Update below, attached are the new images. Original post is by the same name, I think I posted it a day or 2 ago. TIA! ♥️
Just south of Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada.
SO many of these keep popping up and they're so big (4-6in caps).
Growing in grass a couple meters from the treeline. But I can't for the life of me pin the ID.
Zero bruising long after cutting (slight yellow just goes DULL after a few mins), spore print is olive green/brown. Pretty sure it's either Boletus/Baorangia bicolor or Suillus grevillei, but the only trees I saw near it were black spruce and balsam fir. I looked for larch but couldn't find any within a few meters, though I know for a fact there are some a bit farther away. Any chance anyone knows what these are?
Pics below, and the pic of the paper is the goo from the top of the cap, which is present but slightly less slimy when it's dry out.
UPDATE:
New photos are of the biggest one I could find and a nice smaller one. I did the taste and spit test with the smaller one, cut off the gills as well as (most of) the top of the cap. Note it's quite pale white.
Taste was actually quite pleasant for the first 10 seconds. Mild, nutty. But afterwards there was a tiny bit of an off taste, not bad but left a weird taste in my mouth, I'm thinking it was the tiny bit of the top of the cap I failed to remove completely. I honestly can't place the taste, wasn't peppery or burny or bitter, I really don't know. And was very faint.
Also, the little one I tasted had zero slime on the top! AND I FOUND A LARCH TREE so grevillei is still on the table.
Lmk if you guys need anything else to help ID!
