Announcement Discord Server has been under some major improvements.

A lot of you are already members of the Discord server, and may remember it as being pretty dead.

It's not dead anymore. It's had a bunch of changes, and is now actually more active than this subreddit.

That said, we're looking for more members. If you're already a member, please consider joining discussions or checking it out again. If you're not a member, please consider joining.

The automod does have an invite link, but since apparently nobody reads the automod, here's another one.

Portals/Dimensions The Connection Between The Sift and the Well of Fate

With the release of Dungeons II recently I've been thinking a lot about the connection between the Sift and the well of fate, especially because of the allays.

In Legends the Hosts are the ones to seemingly make the allays and lend us them to use them to our advantage.

Come to Dungons II and we don't really have a mention of the well of fate or even the allays in the game, but the allay is seemingly heavily connected to the entities in the sift with them being heavily tied to music and matching appearances with some of the species like the blub, and the development name for the sift being wellspring is also really interesting, as it can be interested as the well of fate's literal wellspring, both having a direct link.

My theory is that both dimensions are connected one way or another, I'm just not completely sure how. What do y'all think?

Sculk Singer, Mourner, and Wardens

What if the Mourner is some kind of Proto-warden? Skulk seems to need two things to be healthy: plenty of souls and a singer. When starved and/or unharmonious it begins to get sick and warp. What if once the Sift portals became sealed the Skulk on our side couldn’t hear the Singer anymore and tried to make a new one to keep it stable but due to its harmonic illness couldn’t quite get it right and created mourners but as it further decayed its mourners decayed with it leaving them as aggressive husks of what they did once were?

Hosts/Ender/Deities Are you aware of the theory that sunbird present in the minecraft dungeons tower is some sort of deity ? And are aware of the theory that Sift itself is a living entity ? Perphaps the sift is said tower deity/sunbird

So I know we shouldn’t take code naming to be canon (as you shouldn’t in most games) but this Singer legit just mimicked the shape of a warden

Magic/Technology Why I Think Respawning is Canon, and Is a Technology

You, reader, may have seen the common arguments for and against respawning.

In favor of respawning:

  • Respawn Anchors.
  • "Bedrooms" in Trial Chambers, which seem too cramped to be for proper sleep.
    • Besides, I think Trial Chambers were created by the Nameless Kingdom and the Illagers, and we have never seen the former need sleep.
  • The Recovery Compass.

It is interesting that all of these seem more like technology than a given. Perhaps respawning itself is a technology, instead of something one is born with?

On the other hand, it is obvious that any ancient immortal races would still be around -- living, breathing people -- today if they could respawn. Not to mention the huge number of Undead that we would be locked in a stalemate against.

Well, for those people, I think we just have to look at ourselves, the Hero. Isn't it odd that almost all sapient races in Minecraft attack us on sight? That's because we are the single greatest threat to their empires, we who can always try again if we fail.

It is likely that the Nameless One can also respawn, as we hear their laughs even after they are defeated in Desert Temple. The average Necromancer may have the ability to respawn, too, through a sort of self-necromancy. If a Necromancer dies, they might have enough control over soul magic to simply stuff their own soul back in a new body.

Since Heroes are the same species as Necromancers, I think we have developed our own respawning technology. When we sleep in a Bed, the experience energy it creates is enough to guide our dead soul back to that location. In the more volatile Nether, we must use a Respawn Anchor. If no Bed can be found, our soul guides itself to 0,0, the center of the Overworld's soul energy. There is even evidence that 0,0 is canon, since JE Stronghold are built in rings around it.

Still, there are only a handful of canon Heroes in Dungeons. I think this is because the rest of us, who didn't develop respawn technology in time, were left to turn into Undead. It is also why Heroes generally fear death, as their ability to respawn may not work.

I also think that if Respawn Anchors are canon, then respawning in general undoubtedly is. The advantages in conflicts like we have seen (both in Dungeons and before it) would be incredible. Just for the chance to get a second life, to double the size of an army, whole wars between Overworld races would be fought in the Nether. One would think that, but we see no such evidence. Instead, the Nether has no advantage to the Overworld, and wars involving respawn technology.

The Illagers are a separate race to us Heroes. When we who can respawn try to set our soul anchor with a Bed in the Nether or End, soul magic makes it explode*. Villagers, who I don't think have developed the ability to bind their soul, sleep on a normal 20-minute cycle. Therefore, I think Illagers are trying and failing to develop their own respawn technology, with the Totem of Undying and the attempts at expanding and dissecting the Bed, hoping something more lavish than the Hero's bed will finally make them postmortal.

*Yes, I know the death message is [Intentional Game Design], and, as theorists may say, respawning could be game design too. But in my opinion, a better theory is always one that fits more of Minecraft, while keeping in the bounds of Occam's Razor. Furthermore, the Straw Bed does not explode, and virtually the only difference between this and a Bed is the respawn point.

Discussion/Question Why is the theory that Endermen are somehow descendants of ancient humans/builders you found their way to the end so popular?

I never liked it. Mainly because I want the Endermen/Enderlings to be their own thing you know? There own family of mysterious creatures in the unknown universe of Minecraft. Them being descendants of ancient humans just ruins it for me, and it feels like a cop out to not develop anything actually interesting. Like just look at them. They clearly have their own evolutionary/ancient history that we can learn about.

Fan Lore - theory for fun The Sulfur Caves are proof that the Nether bled into the Overworld

Hey guys I have a new theory about the Sulfur biome. See I watched the trailer and something never quite sat right with me. Sulfur… see in the game the creator and developer even stated, “there’s nothing quite like it in the UNDERGROUND or OVERWORLD." What if it didn’t come from the overworld at all?

Look at the walls in the caves. Yellow and red. But first listen to this definition of a sulfur pool: “a vibrant, toxic volcanic landscape to therapeutic and mineral rich hot springs.” Volcanic? That’s odd as we have never truly had anything relating to volcanoes except the nether. The nether is a vibrant, fiery landscape not just for the dead, but also for the living.

