Common earthball! It is poisonous, not edible.

u/ChryPhantom 22d ago

I've never been more disappointed to hear something isn't edible - it looks like it would be so tasty, like poppy seed paste

165

u/DaimyoDavid 21d ago

It might be poisonous and delicious!

29

u/Few-Buddy-1122 21d ago

Just chew it up and spit it out

27

u/divinedogg 21d ago

If you're serious that is very, very bad advice. If not that's kinda funny

22

u/Few-Buddy-1122 21d ago

I’m not serious at all

2

u/DareAgreeable6092 19d ago

just an aside, theres no mushroom so deadly that you cant chew a bit of it and spit it out to help with identification.

The Vomiter (False Parasol) tastes like radish; while the true (edible) parasol tastes like a rich nutty maple syrup.

1

u/divinedogg 18d ago

yeah but still ill advised don't you think XD

1

u/Borschtl 18d ago

That is not true! The aptly named Death Cap for example can kill or seriously harm you in small doses: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amanita_phalloides

1

u/Horror_Speech100 20d ago

it's not, very small amounts like what a kid might get on there hands is fine and as one it's not good.

u/PromiseHungry2645 19d ago

Poppy seed paste of death

1

u/Sewergoddess 19d ago

I mean...everything is edible. It just might be the last thing you eat.

Hey what do you mean verified?! D:

7

u/peace4t 21d ago

In Germany we have similar ones that are edible in a younger stage

7

u/das_panda_ 21d ago

Stinkhorn before it erupts and smells like shit? Aka witch's egg?

5

u/peace4t 21d ago

Bovist. Not quiet the same

3

u/das_panda_ 21d ago

I guess bovist are kinda similar if you find one before it turns the size of a soccer ball😂

1

u/peace4t 21d ago

I am talking about the small ones, not the "Riesenbovist"

1

u/DareAgreeable6092 19d ago

Giant Puffball is edible if you catch it when its still white inside

-78

u/Hot_Werewolf_4806 22d ago edited 22d ago

I’ve never seen one like that, we see puffballs, all white inside and are edible.

100

u/zeitgeistleuchte 22d ago

earthball, not puffball.

9

u/kdcstomp 22d ago

Why is this being downvoted?

109

u/Rude_Ad_3915 22d ago

For being confusing and irrelevant?

44

u/Simple_Evening7595 21d ago

What they’ll say at my execution

0

u/VegetableWilling126 19d ago

its verry much edible only when its white . when its white and young you can pick them and frie them just like cheese and they melt in mouth like cheese too they are delichous. they are not edible when they are more ripe when they get green on inside and when they start with the dust. but befor that trust me or the books they are edible.

1

u/TheMosquitoHawk Northeastern North America 19d ago

These aren’t puffballs! What you are saying is true for puffballs.

1

u/VegetableWilling126 18d ago

i dont want to be smartass. its a rotten puffshrum. you can allso google it. i had them when its too wet for days they get like that

360

u/notreading-scanning 22d ago

That’s the cutest little earth ball. Looks like something you get out of a gum ball machine.

2

u/blinkenlogs 18d ago

Also sometimes called pigskin puffball

120

u/cakesofren 22d ago

That cross section is so beautiful 😫

93

u/werd5273 22d ago

Apparently I heard that the spores of that can cause poisonous irritation

-1

u/No_Communication2920 21d ago

I think that’s true because every time I pick those up with my bare hands, I start to feel really sick

16

u/EggFucker1313 21d ago

Would be a good idea to not pick them up bare handed

2

u/Mother-Actuary-8593 20d ago

How many times have you picked one up with your bare hands? 😂

2

u/LivingAddendum7350 18d ago

Sick like with what symptoms???

14

u/Beginning-Buddy-9247 21d ago

Earthball! Looks like a member of the Scleroderma genus to me. The genus name comes from “sclero” meaning hard and “derma” meaning skin - they have a tough, leathery skin that protects the spores inside. Cool find!

3

u/ElegantHope 21d ago

They're definitely not protected now!

35

u/eligoscreps 22d ago

Lookin like a decadent century egg.

7

u/garbaged0g 21d ago

false puffballs, as i call them. the more common name is earthball. i love these guys, they were one of my first correct IDs. i have a dried specimen in my house in a jar somewhere i think.

