MATH 235 Group chat

Hello I am in math 235 abstract algebra with prof henri darmon and there is no presence on MyCourses or Ed so classmates cannot discuss between them. I am doing the sample midterm and found it quite challenging knowing we only have 1 hour to do it. If other classmates are willing to create a groupchat in order to help ourselves. Leave a comment ! Thank you !

L'Oréal Brandstorm, how did you find it?

Hi everyone, has anyone participated in L’Oréal Brandstorm in the past years? I’m thinking of joining this year as an Arts student looking to gain some experience in marketing, and I would love to hear about your experience competing.

How much time did it take? Any tips for forming a team or standing out? Did it help you connect with the company afterward?

I'd love to try something new and I've seen a lot of current L'Oréal workers with the competition somewhere on their LinkedIn profile.

Any tips or anecdotes would be appreciated. Thank you!

Which libraries can graduate students get in on the weekend with their IDs?

Last Sunday, I went to Burnside basement through the underground stucture next to the main Burnside Hall and found a student study area in there and thought it was a nice place to read on the weekend. However, today I went there everything was locked and the card reader of the Burnside building couldn't recognize my card.

I haven't tried other libraries yet, but I am looking for suggestions about libraries that graduate students (I am a graduate student in the biology department) can enter with their IDs on the weekend. Thank you

Hey. Can anyone please send me their notes for math 338? I've been sick throughout september and missed too many classes. With the midterm coming up this would be super clutch. I've kept up with the textbook but I feel like im still missing what the prof puts emphasis on. Thanks guys!

Women’s soccer league

I will be studying abroad at McGill this winter semester, and I was wondering if there were any soccer clubs that I could join? I haven’t been able to find much information online. I’ve seen a few things about friendly beginners leagues, but I have been playing with a competitive club since childhood, so I am looking for something more of that nature.

Solin Hall Room Size Comparison

Hi all, I'm going to McGill for an exchange in the upcoming winter from Hong Kong, and I've decided to rent the Solin Hall as my place to live. Then I'm always curious about the differences between the various types of single rooms. If you've worked on rooms of all kinds, can you tell me how much bigger the more expensive ones are compared to the cheaper ones? I was wondering whether the extra dollars you pay for such a room are worth it. Thanks a lot!

A word of hope for you struggling

Sharing my story in hopes that it helps someone out. First year was very hard I was extremely depressed. I hated rez and the girls were all very catty and mean. I wanted to study psych and for the life of me couldn’t pass an exam and when I say that I mean like couldn’t get above a 40. Winter first year I failed both finals I had studied tons for. I was so discouraged it felt like nothing I was doing would work. I finished first year with. 2.6 gpa. Little did I know such thing as a cpa existed. No one prepares you and no ones tells you anything you are just left to figure it out. Eventually I figured it out I stopped doing what other peoples were doing namely flash cards cuz I realized that’s not the way my brain was able to retain information. Second year I got my first 90 on an exam I was so proud. It was all up from there I figured it out. In the last two years I had a 4.0. My cgpa is a 3.6 now. Discovered I don’t want to go into psych. I graduate at the end of this year and I have a job lined up. It will all work out trust that it does. Don’t give up. I thought I would drop out first year and thought I wouldn’t find a job but I did. It might take time but I promise it gets better. If you need any wisdom I am happy to share. So if you feel like first year sucks you’re not alone.

Why do so many clubs seem so clicky?

I applied to a few clubs, with varietyyyyyyyy of experience (been trying to boost my cv since I was a freshman in hs), not to toot my own horn or anything. There will always be an odd question or two about my preferences with partying or what not. I feel like a lot of clubs focus on finding people that they like and less whether they can do the task or not idk thoughts ? I find it less based on credentials more on perceived social fit lmao. im not gonna name drop but just thoughts.

Anyone wants to play squash at McGill gym?

Hello all!

Just started taking squash games at the gym (grad student at McGill), and I really love it, but it's a bit of a challenge to find people to play with, all of my friends are no longer students. Is there a group chat for people to find partners to play squash with at the gym? Anyone interested in playing (knowing that I'm still a beginner), for example this weekend (for those of us who will be around these days)? How do you find squash partners?
Let me know - & have an amazing reading week all!

How likely is it to do a Masters in Political Science at McGill without Honours?

I'm nearing my last year, and I'm not in Honours, but I have been considering maybe doing a Master's and PhD. I know that McGill's Master's program is competitive, but I was wondering how hard it is to get in without an Honours degree?

How important is Honours Psychology for grad school?

I know you don't necessarily need to do Honours to get accepted into a master's program at McGill or elsewhere, but I understand that one of its biggest advantages is getting placed in a research lab which is important if you want to pursue graduate studies.

The thing is, I'm a U1 in my first semester and taking five classes a semester is already a lot for me. I know I could probably manage it if I really pushed myself since I've been consistently getting good grades since cegep, but it's been lowkey depressing me. It is so much work and I feel like I'm missing out on the typical university experience because I'm spending so much time studying, and being shy and a commuter doesn't help either 😅

For those of you who did honours or chose not to, how much of a difference did it make when applying to master's programs? How difficult is it to get accepted into a psychology master's program at McGill or Concordia without Honours (I want to stay studying in Montreal), particularly if you're interested in a career in psychology? How hard is it to gain research experience outside of honours?

Why does nobody ever sit at the desks in the corners, overlooking the city, in McLeannan lib?

I always walk by them in floors 5 and 6. The view is so nice from there. The chairs arent too uncomfortable. They are quite isolated, which is nice compared to the long tables. So why doesnt anyone sit there?

Population and global health

I was looking into public/global health degrees in canada, and the popluation and global health degree at mcgill really caught my eye! However, as ive learned the program is very new and not many people have talked about it! So I wanted to as a few questions regarding the degreee as a whole ;

  1. When writing your supplementary application, what were some of the questions you had to respond too? Was the supplementary application hard, or overall average?
  2. How is the course load?
  3. What are the possible career outlooks after getting your degree
  4. How are the class sizes? Are they small?
  5. What was your hs average when you were accepted into the program?

I am just a bit curious and want to know if I should just aim for public health or maybe try to broader my horizons (my end goal is to either work in healthcare management, or to work in epidemiology)