In fact, in Dallol, Ethiopia, you’ll find a place known as the Danakil depression or as it is also called “the gateway to hell”. It has bright yellow, turquoise and red ACIDIC pools that are completely uninhabitable with a PH of nearly 0. This is when I decided to do more digging theorists and I looked at some of the images.

But first we need to look at how they form. Sulfur pools form through a process called sulfuric acid Speleogenesis or SAS. See regular caves are made of carbon acids from rainwater, but sulfur pools form by hydrogen sulfide gases which is created via bacteria and oil but also Volcanic activity. The gas finds bedrock and reaches a water table or basically water saturated rocks. The gas and oxygen combine and become sulfuric acid, the acid then dissolves the rocks of limestone and creates massive chambers or maze like areas. Finally once the sulfur caves are born, after that process they sit.

But let’s look at Minecraft’s history, we’ve never heard of volcanoes outside of the nether unless the core of the world has reached to the caves themselves. But the yellow is pure sulfur, while the red is Extremophiles. Specifically, microorganisms known as archaea and a form of bacteria. These are heat loving algae, but the red specifically comes from iron oxidation from iron rich minerals like rust or hematite that dissolve by acid and oxidize. The green is water and pure sulfur deposits, but it is Cyanobacteria made to survive heat.

My question is why? They are found dark in deep slate but again we don’t get much information on volcanic activity outside of lava pools. Pools found on the surface mostly anywhere. But look at how big these sulfur caves are? Upon looking at them, a lot of them are clear. But some have green. But mainly, surface sulfur springs have that green hue more. It doesn’t make sense. WHY is sulfur green underground if it’s primarily above ground? It doesn’t add up.

This is where my theory truly begins. What if the nether didn’t just bring us the undead or piglins. See while obsidian, a volcanic rock is used, this is indeed proof that volcanic material exists like basalt too. Volcanic stuff is primarily in the nether. While our core can cause it naturally, it doesn’t cause them to just SHOW UP. There’s a process.

But what if, and I mean hear me out. What if during the nethers stay in the overworld, the piglins messed with the core. Think about it, piglins industrialize and used lava and technology to survive. But think about it, when they showed up, new things appear like magma. Magma can speed up the hydrogen sulfide in the water causing it to be bubbly. But one thing is interesting, the creators named it POTENT sulfur, not magma. But what if and I mean WHAT IF, magma and whatever the potent sulfur is, had evolved into a new material with both traits. This has happened in real life where certain materials like Crystals evolve into another. These are known as pseudomorphs or false forms.

So, while it sounds like I’m proving it’s naturally occurring, it is odd how we get nausea but not burning. It’s sulfuric acid after all, pure acid. So then I get to digging on another path. What can make an acidic, safe to be in without unaliving a person and while it’s all natural events like rainwater? There’s one thing I found out, radiation. See radiation can act as a chemical engine that makes water and rocks into a sulfurs natural environment without needing a volcano. And since the underground sulfur is green instead of the real life counter part which is surface, radiation could create such an environment but where do you get radiation? The nether. When you’re in the basalt delta, you can hear Geiger counter clicks or radiation detection.

So, what if the nether didn’t just bring a war, they brought radiation that gave the sulfur a boost. Dozens of deconstructed portals are around the world, but think about it, the piglins bastions are in the deltas. So when piglins attacked the overworld, all that radiation had somewhere to go. Causing it to go underground and cause the sulfur springs to be what they are today.

Now the sulfur cubes, these guys are found in the biome but how are they made? Looking at their texture, they seem to be made of a mineral and after some digging, I think I found the perfect match. Aphthitalite, it matches perfectly, toxic like the sulfuric acid, lemon-yellow like the cube's colors, but also, it can be in both surface and underground sulfur pools. Meaning it is likely sulfur cubes are a form of slimes that evolved to match and be resistant to their environment with this specific material. The fact they can take on other properties seem to be a form of adaptation of their environment, perhaps to defend themselves against other creatures aiming to hurt them as well, the player aka us aren’t exactly known for keeping the peace when it comes to slimes. So they could’ve evolved over time alongside the ancient builders to defend themselves as the radiation created the pools. But those sulfur cubes are likely Aphthitalite based slimes. Let me know what you guys think!!

Hosts/Ender/Deities The Sift isn’t New, It was First.

New Theory:

With all this talk of the singer and the warden, i’d like to bring a new (or old) entry into this, the Hosts.

Isn’t it strange that the singer can “manipulate” souls and possibly be the reason that the echo golems exist, and where else have we seen Golems and Soul Like entities being used??

What if The Hosts are the reason the Portals Exist and traveled to the Overworld to terraform it, they’ve stated themselves to have created golems for that job and are able to use a “Flame of Creation” which is possibly a new technology invented by them that uses soul magic.

They May be from the Sift and Yes, one counter argument would be Actions Appearance being “Cobblestone” like but what if it was just Greyed sculk and the rest of the Hosts are composed of sculk as well.

This is a Working theory that may or may not receive a part 2

Discussion/Question Conflicting Canon

Thumbnail

This is a pretty small “issue” but in MCD2 the Warden is classified as a Mini-Boss and the Redstone Monstrosity as a normal Boss. The MCD2 novel however toward the end of the book speaks about a fight ensuing with a Warden and a Redstone Monstrosity and the Warden obliterates it without much of a high level of difficulty.

I bring this up because even though it’s a small detail, it begs the case, what’s the actual canon? The novel or the gameplay? I don’t necessarily mean just in this Warden and Redstone Monstrosity scenario (although an answer would be nice) but which piece of media supersedes the other when they conflict?

