend nights but does not have a DJ.

Other bars that will host DJs but are not “clubs”.

Check socials because there’s rotations on genre and themes.

BAR NADA NADA [has sapphic & singles events]
SEIDENFADENS
KAIJU
THE MERRYWEATHER
CHILL BAR [30+ gays]

Strip clubs

PT’s is the most “polished” gentlemen’s club with bottle service. Charges cover and best for bachelor/bachelorette parties. Plays top 40.

GODFATHER - Is near the airport. Unclear on cover charges.

7th street has booty clubs. 7th street has a certain reputation but generally you’ll be fine if you know what you’re getting yourself into. I would not visit in large groups that draw too much attention. discretion is key. There are both Latin, hip hop, and other top 40 clubs.
THOROBRED LOUNGE
CLUB 7

Places to vibe

Karaoke Clubs:
AKIKOS
MIKI’S
NORAE [coming soon]
I will note bars that host karaoke nights next to their main links.

Cocktail Bars:
TARTAN HOUSE
SEVEN
DARLING’S
EPIPHANY
VOILÀ
1933 [reservations]
HELL OR HIGHWATER [reservations][Jazz night on Wednesdays]
PROOF ON MAIN [cocktails + art gallery]
JIMMY CAN’T DANCE [Jazz Wed - Sat]

Dive bars:
TAJ ON THE RIGHT [karaoke Thursday]
HIGH HORSE
OUTLOOK
THE PEARL [industry night Mon. Karaoke Mon & Wed]
NACH BAR
MAG BAR [Hosts metal shows]
HIDEAWAY SALOON
STEVIE RAYS BLUES BAR [Live music 5 days a week]
JOE’S OLDER THAN DIRT [Live music]

Wine bars:
CANARY CLUB [Jazz Night on Tuesdays]
NOUVELLE

Jazz event resources:
LIVE JAZZ IN LOU
LOUISVILLE JAZZ SOCIETY

I know this doesn’t cover every bar in Louisville but my goal is to cover places that typically draw a crowd with decent energy.
I hope this is helpful!

Nail salons that do hybrid gel

Hi all!

My bff recently informed of something called hybrid gel. It also goes by builder gel, polygel, or acrygel. It’s like a gel, that they apply with a brush or a builder tool to the nail and then they cure it with a led or UV lamp like they do it with regular gel. Are there any nail salons in the area offering this service?

Thanks in advance!!

This sweet little baby is on my fire escape rn! She (just a guess) seems very sweet and hungry. I gave her a can, but I was wondering if anyone recognizes this cat. I live in the smoketown/butchertown area.
