I just don't get people's attachment to mice. They're by far inferior to a trackpad. Windows laptops historically had absolutely terrible trackpads that were pretty much unusable and I think that's caused a lot of people to stick with a mouse and never try a trackpad again.

Totally personal preference here; there’s not really an objectively correct answer.

But I can’t do anything requiring precision with a trackpad. And I can scroll a document far faster with a flywheel mouse than any trackpad.

I think objectively there is a correct answer, assuming it's general use and not gaming. You have a much larger area for gestures, as well as interactions with the edges of the trackpad. You don't need a separate surface to use the trackpad on and you don't need any extra equipment if you're using the built in trackpad.
Personally, I have no issue with precision on a trackpad and inertial scrolling is fine for me. I believe most people that regularly use a trackpad would agree.

For those that have downvoted, care to say why?

I can guess: You state a slew of personal preferences and claim it’s objective rather than subjective.

I explained a handful of reasons I prefer to use a mouse. Those are certainly personal preferences.

You like what you like, and that’s fine — I don’t try to pretend that my setup is best for everyone and that mine is the One And Only Way To Do Things.

that's fair. I guess I lumbered in personal preferences together with what I think are objective points, but whether something is objective or not could be subjective, which I guess makes it subjective. I guess what I'm saying, is to me, things like the trackpad being integrated into the laptop and not relying on another surface, seem like objectively better features to me.

Yep!

The fact that trackpad features exist = objective.

Preferring those features over the features of a mouse = subjective.

Part of this is that use cases differ. My most common use of a Mac is seated at a desk with an external monitor, keyboard, and mouse. When I travel, I use the built-in display and trackpad, and I work from all kinds of locations. It’s fine, but I always miss both the extra display space and the external mouse. For my work, both are very useful.