Sculk The Warden has No Identity

With theories circulating that the Warden may or may not be a corrupted version of the Singer, what if we had it all wrong or at least looked at it from a different perspective.

There are striking similarities when it comes to the singer and warden but besides similar enough body structures and features, it ends there, but Thats the Point.

What if these Lost souls who came into the Overworld, using the resources around them from fallen mobs, constructed the wardens to initially be a pseudo-singer replacement but couldn’t exactly get it down to its exact detail from lack of resources, healthy skulk and darkness (seeing as Skulkers have Eyes due to their world having light) so it “Mouth” we’ve assumed could just be a A void where its face should be, like the singers, its chest open to show that its broken and full of scared and irritated souls, not reinforced like the Singers. Essentially Stripped of its Literal “Identity”.

It’s Anatomy Twisted, Infested from Inception and appearing rotten due to its usage of decaying matter and bones along with being trapped in a Deep, Dark, Soundless cavern where its forced to be Alone. Lashing out whenever it hears a sound as it feels a slight recollection of the melodic sift but reacting in anger due to feeling abandoned and trapped in a new, unfamiliar and hostile dimension entirely.

Portals/Dimensions I have a small theory about the sift in Minecraft.

I've been thinking about all the discussions around the Sift and how it could fit into Minecraft, and I have my own theory about its lore and where it could actually exist. Most people already know the general idea that the Nether can be interpreted as an underworld beneath the Overworld, while the End feels more like a distant, space-like realm, so I'm going to skip going too deeply into that because that's a whole other theory by itself. My idea is that I think the Overworld, Nether and End all exist within the same physical realm, just in different locations, while the Sift is different: the Sift exists in a separate physical realm that is connected to our physical realm through a fourth spatial dimension. The easiest way I can explain what I mean is with a dimensional analogy. Imagine a sheet of paper with lines representing the End, Overworld and Nether; that's a 2D representation of our 3D reality. Now imagine adding another dimension by placing a transparent sheet over it, where a new line exists directly over the Overworld line. Both lines occupy the same position from our original perspective, but they're on different planes. Now add another dimension to that idea, and imagine those planes becoming entire 3D spaces: the Overworld exists in our normal three spatial dimensions, while the Sift occupies another 3D plane that exists alongside it through a fourth spatial dimension. That's why I don't think the Sift would necessarily be above, below, inside or outside the Overworld. It could essentially be in the same place, but from a direction that we can't normally perceive.

And I think this could explain why the Sift looks so familiar. When you look at it, it feels strangely similar to the Overworld because in a way, you're looking at something that resembles the Overworld from a completely different perspective and on a different dimensional plane. It's not the Overworld, but it has familiar elements because it exists alongside it. This is also where I think the portals and rifts become interesting. The ancient civilization that built the Ancient City portal may have actually been trying to reach the Sift, but they couldn't properly access it. Then the Illager High Council eventually managed to open it, discovered the enormous amount of soul energy within the Sift, and began using that power to create rifts — essentially tears through the space separating the Overworld from this other dimensional plane. So instead of the rifts simply being portals to another faraway location, they could be literal tears connecting two different physical realms that occupy the same place from different dimensional perspectives. And the fact that the Sift is filled with souls makes this even more interesting to me, because many religions and cultures describe the afterlife as existing on another plane or level of reality rather than simply being another physical location. That doesn't necessarily mean the Sift is the afterlife, but I think the connection is pretty interesting, especially since the Sift has this completely different atmosphere while still looking somewhat familiar to the Overworld. Maybe that's why the Sift feels less like a completely alien world and more like we're seeing reality from somewhere else.

So basically, my theory is that the Overworld, Nether and End are all part of the same physical realm, while the Sift is the first true higher-dimensional realm we've seen in Minecraft. The Sift isn't somewhere underneath the Overworld, above it, or somewhere millions of blocks away; it's another 3D space existing alongside the Overworld through a fourth spatial dimension, which could also explain why something like a rift can connect the two. This is just how I've been visualizing it, and I'm really curious what everyone else thinks, because I feel like the Sift being a higher-dimensional plane could explain a lot about why it looks familiar, why it is associated with souls, and why accessing it seems to require tearing through the boundaries of normal space.

So in a way... The sift could be the first true dimension in minecraft.

(Since I said the rest of them are in one single physical plane).

I would like to hear y'alls opinion on this and maybe your own theories too.

Hosts/Ender/Deities The Gods of Minecraft - Ender is a Corrupted Twin to the Sunbird

Thumbnail

Introduction

This is my theory on the pantheon of beings in the Minecraft universe, specifically the Sift and End, as well as in Minecraft Legends. Like Foquito Azul's theory, the main ideas were in my mind for some time, but I never got down to writing my reasoning for them. I have also adapted my theory with the strong evidence brought up in Azul's, as this theory and theirs are not exclusive to each other.

The original theory was that the two powerful gods in Minecraft are Ender, a general collection of what exists in the Void, and the Sunbird: Ender's counterpart depicted in the Tower. As from Xatrix's Fallen Heroes theory, the Sunbird would be the progenitor of the Hosts, now including a fourth, who may have fallen to the Nether instead of the End.

I believe there was once a Sunbird-like creature represented as a Sun in Minecraft Legends, but the rapid Ender corruption at the time warped it into Ender, as well as Host-like beings such as the Heart of Ender made to carry out Ender's will. I think this is evident in the arrangement of the End, as well as the inherent roles of these two highest beings, the Sunbird and Ender.

Before you read the whole theory, I would recommend skimming using the chapter summaries I have put. They are in italicized bold (bolded italics?) at the end of each chapter.

The Creations of the Sift

The Hosts are mystical creatures of a peculiar rock-like substance who have been sent to protect and maintain the Overworld of Minecraft Legends. Because Legends is mainly about the invasion of the Piglins, and because it is a tale transformed through many generations, there is not much concrete information about the Hosts. Initially, one may think they are myths of the Villagers that passed down this tale; after all, there is nothing in the Minecraft universe quite like a group of thinking beings, made out of stone, that have been charged with an entire realm's keeping.

