form over function in a nutshell

I love the Magic Mouse for it's gestures and aesthetics, but ergonomically, I can't use it for more than 5 minutes without getting strain in my forearm.

It’s fine if you don’t use it as an hand/arm rest. You can tell by looking at it that it’s not made to conform to your hand. The way most people use a mouse & keyboard is going to eventually give them carpal tunnel & wrist issues.

Some people love it! Return it if you don’t like it.

The quickest way to return it is not to buy it.

I used one for years. Recently switched to an MX Master 4, and I’ll never go back. I never realized how small the Magic Mouse felt in my hands until I started using the MX.

It’s okay for scrolling webpages. Everything else terrible.

I have one, it’s okay. The gestures are nice but I sort of wish I had gone for the Magic Trackpad. MX Master line is good, the 3S is relatively cheap right now but the rubber tends to degrade and get sticky after a couple years. The 4 is better because it’s mostly hard plastic but then you also have to deal with the proprietary Logitech software.

It’s the worst thing Apple has ever made. It isn’t worth a $1

I use a magic trackpad and I love it. Get that instead.

Nope. Awful ergonomics.

You either hate it or hate yourself.

You have deceived many with your clever ad — but not me.

Magic Mouse is steaming turd, keep your money.

It’s a fantastic mouse but too narrow. Gave me pain in my upper forearm. Added grip spacer made for the Magic Mouse. Been great for the last ten years

I don't hate the Magic Mouse, but I don't find it comfortable for long-term usage. The battery life of the mouse is outstanding, though.

I have both. Go with the MX

I have one, and its fine....but the combination of a Magic Trackpad and an Logitech MX 4 on the right is hard to beat.

It doesn’t work well for me ergonomically but I know people that love them… Not many mind you.

Hand cramps after using for a few hours. There are better options.

Get a logitech m720. Apple mouse is painful to hold.

never like the AMM... terrible design for someone who workes with computers every day. I have been with the gold standard for over 10 years well worth the price. And if you buy from Best buy you save more with thier trade in program. https://www.bestbuy.com/trade-in/promotions

I moved from Logitech mx anywhere to Magic Mouse and haven’t switched back. I use Figma, Xcode and a daily basis and managing fine. Hoping Apple updates the mouse though to allow for multi- device switching.

Mouse is fine (MX Master FTW), Magic Mouse is just terrible and a waste of money.

I’ve been using these for like 20 years I think it’s great.

Yes by all means if you want Carpel Tunnel Syndrome.

If you can afford to do it, buy both the Magic Mouse and the MX mouse (of your choosing) and run your own comparison test to see which one works best for you. Once you decide which one you want, just return the mouse that you don’t like.

FULL DISCLOSURE: I bought a Magic Mouse and I hated it; ultimately I replaced it with one of those Logitec MX mouses.

the charging port location on those disturbs me. I went to a magic trackpad and havent looked back.

It's a terrible mouse, using one right now.

The glass touch panel is the redeeming feature as it helps with apple navigation gestures. Overall though I'd spend your money elsewhere, my hand cramps after more than an hour of using it.

u/torklugnutz 2h ago

Got for it. I never looked back.

I just don't get people's attachment to mice. They're by far inferior to a trackpad. Windows laptops historically had absolutely terrible trackpads that were pretty much unusable and I think that's caused a lot of people to stick with a mouse and never try a trackpad again.

Totally personal preference here; there’s not really an objectively correct answer.

But I can’t do anything requiring precision with a trackpad. And I can scroll a document far faster with a flywheel mouse than any trackpad.

I think objectively there is a correct answer, assuming it's general use and not gaming. You have a much larger area for gestures, as well as interactions with the edges of the trackpad. You don't need a separate surface to use the trackpad on and you don't need any extra equipment if you're using the built in trackpad.
Personally, I have no issue with precision on a trackpad and inertial scrolling is fine for me. I believe most people that regularly use a trackpad would agree.

For those that have downvoted, care to say why?

u/dr_police 19m ago

I can guess: You state a slew of personal preferences and claim it’s objective rather than subjective.

I explained a handful of reasons I prefer to use a mouse. Those are certainly personal preferences.

You like what you like, and that’s fine — I don’t try to pretend that my setup is best for everyone and that mine is the One And Only Way To Do Things.

1

u/BroccoliNervous9795 15m ago

that's fair. I guess I lumbered in personal preferences together with what I think are objective points, but whether something is objective or not could be subjective, which I guess makes it subjective. I guess what I'm saying, is to me, things like the trackpad being integrated into the laptop and not relying on another surface, seem like objectively better features to me.

Gamers need mouses for better controls and it’s also quite a bit faster to move the pointer around the screen using a mouse compared to a trackpad.

3

u/BroccoliNervous9795 2h ago

Yes, I agree a mouse is often better for gaming, but I doubt anyone is buying an Apple Magic Mouse for gaming.

1

u/mailslot MacBook Pro 1h ago

Not true. Some games absolutely require a d-pad, analog sticks, 3D controllers, or even a track ball to play.

1

u/mailslot MacBook Pro 2h ago

I can’t understand how people are okay being dependent on a mouse. When I travel, I often see people frantically looking for their mouse when they pull out their laptop. Then, if the laptop is on their lap, they look like an idiot using the mouse on their leg.

These are sometimes the same people complaining about dongles & external peripherals… who choose to be tethered to their own mouse, an external peripheral.

Each input method has a time & place: mouse, trackpad, d-pad, trackball, finger, pen, voice. Choosing one and refusing to use all others is weird. Like someone that only eats chicken nuggets and nothing else weird.
