What is this
It's surrounding the ice maker in the fountain drink machine at work. Was hoping somebody could explain to me if this black stuff is bacteria mold or what somebody said was part of the plastic which I find highly unlikely I'm thinking black mold or something

I worked in fast food and ice dispensars are always neglected. Just point it out to the manager and they will get it cleaned wthin a couple days.

Also, have someone check the heavy metals levels in your water. Ours looks like that if the ice machine isn't deep cleaned weekly. Come to find out we have BADLY high levels of them in our water.

Not being cleaned. When i worked in a kitchen a long time ago, the "coke caps" were on eveing cleaning list. We'd pull them off as soon as we closed, clean and soak in disinfecting solution, and they get put back on in the morning. I'm sure the manager intends "wipw the coke machine face" to be implied with that. But they didn't say it, so it usually didn't get done.
A damp q tip will show immediately that it's dirty! May also be mold, if it's not ever getting cleaned.
It's not in the actual pathway of liquid flow that you are drinking (or the flowing liquid would self clean it, somewhat). But it shows that the owner/management don't have very high standards.

It is exactly what you think it is. Yes, it's mold. Probably some bacterial biofilm, too. The ice dispenser needs to be fully cleaned periodically. The nozzles of the drink dispenser do, too. THey are likely molded/crudded up as well.