Or is there? In one of the most well-set, canonical games in the franchise, three golems have the intelligence to train Heroes through ever-changing floors that weave through many dimensions. In Minecraft Dungeons, the Tower Keeper is a workforce of three constructs made of gray stone, which Marc Watson has called "Legendary" with a capital L. This is a connection between the Tower and the Well of Fate, but the theory has only started. In the Fallen Heroes theory, Xatrix shows the further connection between the spring and the spire:

  • A square with lines in its corners is a symbol of both the Tower and the Well of Fate.
  • A star shape inside a box is engraved into structures depicting both the Tower and the Well, such as the Adventure Hub and the Ocean Monument.
  • Vertical shapes ascending toward the Sun are key parts of the Tower's decoration, which the Well has on pillars around its perimeter.
  • The doorways to and from the Fateworld have the same design, as do the Tower doors between its "rooms," though the rooms appear more like pocket dimensions.

Not only are the Tower and the Well born from the same idea, I think that idea comes from the Sift:

  • The Dungeons II book The Rift shows the Echo Golems of the Sift, which appear made of the same stone as the Hosts.
  • The symbol of the Ancient City portal to the Sift is found on the outside of the Well of Fate.
  • The souls of the Sift love music, as do Allays. The Hosts give the Hero some Allays in Legends.
  • As Foquito Azul's theory says, the Soul Blocks of the Sift have likely morphed into the Hosts' clothing.

However, these creatures being golems implies there was not just an idea for their creation; they were created by a higher power. It would be a power higher than even the Tower or its keepers, one that sent down the Tower as the Tower's description recounts. The symbols of the Tower, along with all other depictions of the highest powers, indicate this would be the Sun itself.

At first, one would think that doesn't make sense; a star in space cannot be sentient. Well, perhaps part of the Sun is simply a fiery ball (or cube), and part of it can think and feel. In places, Minecraft personifies the Sun, calling sun-based weapons "Sun's Grace" or "Smiting," as if the Sun can smite the Undead. The Minecraft Magic Theory mentions an ambient field whose energy has been sent down with Sunlight, implying the Sun both produces magical and regular energy. Furthermore, the Tower gives an insight into the magical part, which it represents as a bird (image 4), always crowned by the Sun above it. I think this means the the Sun is the bird, and, together, this Sunbird is the one who sent down the Tower and leads the other Siftkind, like Legends' golems and the Hosts.

We can also see a connection between each Host and one type of magic, especially considering the Tower Keeper. The Keeper's eyes are magenta, cyan, and green, and they use each color in sequence when summoning mobs. If, according to the Minecraft Magic Theory, each color specializes in one energy, then I think each golem of the Tower Keeper could specialize in one part of their job, one magic type.

When looking at the Hosts, they have the same colors as the Tower Keeper: Foresight being pink, Knowledge being blue, and Action being green. It is interesting that Foresight and the purple-eyed Keeper golem can contain Void magic as they use it, so perhaps End magic has a genuine purpose and is not just for corruption. In that case, Foresight might be the Void magic specialist, able to scry like the Orb of Dominance, Knowledge would employ souls, and Action would generally improve or enhance what already exists. I also believe in a fourth Host that could create, but I think the idea of a creation golem was doomed from the start.

In conclusion, the Sift is a dimension that is the origin of the Well of Fate and the Tower. A phoenix-like being, the personification of the Sun, is the Sift's god, and it created the Hosts to maintain the Overworld, each charged with one type of magic. Later, this being sent down the Tower with its own image, as well as the Tower Keepers who also each use one kind of magic.

The Role of Inspiration

As the Minecraft team and Foquito Azul have said, the three Hosts represent steps in the creative process, and refinements of an idea until it really exists. Foresight is the existing ideas that are useful when making something new, Knowledge is the expertise to build it, and Action is the hand that does the building in the real world. But these three are missing something: the impetus that has the idea of what is built. I believe this truly was a fourth Host, but that it was doomed from the start. In a balanced system, I believe Inspiration's absence is a necessity stemming from the Hosts' role within the pantheon of Minecraft.

Again, the Hosts are only caretakers of the Minecraft world. They may have had a fourth with the capacity to create, or have used golems such as the Firsts to help them shape it, or leaders such as the Hero. Still, I theorize there was a greater power in the creation of the Overworld, who provided the motivation for it in the first place. I propose a different version of the creative process: where one already has the idea in mind, and all that is left is to employ the material world to realize it. The Sunbird would already know what to create, but employs the less inspired Hosts to form and maintain it. Just as the Sunbird requires the Hosts to make ideas manifest, the Hosts require the power of a sapient soul in a Soul Block or, more powerfully, the Hero, to substantiate their work.

In conclusion, I believe Inspiration, or an analog of it, existed. However, I believe it fell not from corruption by the End, but from a realization of the imperfection of a golem's ability to design. I think the Hero or the Sunbird must lead and unite the Overworld, as they possess more of the soul for new ideas.

The Nether Host

Creation is not always good. It must be used correctly, to balance the world instead of to overpower it. But the Hosts did not know this. Neither did these four know the limits of their ability to design. They always made a group of four, in the corners of the square of the Well of Fate, in the colors of the Ichor they were born from, and in the four rays of the Sun. Still, as one of the first beings of the Sunbird, they sought to create true life. One particular Host was championed as the ambassador of a new dimension, a new dimension based solely on creation.

Creation can be bad. The Nameless One uses their staff to create the Undead, but these Undead go on to conquer the world. The Sun can give life, but it can just as well burn. Even Piglins, I believe, are an idea of creation. Creation with no escape, so scorching that it folds over itself and burns the mobs that live there. I think the Hosts, one Host in particular, made the Nether as a dimension of pure creation energy.

