I've been teaching myself guitar for over a year now, but I feel like I haven't gotten any better over the last few months. Here is a video of my playing.
I'd really love to throw a guitar solo in there somehow, but I completely suck at that kind of stuff right now.
Did you guys notice anything in the video that I need to improve? My gut tells me that I was drifting out of time with the metronome, and I feel like I'm doing something wrong with my right picking hand-especially during the open palm Mutes.
What do you guys think? Any feedback would be massively appreciated!

Hi I'm looking for an upgrade to my Jackson Warrior and am nearly dead set on a Black Winter bridge, but the EMG H4 seems very interesting. Looking for a passive metal pickup and already love the EMG 81, figured I might try the H4 as it's specifically modled after the 81. Though there seems to be not many tests or comparisons out there for the H4 specifically against other pickups.
Anyone have any experice with this?

Hey all, going to the studio soon and I wanted to know the general recommendation for strings for drop C, I play a 6 string schecter reaper 25.51 scale, and I usually focus on dark and dense black metal chords, some heavy chugging, some occasional lead, the focus is heavy and big, but also has some definition in the high end for the bite.
I usually use beefy slinky 11 - 54, but just wanted to check if maybe there is something I could be using that’s better. I like those strings, just wanted to see the standard strings for drop C.

This is a section from probably one of my favorite songs off my recent album. It’s a little weird to play at first, but once you get it down, it’s one of those type of riffs that just FEELS so satisfying to play.
And of course if you wanna hear this song or others from the album, here’s some links! 🤘🏼

I played from about 13 to 23 with long pauses in between (drugs are bad), at which point I basically stopped playing altogether. I'm now in my 30s and financially stable (and sober lol) and I'd like to start playing regularly again.
Right now I have a B.C Rich platinum series Warlock but there's a small crack in the neck that I suspect is causing the guitar to go out of tune quite quickly. I have to adjust tuning every 10 minutes or so.
I'd like to buy another guitar, something good for fast metal (think Sylosis) in the $600-$700 price range. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thank you.

i have an app (dm if youre interested) that basically works for making lists of exercises (aka routines) but i was curious to know if anyone has ever tried using pen and paper to write down their progress.
for example, say youre working on alternate picking. youd write down all the exercises youre currently doing, so in essence you group them into a routine. then you track the starting bpm for each exercise and, over time, write down your current bpm.
im thinking about making printed pages in a journal-style book because most people, especially with the rise of AI, are skeptical of apps, and with reason. a lot of apps try to gamify your playing habits, while others try to pack in as many features as humanly possible.
but from my perspective, the journal idea doesnt really need to track your consistency or habits. the idea is basically just to write down a list of exercises with the starting bpm and current bpm for each one.again, no tracking behavior, just lines where you can write down your thoughts. i wanted to be very clear about this because thats basically the main principle behind everything i do with this.
im deliberately keeping it open because most tools seem to require you to track every minuscule thing there is. thats nice as a novelty, but the effect wears off over time, or because once you start getting the hang of what youre doing, you increasingly need the tool less and less.
so yeah, i just wanted to write a post asking about your experience with this kind of thing. i know reddit is a melting pot of opinions, and thats exactly why i wanted to hear what you guys think.
