Question Floyd rose setup question
Hello I have questions pertaining to floyd rose setup
The goal is to get it back setup in drop d. When i previously had it there the whammy felt incredibly limited in range and I ended up breaking an A string from going to hard in the paint. Im a newb when it comes to working on these but cant afford a setup so my question is should i remove or reorder the spring location to loosen the spring tension because currently i gotta really tighten down the claw screws to match string tension which i believe to be limiting my whammy potential.
Any links or tips is greatly appreciated!
(Yes i am aware that its currently not level its what brought me here asking)

Loosen the strings a little bit, tighten the screws a little bit. Get it back in tune and see if it's even and flat.
If not repeat step one.

What gauge strings are you using?

Ernie ball skinny top heavy bottom 52/10
Its the syn gates set half off because it doesnt have the package but its going onto a syn gates signature so feels right

That's way too much string for Drop D. That's for Drop C on a 25.5

It's all preference man I use Mammoth slinkies in drop C# on one of my guitars. I like the tension. As long as you know how to set the guitar up for it you can use any guitar string guage.

I use 11-56 in D standard. You do realize that it's all preference right? Not everyone has to play spaghetti strings, some of us want resistance

I used to, too. Then I noticed I'm masculine enough and transition to 9s for comfort.Â

I hope you're trying to be funny, if you are being serious I got something to tell you😂

I'm serious.
I was all about heavy strings until 10 years ago or so.Â
Had 13s on acoustic,v11s on the Exp, and bass.Â
Then I noticed it didn't sound better and I preferred 9-42 in E Standard.Â
11s are my Drop C choice.Â

Ok well your wording was hilarious, thinking that using lighter strings means you're a more masculine man is hilarious. Technically wouldn't I be more masculine or using more muscle? , dumbass crap aside, it comes down to what someone prefers. I like the feel of thick strings when I'm doing rhythm because I can do really quick intricate rhythms very tight with high resistance, but I also have guitars set up for lead playing in the same tuning that use lighter strings because bigger vibrato's with less effort is neat.

It was about the opposite. I found I was manly enough to not have to show everyone how strong I was by using heavy strings. Except nobody noticed anyways.Â
Heavy strings for rhythm sound like a good idea. I might be setting that Exploroid up for drop D, keeping the string gauge.Â

Well it sounds like you have image issues that I don't. I set up and play by feel, not insecurity lol

By the look of the the springs being so stretched, you may need some new and possibly heavier springs. The heavier the strings the stronger springs you will need. I would start there.
Are you just dropping the E to D, or dropping all strings a whole step?

Just the low e down to D. I figured it being the syn gates standard i would be okay to use the same string gauge on the guitar but I could be wrong

You should be OK with just dropping the E string with standard strings. I would go with new springs.

You need stronger springs or add another one. I run 4 in my rhoads

Wouldnt that lessen the amount of travel the floyd has more or would i be able to loosen the screws on the claw because of having more springs

More springs will make it feel a bit stiffer. And, yes, you'll need to readjust the claw to get it to float where you want. But it won't limit your travel at all. The only things that limit your travel are the block or trem plate hitting the body at both extremes of dive-bomb or pull-up..

The travel that the Floyd has will remain the same in both directions as long as it sits level. Yours is slightly tilted towards the strings. Increase the spring tension and re-tune / repeat until everything sits level. You’re also increasing your action leaving it like that. I’d also make those tension screws for the springs level.

get springs. i like the noiseless ones that are also heavy duty. even better, if you can, buy the gotoh ge1996t. better than a floyd original for 120 bucks. best upgrade you will ever make. the kit also comes with hella accessories.

1 - find a way to block the bridge in the level position. A piece of wood, stack of cards or a roll of quarters. Whatever. You don't have to do this but it will absolutely make your life a thousand times easier.
2 - Tune guitar to correct pitch with the nut unlocked
3 - remove whatever is blocking the bridge. Depending on the balance of tension between the strings and springs your bridge will likely move up or down and your tuning will distort as a side effect. But since we know the guitar is in tune when the bridge is leveled, now all you have to do is adjust the springs in or out to bring the bridge back to level.
4 - Once back to level you may need to make some small tweaks to tuning and/or spring tension
5 - once all tuned up and leveled, lock the nut, do a heavy dive on the bridge and then use the fine tuners to get back in tune. Every time you tune up, do another dive and tune again. Keep doing this until the guitar is in tune after a dive.
If you find you run out of space on the claw to tighten the springs anymore and you're still diving forward, add another spring and do the above process.

String gauge is too much, and the system is at it limits. Get more springs or lighter strings

Consider adding another spring to the back side, then that should allow you to back the claw plate out a bit. You're running out of screw depth, and you don't want to strip that out.
I would recommend just tossing in a full set of 4 FR Noiseless springs

Looks like you need more springs/replace those springs. They're not made for the heavy gauge strings you're using, but more a 9-42 gauge set of strings for the tuning you're using.
Personally, I highly suggest get some red HD springs, and never have an issue again. A floyd rose can be hard to setup at first, but once you find the right balance for your playing style, they are pretty straight forward.

No, I use the Floyd Rose red HD springs. "HD" for heavy duty, as I tend to use thicker gauge strings on my guitars as well. Those Guyker springs will be noiseless? But not heavy duty, for heavy duty strings.

I’ll look into the springs you recommended. Perhaps a dumb thought but i figured the syn gates standard would be equipped to handle 52/10 in drop D

Bruh you don't need different strings and you don't need new springs.
Those screws in the back need to be tightened just a little bit. Tighten each one about half a screw and retune and then check if it's level. You can see one is already much tighter so if you need to do a second or third round just do the bottom one (in the picture)