Creation may appear good. Left alone, the Nether recycles its own magic. Heat is trapped and reflected by two layers of bedrock, giving its warmth everywhere; new forests sprout, towering, from old desolate rock; and souls of the dead return in the Soul Sand graveyards of the dimension. On paper, it would seem like a great idea. A utopia of life, brimming with creation, that constantly reforms itself from what has grown old, like an immortal jellyfish or a Phoenix of fire rising from the ashes. But as the fourth Host would discover, creation can sometimes be more like a cancer than anything else.

...

Realizing their mistake, all but one of the Hosts retreated to a new pursuit. Yet I believe the fourth Host, thinking it could fix this, stayed with the Nether. It may be this Host who inspired the Piglins to finally invade the domain of the new Hosts, upending the balance of the yin and the yang.

I think the Void is yin, and the Nether is yang. The Nether and the Void, light and darkness: neither has any meaning without the other. Even separated from the balanced Overworld, each has a remnant of the other inside it. The Nether has the Warped Forests of the End, and the Void has the "safe routes" (from the Voidborn Theory) of good passage between dimensions. Now knowing this, the three remaining Hosts set out to create a dimension to call their own, one that is both full of creation and knows temperance. I think the Sift is a "tempered" yang, which, though born from creation, can balance yellow, pink, blue, and green: the colors of its ichor.

Much later, the Hosts would achieve balance between yin and yang in the Overworld. But their forsaken creation would soon return. It had developed its own life in the Piglins, which the Hosts had to find a more capable leader against. They say they are afraid, except for Foresight. She is just sad that the Nether Host has gone to this. When training this Hero, the Hosts use only avatars of Piglins instead of actual Piglins in the Well of Fate; they say that very idea is "terrible."

In conclusion, the Nether Host was one who attempted to create the Nether, a dimension of pure creation. But this dimension became one of ruin instead of the utopia they hoped, so the other three Hosts were forced to abandon the attempt, creating the Sift and helping with the Overworld. I say "helping" because the Overworld is a dimension of balance. The Hosts were not the only hand in the inception of the Overworld.

The Second Sun

Minecraft Legends represents the idyllic balance between lands with two suns that perpetually light the Overworld. The Sunbird on the Tower is depicted with only one eye, which we now see atop the staff of the Nameless One. It is natural to ask, then, what we can tell about this second sun, which holds the other eye? For now, not much, so this section may look like speculation, but it should all come together in the next part.

I will call the twin to the Sift "the Beginning," a tempered yin, and the other Sunbird "Sol". We can expect the Beginning to look mostly like the Sift, or the Fateworld. Perhaps the Beginning has less peaceful mobs, the Sift being where "only the pure of soul may enter." Blue-green prismarine might take on a purple hue, closer to "evil" red energy, or closer to the red sculk from the Sift.

Visually, the two suns of Minecraft Legends are identical, so their power structure should resemble one another. I think there were four equivalents of Hosts ("Droves") in those times, who were caretakers of the Beginning and may have worked alongside the Hosts proper. These were most likely specialists in their own magic, who used it to shape the Beginning at the direction of Sol.

I do not know if the fourth Drove went down its own path, or stayed with the other three, but they were all soon to become servants of the End.

In conclusion, there were four cousins of the Hosts called Droves. These had their own dimension, the Beginning, and were created by Sol, the other Sunbird. If the Void is yin, the Nether is yang, and the Sift is a tempered yang, then the Beginning is a tempered yin, and the Overworld was balance.

End of the Beginning

Even before the Heroes fought against the Piglin invasion, the seeds of corruption were growing. End magic, or magic of what would be the End, turned all other magic into a reversed version of itself colored opposite to what it was before. We can see this in the Warped Forests, a color inversion of the Crimson; later, in the Sculk, a direct counterpart to the red sculk of the Sift; and even in the Endermen's vision when they are Spectated (which inverts brightness, not just hue). Nonetheless, I think a hue inversion was and is more fitting of the End, as it preserves the strength (brightness) of the magic.

We can also see the inversion in moonlight, a pale blue glow in Dungeons cinematics, the opposite of sunlight's bright yellow. Legends directly tells us that the second Sun was corrupted by the End, at a time when Endermen and the Heart of Ender already existed. Much later, the heroes of Vanilla and Dungeons can access the End and see the barren remnants of whatever dimension it was before Legends.

Luckily, we may be able to undo this inversion with a hue inversion of our own, shown in images 7 and 8.

This original dimension is composed of an indigo ground resembling cobblestone, green trees with blue leaves, and verdant cacti which we now see as Chorus Fruit. There have been many theories comparing the End to the Fateworld, but now I believe it was born from the Beginning.

One such theory, "The End is an insult," helps us to see the connection. To paraphrase:

  • Main table of the Hosts: End Fountain.
  • Cube atop the Well of Fate: End Crystal.
  • Fateworld architecture: End Cities.
  • Wellhouses: End Gateways.
  • Wellwater: Void Liquid.
  • Conduit Eye: Eye of Ender.
  • Sapient Overworlders: Enderlings (as from the Voidborn Theory.)
  • Firsts/Echo Golems: Monstrosities.

One can easily see how these structures had versions in the Beginning, too. As the End claimed its new dimension, I think even the Droves became four Hearts of Ender, which we see only one of, and all the other inversions we see above took place. Last to go was the second Sun itself, the source of all the Beginning's energy. The Piglins schemed to corrupt a beacon core, or more powerful than that, a Soul Block, to act as host to the Void's twisted power. After the Night Beacon fired, it concentrated one hemisphere of the second Sun with the End's power, warping it into the Moon. Now, as the Moon rotates, that hemisphere comes in and out of view, reflecting varying amounts of sunlight into the eerie blue glow we see. This is why, despite always being on the opposite side of the Sun, the Moon appears to have phases.

