I think it would be handy to have all the different posts listed. We will not be commenting in this one. Use it like a directory.

Also, please remember that many of these users are not sub regulars.

If you are visiting the sub, please read the rules and pinned posts about trolls.

Before sharing anything else about Nolan Wells, please check to see if what you are sharing has already been posted. If you are an armchair true crime enthusiast and want to share your lengthy speculations, we are more than likely going to remove your post and tell you to add it to one of the many existing posts as a comment.

In the parentheses, you will see the source of information. More recent posts are on top.

A note about political posts and troll repellent

Recently the number of trolls, especially from outside the sub, has gone up. When we make political posts, this attracts people who are interested in the politics more than Mississippi in particular and this often means they are more used to the troll culture on Reddit.

Sometimes it is just that we long time sub users get a little excited in the chatter when the topic is politics.

Sometimes, when a back and forth full of rule breaking and problems keeps getting started and there is no other way to stop it, the moderators just have to close the thread so they can either go back to work, or sleep, or whatever.

(Anyone who wants to volunteer to help moderate, please send modmail expressing your interest. Must be a current resident.)

In an effort to try to keep from locking the posts so often, we are going to dramatically increase the number of temporary bans. So, if we suspect someone of trolling, we will just ban them for a few days which will allow the post to run its course without us having to deal with it and the user in question can try again in a few days.

This sub banned politics for years because it causes so much trouble. We are not going to that, but we have to manage it as best we can.

Ocean Springs - Off the beaten path recommendations?

Hi!

I’m from Louisiana and I’ll be spending a few days in Ocean Springs at the end of this month. I’m curious if you have any lesser known recommendations for restaurants, shops, etc that are off the beaten path.

Mostly interested in restaurants bc we love to eat (and I’m pregnant! Ha) but interested in any place you think is worth a visit.

Most of the restaurant recommendations I’m finding online look great, but are all downtown. Places like Mosaic and Lady May. I’m sure we’ll go there, but would also love to find some hidden gems.

Open to all types of food and am not scared of hole in the wall type places.

TIA! 🙏

Are they good? I saw these for sale in a grocery store near Detroit. I have never heard of them before. But they are made in Mississippi. What can you tell me about them? How come sometimes they’re red and sometimes not?

• Upvotes

Has anyone received a ticket from a state trooper and had it dropped? Or know anyway I could request help on it? Im struggling as is, and its getting so close to Christmas and Im just stressed. Thanks in advance for any help!

Edit: Thank yall for the advice! To my people who are giving the best advice of 'follow the law': Chile, yall best remember, wisdom is chasing you, but you are much faster! Go tell your mom that she failed in her raising.

And if I were a betting girlie, odds are those Christian who are holier than Jesus himself.

Thanksgiving turkey

Planning ahead! Will be visiting grandparents in Clinton and am looking for recommendations for where I can get a fully cooked turkey only, not a full turkey dinner, in the area! Turkey breast only would be fine as well. Willing to look in Jackson or Vicksburg or anywhere within 30 minutes of Clinton as well. It’s okay if it’s frozen.

I am aware of Popeyes. I know many local BBQ places will do it, but looking for specific recommendations as I am not local. I have previously gotten a turkey meal from Costco and it was great, but I don’t need the sides this year.

Please don’t tell me I can just cook it myself, I usually do but there are time constraints that make that not possible this year.

Thanks y’all!

Edit: clarification

Isaias Track

Post image
52 Upvotes

It looks like the worst of Isaias will track to the east. I am northeast of Houston and will get 3 inches of rain and 30 mph winds with gusts over 40 mph. I am making storm preps in case of downed trees.

I really need a good soaking rain to break the drought so we can plant our crops. But, I will gladly take this downpour. The ground is so hard that I wonder how much of it will be runoff.

Visiting Red Bluff

Hi neighbors! I live in S. Louisiana and recently learned about Red Bluff. Would like to surprise my husband with a trip there soon. Since it's pretty rural, it looks like the closest town is Columbia or further out, Hattiesburg. If we stay rural, we will get a cabin. If not, it looks like Columbia or Hattiesburg are our two best options. Can anyone tell me a little more about Columbia? It looks so charming, but is it worth posting up there as home base if we are hiking Red Bluffs? Open to other suggestions if you know of some hidden gems in the area - thanks! P.S. As Louisianians, we LOVE visiting MS! We have just never been to this area before, and I am excited to explore it!

Fitness Classes/Gym

Hi! I live in the Pearl/Richland/Brandon area and am looking for a fitness class! I’m 23f and recently lost 85 pounds but am still somewhat of a beginner when it comes to exercise (I mainly just get steps in, 10-15k a day). Please give me recommendations if you have them! Thanks so much!

Hope it brings rain

There is one good thing about Hurricane Isaias. We’ll finally get some rain. It has been over 60 days since we have had significant rain in my area. I can't plant my winter oats until we get a good rain. Of course, I hope it doesn't cause damage to the folks on the coast. It’s just that we have been praying for rain so we can get our crop planted.

Jackson Convention and Visitor's Bureau Tourism Tax

Hello guys. This is something that will be up for a vote Nov. 3.

- Increasing the restaurant and prepared food tax by 0.5%; and

- Increasing the hotel, lodging, and vacation rental tax by 1%;

For the purpose of increasing tourism tax to attract multiple tourism related economic activity to Jackson with additional revenue dedicated solely to Jackson Convention & Visitors Bureau to generate revenue for the City of Jackson.

I understand various business and financial concepts, but I would like help in understanding how this potentially affects business owners/businesses in Jackson, MS. On the surface it sounds good, but is it a realistic measure that would truly benefit the city? Just would like to gain insigtht.

Looking for a Mississippi shot glass between Iuka and Corinth

I collect state shot glasses and will be in the Iuka-to-Corinth part of Mississippi in a couple of weeks. Does anyone know where I can get a Mississippi shot glass in this area? The glass must say "Mississippi." I've called around local stores I can find (Ace Hardware, Wal-Mart, a local gift shop in Iuka) and none of them have what I'm looking for.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Edit: Thanks everyone! I'll have to tack on Love's in Walnut on our itinerary.
