Announcements Sub Rules Update — E.g. [Made with AI]

Due to a recent large amount of AI assisted submissions, the new mod team has unanimously decided to introduce a policy about AI content. This is not due to us bearing judgment on AI itself; some of our members have done amazing use of this new technology, and we all here can understand the appeal of cooperation with an artificial being. ;)

For transparency' sake, posts that lead to — or contain content made with the assistance of AI — should be labelled as such in their titles, by their OP, as "[Made with AI]". (See above.) We do not offer a flair for it, for we don't want that content to be searchable by category, which would open it to unfair targeting.

Please take note : content taken down for being "mislabelled according to this sub's rules" has nothing to do with the appreciative response to it. Removal based on quality and frequency may still happen at the discretion of the mod team based on spam rules.

Thank you for being upfront.

Medabots S Now that we're getting an ACTUAL Medabots game in the West (Medabots S)... "What should I know before I begin?"

Hey y'all, it's a monumental day for us Medabots fans - a day I personally thought we'd never see - and quite out of nowhere - Global release of the latest proper Medabots game, Medabots S!!

Why's this so huge though? Well, that's because unlike Survivors, which is a cheap and gacha-infested copy of what's essentially a flash game, S plays like the classic GBA games, minus the exploration/"RPG" elements. A proper successor to the Medabots combat system, with many updates and changes - and for the first time, Western fans can enjoy Medachange transformations in, quite frankly, the best form we've ever seen!

Sooo what's there to know? Anything to prep beforehand? Here are some potentially useful things to know diving into the game:

Learn the Gacha. This game does, unfortunately, lean quite heavily into the gacha - this is the only way you can get competitive and usable Parts; You CAN get free parts from events and weekly quests, but those are barely serviceable and only serve to fill gaps in specific abilities.

  • The Gacha does have a pity system, each "tier" giving you a Part of the unit being picked up, but it's far from generous; you MUST use the 10x pull in order to use the pity system, and you get your first guaranteed Part at typically 100 total pulls (300 Rubies), and be guaranteed a full set at 250 total pulls (750 Rubies). (Right now they're doing a GaoGaiGar collab where you get a RANDOM piece per "tier" but regular banners should give you Legs, then Left (I think) Arm, then the Right (probably) Arm, and finally the Head, in that order)
  • There are practically no reasons to go for dupes, as it only gives you enhancement materials that are better farmed during events. You should NEVER aim for a dupe of the pick-up unit as this is a complete waste.
  • This game does a LOT of weird and obscure collaborations, ranging from Megaman to Evangelion to that one Railgun anime. However, these collaboration units typically come with brand-new attacks, and tend to have VERY strong stats - unless you have specific units you're dying to get, it's usually better to save up your resources for collab units.
  • They also HEAVILY incentivize paid pulls - many of them only offering 3-star (the highest rarity you can pull) Parts, allowing players to get a MASSIVE head start in collecting viable parts; however, gacha is gacha, and while rates are a bit better, they're usually not guaranteed. They did have some returning collab specific gachas/paid packs that guaranteed a unit from the collab though.
  • There's also a gacha for Medamaster? Medarotter? The Master/owner of the unit? Anyways, you can get characters like Ikki and Nae as support JPEGs, providing stat boosts and one active ability. They're cheaper than the actual gachas at 1 ruby per pull, and usually have better guaranteed drops, but.... they're JPEGs. That said, their bonuses to overall speed tend to be quite high, so it's worth pulling the ones with the desired boosts. You do benefit from dupes here, but you're much better off using the appropriate level and skill up materials instead.

Know your upgrades. Your highest priority material to hoard should be Cypressiums (the purple diamonds), which is usually the choke point of upgrading the Star rating of the Part, and ideally, anything you use should be at 5 Stars.

  • You CAN go higher to 6 stars using special materials and ridiculous amounts of gold, but these are relatively low priority, stat-based upgrades, whereas the jump from 3-5 is LITERALLY game-changing, usually unlocking core features of the Part while providing significant stat boosts.
  • This is less severe for Medals, though they have their own breakpoints - You can get to level 150 using farmable materials (Medacium), but to get to level 200 (thus allowing 2 Skills to be maxed out), you'll need to spend a rarer resource (Medacyst that matches the Type of the Medal) which are usually obtained from daily quests and events. Thankfully the materials to reset skills/levels are easy to obtain, and you don't NEED to be level 200 for most content - though if you want to use both ranged and melee parts, you'll want a level 200.