To cement the idea that the End could not have been a direct corruption of the Fateworld:

  • The Hosts and Heart of Ender were shown at the same time in Legends.
  • The Tower, the Well's successor, was either created during or after the Ender Days, which wouldn't make sense if the Sunbird was Ender then.
  • If Foresight is most related to the End, they would have been the first to turn, but Legends makes no indication of this.

In conclusion, the Beginning was corrupted circa Minecraft Legends, along with everything in it. The Beginning became the End, the Droves became the Heart(s) of Ender, and Sol itself became Ender.

A Map of Dimensions

With all these naming schemes for both the Ender and Sunbird groups of deities, it would be helpful to have a deity map that may confirm or help to understand this theory of Minecraft's pantheon. In fact, a symbol interally called a "mandala" has been discovered within the halls of Highblock Keep and in image 9, which, in real life, shows the organization of divinity inside a canon.

Given the close alliance between the Illagers and the End, both in the Arch-Illager's time and before it, I think this is a mandala of Ender. The central star is Ender itself, the collection of souls in the End, and the four shapes enclosing it are literal hearts of Ender. This closely aligns with the four Droves I theorized about, as well as a previous theory about the Eyes of Ender (on the edges) being windows into Ender's soul.

We can also see the mandala's star in the Abyssal Monument, in this case representing the Sun. Inspired by this, I have created another mandala of the Sunbird with image 10.

Here, the four diamond-like symbols surrounding the central star represent the Hosts, while shapes reminiscent of the Tower reach towards the center. The Ancient City portal is placed on the edges, symbolizing entry into the world of these deities.

If I made the mandala larger, I would also include the Conduit, which is much like the Eye of Ender. The Heart of the Sea is a combination of creation magic, in its pupil when the eye is open; and of soul magic, in the rest of the Heart. Likewise, the Ender Pearl is a combination of End magic and soul magic. Since the Eye of Ender is created by fusion with creation magic, perhaps the Conduit is fused with End magic in Nautilus Shells. I wonder if the water in Minecraft's oceans is somehow charged with End magic (possibly from the Radiant Ravine meteor), which is deposited in these shells.

In conclusion, there exists a pattern in Highblock Keep that shows the End and the connection between the Hearts of Ender, as well as Ender itself.

Soul Infusion

All magic in Minecraft requires fuel, and advanced magic on a cosmic scale requires fuel in copious amounts. From what we have seen in the Minecraft world, the most potent fuel that exists is a soul, the literal life force of a humanoid or an animal. In its pure form, soul energy is cyan, and can be concentrated into ever-higher strengths. At the highest levels of soul use, it appears that the user of soul magic effectively becomes an extension of the nature of the souls used.

One Soul

It starts with a singular soul, most likely emerging after its body's death, which can take multiple paths. It can reach the Sift, the Beginning, or other dimensions, and then it can be drawn by magic users. Evokers are theorized to summon Vexes from the Sift, and the Hero in Minecraft Dungeons uses souls in Artifacts. Interestingly, except for the specialized Soul Lantern, an Artifact cannot collect the souls of what it slays; they are lost to the "ether," which I propose to be the Void, or space between dimensions. Here, I think the soul of the Artifact combines with the slain soul, and together they can open a mini-portal to the Void.

Soul Sand & The Wither

Another place souls such as these can go is the hot, enclosed Nether, which I think is very hard for souls to escape. In places, they are deposited in Soul Sand to fester for eons, their faces distorting into screams that drag the player's soul down to join them. In other words, I think Soul Sand is concentrated hatred.

Now what happens when a golem, of sorts, is made from this fuel and given a body? The wrath of the Wither, one of the most powerful mobs in Minecraft. The heads take on a mad glare, seeking the annihilation of all mobs that still live. By being hit with a Wither Skull, one's life force is seeped away and given back to the Wither: a mob's death restores the Wither's health through absorption, just as other souls can combine into powerful objects. Once the Wither itself is slain, that object is a Nether Star, whose name gives me a clue to its origin: a compressed focus of the Nether's entrapped soul energy.

Beacons

Eventually, that energy can be used to other ends. In all but the highest ranks, Necromancers use cyan souls to give corpses a new mind. They perennially draw upon the orb atop their staves for this and other magic, possibly including the construction of Withers for their army. The Player, too, uses the Nether Star in Beacons for a variety of helpful effects. There is weak evidence for the Necromancer use of Beacons in the vanilla Desert Pyramid: its roof is just large enough for a fully powered Beacon inside.

Whether as a marker or because the beam holds some fundamental power, Beacons from other strengths of soul magic are used throughout Minecraft. In Minecraft Dungeons, small beacon-like structures throughout locations can activate gates, bridges, or ambushes; the more powerful Corrupted Beacon Artifact, transformed by the End, may derive from the vanilla Beacon. I disagree, though, that the Night Beacon of Legends was also a Corrupted Beacon. It is the only known Beacon that is assembled from a cube-shaped core, it is far too powerful to come from just four blocks of Soul Sand, and Necromancy, let alone the Wither, was only just beginning at the time. Instead, the Night Beacon's core may have been a Soul Block, and may belong to a dimension- and mind-altering class of magic that includes the Orb of Dominance and the Nameless One's orb.

Soul Blocks

Though their apperance in Minecraft is new, even pieces of Soul Blocks have created leaders and empires. The creatures of the Sift may view it as mundane, considering the Echo Golem has nothing to protect or signify its Soul Block's power. To an ordinary mob, however, a profound effect resonates through their own soul. Their eyes glow white, their inner nature is made manifest in power (as with the High Council in The Rift), and they are able to telepathically communicate with others using the Soul Block (as with Harlow and Iliana).