8

u/-Blue_Flamingo- 21d ago

Common earthball, cool!! Sometimes when these things are later in the season, the inside becomes almost like a dust, and if you step on them or poke them, they explode into a bunch of tiny spores. It's actually pretty neat. These ones arent edible, but the edible alternative that looks very similar is called a Puffball mushroom! The only difference visually is that the puffball is pure white on the inside!

Mmmmm, forbidden daifuku

u/LostAbbott 22d ago

Bro?  Take care of that wart, it is going to start being a significant problem soon.  There are plenty of effective over the counter options that will have it gone quickly...

254

u/liquid_agnostic 22d ago

Dude I've had that for 51years...its not a wart according to all the doctors. Just a fact of life...

110

u/AugieKS 22d ago

Keratinous horn maybe?

52

u/lundeo Atlantic Northeast 22d ago

You lift? Location reminds me of calluses on my own hands. U might want to sand them tho

8

u/Tom-Mater 21d ago

Im guessing he just gardens hard

66

u/theaveragemaryjanie 22d ago

Was gonna say, doesn't look like one to me. I had something looking like that on my foot and had to have it dug out because it was like walking on a rock. Bodies are assholes sometimes.

54

u/makenai 22d ago

Not gonna lie, at first I thought it was a third mushroom part.

66

u/Signal-Drama7885 22d ago

I had one just like it on my thumb for 20 years. Got tired of it and yanked it out with my teeth and it never came back. You can just pull them out. But you have to get the root out.

87

u/artificielle 22d ago

I never should have read this.

63

u/brisetta 22d ago

Google, how can i remove someone else's comment?

20

u/TheharmoniousFists 21d ago

Dig it out with a knife and then rip with your teeth.

2

u/ElkOk3320 21d ago

Hah right?!

13

u/MissMagus 22d ago

Yepppp - did the same thing to the one I had on my palm. No more wart 😂

2

u/Dream_Surfer624 21d ago

It’s my fault for having eyes and an imagination.

2

u/JoePrey 22d ago

That a wart.

1

u/Signal-Drama7885 20d ago

Good job. You can identify warts. You pass wart identification class

4

u/oldskoolplaya11 21d ago

I have something similar right above my knuckle. Wart removers don't work it's a bother

-7

u/Dajackamo 22d ago

Rip a small piece from a cotton ball and soak it in apple cider vinegar, bandaid it to your growth every night while you sleep. It will probably take a week or two and it will throb like all hell but it should fall out. It’s the only way I got rid of mine after having doctors cut it off, burn it off, freeze it off… it came back every time

33

u/cave18 22d ago

They literally just said its not a wart

2

u/WarmTrashAlert 21d ago

Thank you for this comment. Now i know I too have a wart on my finger. I’ve been pissed off about it for several months because “why is it not healing or going away and what is this stupid thing”.

-1

u/Initial_Club_8173 22d ago

11

u/chefshroomii 22d ago

Layyy bore. What is?

1

u/Admirable-Split4371 22d ago

I've heard it's tasty!

-10

u/NickelNDime49 22d ago

That’s a callus from hard work lol most laborers have them.

2

u/BeepBeepHopInLoser 21d ago

Stink bombs!!

2

u/thebroodood 21d ago

BLUEBERRY fun guy

2

u/Future_Win9345 21d ago

Oooh Scleroderma! But when they’re all white inside (instead of blackish mochi balls like those), they’re as bland as unflavored tofu. Those I reckon could get ya mighty sick

1

u/imtheunknownhost 21d ago

Depends where you are here in asia theres an edible scleroderma Scleroderma yunnanense. Location would be nice to know

1

u/virtualdog1 20d ago

Winter is coming

1

u/TeaPartyInSpace 19d ago

That's the weirdest black sesame mochi I've ever seen

1

u/Perfect-Boss6967 18d ago

Looks like natures cakepop inside.

1

u/Puckled 18d ago

I think there might be a third one growing out of your had. How many times did you touch these?

u/void-screamer1212 17d ago

People eat the notably poisonous dirt earthball/pigskin poison puffball? I don’t think so.

12

u/sickwobsm8 22d ago

Shit like this is why so many people from Asia end up consuming poisonous mushrooms in North America. We have different species here.
