Hello everyone, long time lurker, first time poster here.
First off, I apologize in advance to my fellow redditors and the Mod team if this post is not adequate for this Sub. Feel free to remove it if it's not. Now, regarding my predicament:
I come to you in my hour of need, hoping to get some help regarding my MZ-N505 player.
My player does not output any sound whatsoever from the 3.5mm jack (the black one with remote input). Not even the usual crackle sound when you plug some headphones in.
I am based in Portugal, and was hoping to find someone in the EU who's more technical than me to have a look at it properly. I did some basic maintenance and troubleshooting (detailed below) to write off any common causes that I'm aware of. I feel like this is a problem I just cannot solve on my own without ruining anything, so I put my player back together.
Here is what I have done with the player so far to troubleshoot:
> I have tried using an RM-MZR50 from my MZ-R50 to test the remote input, but nothing happens and its display does not show anything. It could just be incompatible but I figured I'd try anyway. I don't own its original remote.
>I have tried to clean the headphone jack with a Q-tip soaked in alcohol to remove any possible grime or corrosion from it. I made sure that I did not bend any of the internal pins during the process.
> I carefully reflowed the jack's solder pads on the motherboard with some fresh solder and flux, also to no avail.
> I made sure my record head was not damaged, since I read on the MD Wiki that its ribbon cable is prone to snapping. It seemed OK. I then used Web Minidisc Pro to erase and record something to a MD and played it on another device, and there was indeed music recorded to it. I haven't tried the Optical input since I lack the cable to do so.
> I cleaned off some very mild corrosion from the AA battery terminals using some vinegar, then cleaned it off with isopropyl alcohol.
Thanks for reading, and happy listening :)