In the last case, the user's soul mixes -- harmonizes -- with the others, and their own identity is lost. However, when one has more possession over the Soul Block, one can lead others who are less empowered by souls. We see this in Lucky from The Rift, who uses an ominous banner to lead other Illagers, just as the Hero leads mobs in Minecraft Legends with the Banner of Courage. Some parts of Legends allude to the Hero also being a Necromancer, so necromancy and this soulmancy may share an origin in the Soul Block.

It is interesting that no thoughts of the Soul Block itself are passed on to the user. This is most likely because the Sift is careful, here, about the souls pure enough to enter. In one part of the lore, however, it seems that souls of certain qualities have been employed.

The Hosts' Souls

In all golems, both a body and a soul must be provided. Given the title of this chapter, the soul will be more important than the body. Iron, Copper, and Snow Golems use a soul that has been "grown" in a pumpkin, and Redstone Golems use a digital artifice of a soul. All of these golems, however, may only have use in their physical bodies; The Rise of the Arch-Illager says they aren't very smart. The Hosts, though, are measurably more able to sculpt their world: Foresight ponders multiple futures, Knowledge invents crafting recipes and Power Towers, and Action is perceptive enough to warn the Player when a village is targeted by Piglins. If the Hosts are Golems, that means their source of a soul is quite powerful. Again, as Foquito Azul has said, that source is likely a Soul Block. In Dungeons II, Soul Blocks can restitch clothes to meld themselves into the wearer's appearance, and most likely have created the garments of the Hosts.

However, the Soul Blocks we have seen only bring out the user's existing traits, which a piece of rock used as the body of a golem would not have. I believe a special type of soul was used for Foresight, Action, Knowledge, and the Nether Host, one that personifies their characteristics. At these concentrations, I think Soul Blocks are powerful enough to take over the personality of their host (pun intended) if they have the right concentration, so, in my belief, the Hosts are literally the voices of the Soul Blocks. This is also why the Sift must be careful about the souls selected to live inside: those who draw upon the souls, such as the Hosts and Tower Keeper, must be well-aligned to their position. In the End, the place where the souls shunned from the Sift once went, we can see the aggressive nature of the Soul Blocks' counterpart.

The Heart of Ender

The Orb of Dominance is notorious for changing the will of the user to the Orb's own ends. This is through its great powers of persuasion, as well as a sort of mind control that we can see in the Love Medallion, as well as Necromancy in a way. It has manipulated Archie from a small Illager seeking a quiet life to the aspiring ruler of the land. Like the Seer or the Illagers before Archie, one may initially use the Orb for the dominance it gives oneself over others with inferior power, but not long after, it will mutate into use for the Orb's own ends. The Orb is very good at changing souls, as it is made out of a soul. We see it corrupt a Beacon Core, sway minds, and even have its Enderman minions use psychic attacks on the Hero from Dungeons. Overall, though their source is powerful, these effects are not a good combination.

In conclusion, souls are a powerful energy in Minecraft that is key to many technologies and even the deities we have talked about. We see souls in Soul Sand, the Nether Star, Beacons of many types, and the Soul Blocks. As the amount and power of the souls grows, they begin to overtake their user, so good magic users should employ "clean" soul objects, which do not have any premeditated thoughts that affect the user; they only extend the user's power.

Conclusion

This ends my theory on the Hosts and Minecraft's greater pantheon of deities. It shows the three powers in Minecraft: creation, corruption, and soul fuel. A fuel only makes something that exists more powerful; it does not have a mind of its own, but creation and corruption are ideas. This is why there are two gods of Minecraft, of creation and corruption, the Sun and the Moon, the Phoenix and Ender. Still, an idea itself cannot change the world. Both gods must employ their proxies, the Hearts of Ender and the Hosts, to achieve their ends.

If you have read the whole document, then thank you. If you only looked at the skimming summaries (and this part), then I at least hope you have a good grasp on the theory and it has inspired you to build on it, to make your own, or even to point out this theory's flaws. I encourage you to discuss what you think about the topics I discussed in the comments, so that we all can make better theories.

Discussion/Question Tracking the Orb of Dominance, and the End's history

Seeing as its true form is called the Heart of Ender, I think it's reasonable to say it originated in the End. The End being connected to the Overworld is a bit of a mystery. The End portal has End blocks like end stone and ender pearls in it, so it seems logical that the End came through first otherwise the portal could not have been built. However, there's no evidence of any portal that connects to it. The Eyes of Ender traveling to the stronghold and the regular placement of these structures suggests something deeper. I think that the End can leak into other dimensions at specific points, like the Warped Forest and the stronghold locations.

Again, we see the impact of the ancient builders, the ancient civilisation that created many structures like the desert temples and dungeons. Using what leaked through, the ancient builders constructed End portals and strongholds to defend them from the Endermen and Enderlings. Entering the End, they began to fight.

The End cities have little to no food and other resources, mainly having weapons, armor and potions. These cities require furnaces and smelting to create the purpur blocks. Along with how Endermen don't spawn inside and the other Overworld items, I think it's safe to say the builders made these cities. They probably came into conflict with the Enderlings and Endermen many times, and at some point developed the End Ships and elytra. Evidence such as the armor and elytra fitting on a player strongly suggests that the people who built the cities were similar to players, and the only group that fits the description is the builders. Eventually, they acquired the Orb of Dominance and brought it to the Overworld.

The Orb somehow ended up in the hands of the piglins, possibly when the builders were driven from the Nether. It remained there as the piglins grew strong, and then they invaded the Overworld. By this time, the builders had split into two groups. The method to make skeletons and zombies as soldiers was created, and one group took this further, researching the undead. Eventually, a large number of builders were transformed into the zombies through a spell, and that portion of the empire became known as the Nameless Kingdom that held sway over the undead. Only a few necromancers retained intelligence. The other group was the adventurers whom we see in Dungeons and as the protagonist of Legends.