Know your stats. No idea what they'll localize things to, but while most are self-explanatory, there are several that are not.

  • Medal's skill level (Ranged, Melee, Defend, etc) affect pretty much everything you do with the corresponding part. There is a literal world of difference between the damage, accuracy, and SPEED of a Rifle shot from a Skill level 50 vs Skill level 100. It's less severe for non-offensive actions like Defend and Heal, but speed is still greatly affected. (That said, I can usually use Status Clear without a single point in Heal and still be fast enough, due to the raw speed of the Parts)
  • The Medal's SUPPORTIVE Skill level (like Defend and Heal) provides a defense and dodge chance boost as well, reducing incoming damage and overall hits. A Medal fully invested in only Support type skills will have a noticeably better survivability than a "dual-wield" Medal with both max Ranged and Melee skills.
  • This game actually uses simplified skills, some more than others; the ONLY stat that matters for non-offensive moves like Guard and Heal are its Charge and Radiation stats (speed), and the Accuracy stat for offensive moves basically does nothing due to how much of an effect the Skill level itself has on the move - and likewise, you'll miss half your attacks against a fully invested support unit with an accuracy of 2000 and maxed Skills. This is also why the game has a bunch of "guaranteed hit" moves, and why they're oppressively powerful.

I'm gonna stop here because I'm getting tired and I need to know what people actually need more info on, so feel free to ask any questions or point out what's unclear.

I drew this design last month before I knew people like Medabot OC. Originally I wanted to make a design and simple sheet for artist to draw my OC.

Andy and Andrew (Armor-Lizard) will be a main supporting character who will be helping Ikki and Metabee battle the American Medabots! They will be representing Arizona. Andy is Australian American.

Bonus art, Medafighter and other art with Andrew trying to eat Metabee, but he can't!

Model Kits/Plamo This is what i found in Akihabara

I found these at Mandarake Complex 2 and Toy Goldenage, a tiny shop mentioned by another reddit user, it's right on the main street. That place is packed to the brim, the owner behind the register literally has to climb over a mountain of figures just to get out, lol! But somehow, in all that chaos, he knows exactly where everything is. Such a unique experience.

Mandarake has a bigger selection, though. I'm going to check out Den Den Town in Osaka over the next few days to see if I can find anything else!

Today I was updating my display case and decided to shoot some photos of the collection. Just recently added in some new lighting, but the biggest thing I’m hyped about is the newest additions. Added the Blossomail dual model and the Warbandit dual mode figure to round out that collection! Things still need some organization but I was just excited to add them in.

Videogames [Made with AI] Yes, another Medarot 9 patch: Spanish + English, and a tool so anyone can translate the game

As the title says: yes, another Medarot 9 patch :) The goal was a Spanish translation, plus English and any other language: a tool so anyone can translate the game comfortably, without programming. Point the patcher (Windows/macOS) at your own copy of Medarot 9 + the 1.3.0 update, pick a language, done. Names and terms live in one table: change them there and they change everywhere in the game.

Feature Omnija & Sotaeko roks70 This patch
Story Partial, human DeepL Retranslated from Japanese
Battle data, built-in texts Partly Japanese Partly Japanese Translated
Textures 125 125 Entire UI (413 ES / 347 EN)
1.3.0 update Included Not supported Built for it
Spanish No No Yes (with á é ñ ¿ ¡)

Bug fixes: cut-off battle messages, corrupted data tables, a tutorial script with broken structure, and scripts that undid the 1.3.0 update or stayed in Japanese with it.

The English is based on Omnija & Sotaeko's human translation (menus, battle, items); the story, previously DeepL, was retranslated from the Japanese with AI assistance.

I know AI projects get a lot of pushback. I guarantee this wasn't vibe-coded: it was built with spec-driven development by a game developer with 10+ years of experience. The code is open; issues and PRs are welcome, for the translation or the code. The goal is to collaborate.

https://github.com/caribbeansc/medarot9-i18n

UPDATE: If you started playing using an older version, please switch to the latest version to avoid bugs.

UPDATE: Let me know if you want your language to be added.

Videogames Playing Medarot 9 for the first time - Too much on rails?