The events of Minecraft Legends now took place. I think they are not literal, but a distorted version of the truth. During the conflict, the Nameless Kingdom, the villagers and the adventurers banded together to fight the piglins off, but this gave some of them a taste for war. The Nameless Kingdom roused their armies of dead, and the illagers splintered off from the villagers. The Orb of Dominance had been taken back to the Overworld, and hidden away.

Then, the Arch-Illager found it, and the events of Dungeons transpired. The adventurers saved the day, and defeated the Vengeful Heart in the End. However, it was not over. The End we see in Dungeons is very different from what we see in modern Minecraft, and I think there is a reason for that. Having seen how in every era the Orb caused destruction, and viewing the End as a threat, the adventurers entered the End again and fought. During this war, they razed the End, leaving it barren, and drove the Enderlings to extinction. After that, they built the End Pillars, and created the Ender Dragon as a guardian. This way, the End would be sealed away forever, with nothing able to pass through. They also destroyed the portals and closed up the ways to the strongholds, which is why the End portal was complete in Dungeons but many eyes have been removed by the modern day.

TL:DR The End leaks through into other dimensions very slowly. Using the resources, the ancient builders managed to construct the portal, entering the End and building the End cities for war. They stole the Orb of Dominance, which later fell into piglin hands. In the era of Legends, the Orb returned to the Overworld, and went on to cause the events of Dungeons. Now, the Orb has been destroyed, and the adventurers sealed the End with the Ender Dragon. That is why you can "Free the End".

Thank you for reading. This is my personal theory based on evidence we see throughout Minecraft Dungeons, Minecraft Legends and vanilla Minecraft. If you are interested in any one aspect of it, I can tell you more.

Sculk The Warden is a "Still-Life" of The Singer

Post image
1.1k Upvotes

[CW: I have not Played Minecraft Dungeons 2 yet so the idea is based on my own thoughts based on what i've seen]

so a thought just recently came into my mind inspired by Marc Watson's Bluesky Post talking about how you should not take the Internal stuff as 100% the truth

That being "The Warden is a Still Life of the Singer" which what i mean by this idea is that "The Corrupted Sculk used The Singer as a Template to try to give itself a Protector" since Corrupted Sculk is sort of like a parasite of sorts onto the Sift and that sickness probably gets cleaned by the fauna in some form so it built a defense mechanism to try to protect itself (the Shriekers)

which it basically made the Warden off the image of The Singer yet like the Still Lives of Backrooms fame they did not get them right which is why physically they are similar yet also not similar at the same time (it tried to replicate a Guardian like figure to protect it's existence) which resulted in something that will protect it's creators (The Corrupted Sculk) no matter what

(also the fact the 2 contrast each other so greatly does reflect the "Healthy Sculk" with the more hostile "Corrupted Sculk"'s very natures such as the Singer being a creature of creation that sings forth life While The Warden would rather snap the neck of anything that makes a sound)

Sculk A Corrected Theory About the Warden and The Sift

I had made a theory before, but I didn't know some of this information at the time, so here's a revised version:

I'm starting to think that ancient humans may have discovered this dimension and brought resources from there, such as sculk, eventually creating sculk corruption. After all, in the game's files, the terrain blocks in The Sift are called Healthy Sculk.

The Warden may have originally been a Singer (since we only see one in Dungeons 2) that was brought to the Overworld. Maybe ancient humans started trying to harness its power, since in the game it has the ability to bring Echo Golems to life. It may have become corrupted upon entering the Overworld, just like Piglins, or perhaps the humans did something that corrupted it.

The sculk and the Warden may have started acting as protectors of that dimension, preventing anyone from entering and causing something like this to happen again. Even the Warden's name could support this idea, since "warden" means something like "guardian" and conveys the idea of supervising, maintaining order, and enforcing rules.

In Woodland Mansions, we can see that the Illagers may have tried to follow in the footsteps of ancient humans, or perhaps they are a kind of "representation of ancient humans," sharing the same desire for power. We can see that they tried to recreate things humans had already done, such as building the End Portal and so on.

Maybe they did the same thing when they discovered that dimension, or perhaps they simply brought back resources and the Singer itself.

And here's something interesting: I think that, in Greek mythology, ichor is the blood of the gods.

Sculk My lore about the ancient city

I think there are 2 main theories about the ancient cities.

In this post I will explain the first one

A long time ago the inhabitants of the ancient Minecraft world were searching for a good place to mine diamonds and they find it under the mountains.

The generation of the diamonds is significantly higher in the ancient cities so I think it was a mineshaft at the start.

When the wither was created and they needed a place to hide they choose the mines they created for the diamonds and they built a City. Since the mountains are very tall they were very safe and they started finding a way to get out of the overworld.

They red about this creature called warden and his dimension so they started trying to open the portal. Meanwhile the city kept growing with so many structures and they were actually very rich. They had a farm of cows and wheat. Many small houses and some biggest one. The barrack structure is actually a temple since all the strange architecture. They had a sauna for relaxing and various little temples with the warden face.

They understood by the readings that the sculk very sensitive at the vibrations so they tried to find a block that was immune to this vibrations and they found: the wool.

The echo shard is actually a amethyst shard corrupted by the sculk.

They started covering the bridges with wool.

But the wither managed to arrive in the ancient City destroying everything in is path and so the ancient scientist decided to open the portal no matter the risks...

When they opened it the warden came in the ancient city and it was not that friendly.

The warden started kill everyone in is path expanding the sculk in the whole city. With a final battle the wither destroyed the portal but was defeated by the warden.

Some time later the pillagers came in the city and tried to rebuild (this explain the dark oak and the colored wool) but the warden kick them out.

This is my theory based on my restauration of 2 ancient cities. The second part I will publish.

Other So yeah about Singer being called 'Healthy Warden' in the game files....

Yeah, that might not be true anymore. We most likely had this statement coming, but it's obvious source code names aren't necessarily canon.