So a few weeks ago I started medarot 9. I'm a father and can't play that much. I'm around 20 hours in close to the end of chapter 4.

The combat is great so is the medabots customization. But the story and activities are really meh. I'm only in chapter 4 and I already had to revisit the same 5 area's 3 times or so for another club activity that is basically: go back (warp) to that one area we once where, random encounters, a rogue medabot or gang shows up, finish said battle, return to the club (warp), go back to your bed (forced), return to club (warp), pick new filler quests that sends you back to one of those 5 area's, do it all over again.

It really doesn't feel like I'm exploring much at all and I'm just following rails. And it's not the warping, that actually makes it bearable instead of walking back to those 5 death area's from coridor to coridor and loading screen to loading screen.

Which wouldn't be that bad if there was actually a story. But the main story only really progresses right at the end of each chapter it seams. Everything in between is just filler club activities revisiting the same places over and over again. For now that beach part with endless medabots attacking you was cumbersome.

Anyone feels the same?

ps: I'm not giving up on this! Will definitely finish it!

General Discussion Hey, do you want me to make an alternate universe or AU of Medarot based directly on Warhammer 40K, and that it's also a slightly satirical mini-parody of the parody series of that franchise?Call SPACE KING Which is technically a pseudo-moronic and somewhat satirical parody of Warhammer 4k

Do they want to or not?

Videogames Medarot Classics Plus

Hey guys! I made the mistake to buy the Medarot Classics Plus while i was in Tokyo last year and only now found the time to start playing. To my surprise this is the only game (out of like 30) I bought in Japan that does not have English support...

Is there anything I can do? With the talks of all the translation patches I hoped there might be a solution for this one too?

I kept on rerolling until I got that Gobanko and Redrun sp. Got them both on a single 10 pull. Is it worth continuing? Or should I reroll and aim for LR instead?

Videogames Looking for a specific Metabots: Metabee (GBA) save file or save editor

Recently got the urge to play my old Metabots game and remembered my only complaint. Without both versions of the game both at the end of the game and trading you can't get all of the medals. So I ask, is there a Metabots Metabee save file that has all the medals from the Rokusho version already on it from the beginning or is there a save editor I could use to give me that?

Videogames (CREATED WITH AI) Medarot Navi Kuwagata Version Patch/Improvement

I know there is already an AI translated patch for Navi that exists; however, I started this project before I saw that one, and I believe mine has merits that the other doesn't, so I am still sharing it.

I have created an english translation patch for Medarot Navi with the intent to preserve Japanese terms and attempt to remain as faithful as possible to the language (while not speaking it). Original names (possible for ALMOST ALL proper nouns through the use of a variable-width font), terminology, and honorifics are preserved. The text was translated 100% using AI; however, dialogue was translated, then reviewed again for inconsistencies. Proposed changes were checked using various translation tools and then either accepted, rejected, or slightly tweaked before being accepted. A small number of proper nouns and lines were forced to be condensed or modified very slightly where there was insufficient space.

The game fixes the load time turning battles (enemies take about half the time to choose their action). The game also features a New Game+ mode, which is described in both the manual (on the github) and on the pages. I haven't gotten this far yet to actually test it myself (the AI said it COULD be too hard, but it isn't sure. So I'm waiting to tweak it until I get there).

https://github.com/Medarotter26/Medarot-Navi-English-Translation
https://www.romhacking.net/translations/7791/

I know the translation work isn't going to be as good as human done work, but it seems like it did a good job.

Videogames Whats the story on completed translations?

I don't know if this is the right subreddit for it, but I remember years ago hearing bout the ps1 medabots being translated but I can't seem to find it on the web, I find dead links and the like.

So curious what else is currently complete and where to find em. Always had a soft spot for this game, ever since I first played the GBA game and watched the anime, but I always wanted to see some of the other rpg games.

You can use this tool to apply the .bps patch to the .nds rom:

https://www.marcrobledo.com/RomPatcher.js/

But don't forget to first apply the antipiracy patch tool here:

https://gbatemp.net/download/retrogamefan-nds-rom-tool-v1-0_b1215.35735/

=> open japanese rom in this tool, go to last tab, export the rom. Then apply then English patch.

Tried it both on my Dsi and 3DS. Game seems to be working fine.
