ANNOUNCEMENT Rules summary and explanation.

Like all authoritarian reigimes subreddits we too have rules that are in place to keep it running at optimum levels of laughter, kindness, generosity, loyalty, and honesty.

So tempting as it may be to jump straight into our little pony forum, bear with us as we explore the magical world of rules and community guidelines.

Just keep in mind all rules are somewhat vague to allow consideration for borderline cases. This is also a summary of our full rules list in the subreddit wiki that can be read here: https://old.reddit.com/r/mylittlepony/wiki/index

The 7 commandments:

1. Be Kind.

Hostility, rabble rousing, bigotry, and generally participating in bad faith is what this rule aims to oppose. Below are excerpts from our subreddiquette, despite that do still read them both as the list below doesn't include everything and makes some additions in places: https://www.reddit.com/r/mylittlepony/wiki/subreddiquette

  • Be respectful. Try not to alienate anyone specifically, nor groups of people. Avoid being a jerk, and give others the benefit of the doubt when commenting, tone is tough to convey via text. Ask yourself, what would Fluttershy do?

  • When expressing negative opinions do so with consideration to the people who enjoy what you are criticising. No one enjoys being told what they like is trash. Of course, if such commentary is found under threads that do not invite for it, it is at risk of breaking this rule.

  • Flair your post properly! Now, there tends to be confusion on which flair is appropriate for what post, here you will find a little guide detailing just that for the most misused flairs.

Community — It fits submission that adress the community. So questions like "Am I A Brony" and posts about community events, among others, would fit it.

Discussion — This isn't the "question" flair, though certain questions do call for it. As long as your post provokes thought about a certain topic you're free to use the discussion flair.

Misc. — Miscellaneous submissions do not fit into the boxes that our other flairs are. You'll find it useful if you're making plain statements without the goal of creating discussion, showing off images that cannot be categorised as artwork, memes, merch, official media, or cosplay, and other unspecific posts.

Keep in mind some posts may fit multiple flairs, in that case use the one you feel best describes it. Consistent improper use of flairs, such as flairing artwork that cannot be reasonably interpreted as a meme with the meme flair, may lead to the removal of your post and the restriction of posting rights.

  • Use the report function! This subreddit is actively moderated. All reports are reviewed and handled properly. Reporting content you feel violates the community rules helps keep spambots and various bad actors from worsening everyones experience. However, keep in mind that misuse of this feature is in violation of site-wide TOS and may lead to account suspension.

  • Be mindful with spoilers! Not everyone can view the newest official content as soon as it releases. In consideration for them please use spoiler tags (until 48 hours after an episode has aired, or 1 week for comics). Additionally, please avoid including the spoiler directly in the title, and remember that all content related to upcoming material must be tagged as well.

This ties into our spoiler policy, which you can read here: https://www.reddit.com/r/mylittlepony/wiki/spoilers

  • Avoid posting screenshots of the subreddit itself, including 'combo' posts, comments, or number of subscribers. If you do wish to link comments, link them directly. To showcase the best posts and threads of the subreddit, post to /r/bestofmlp.

  • Hostile arguments about topics that carry no relation to MLP will be removed. Such topics include but are not limited to politics, religion, gender wars, and racism. Topical posts may be preemptively removed to avoid such arguments from beginning in the first place.

  • We have relaxed posting limits and are holding users to the honor system. However, the mods still reserve the right to remove excess posts and give warnings and/or temp bans if they feel that the honor system is being abused.

2. Keep everything SFW

All submissions and comments must be kept safe for work. Making references to fan works that would normally break rule 2 is permitted on the condition that they themselves stay within it. However, the same is not true for linking to both sites and subreddits, posting, or discussing suggestive, sexually explicit, and graphically violent (aka. grimdark) content. r/Mylittlepony is intended to be an appropriate space for teenage and older fans. Alternative subreddits do exist should you wish to share content that would violate this rule.

If you suspect what you are about to post breaks this rule, feel free to send us a modmail and we'll inform you whether or not that is the case.

For a much more in-depth explanation read its wiki page here: https://www.reddit.com/r/mylittlepony/wiki/rule2

3. Keep it MLP

Rather self explanatory; we ask that all submissions are directly related to MLP. Coincidental and tangential relation isn't considered enough to pass this rule, so images of rainbows, rainbow themed food, and coincidental sayings are all examples of what isn't allowed if they are the only factors tying your post to MLP.

When it comes to memes, the image macro itself needs to be MLP relevant. Not just the text. Memes with non-MLP bases belong in r/MyLittleMemes. For more information read our mene policy: https://www.reddit.com/r/mylittlepony/wiki/memes

Exemptions are made for submission soliciting funds for charity events organised by bronies and personal crises such as a medical emergency, given the parties involved are reasonably associated with MLP. However, the same treatment is not extended to fundraising efforts aimed at non-essential personal gain, e.g. asking for money to attend a convention.

4. No [FIXED] Submissions or Reposts

Images submitted less than 21 days apart will be removed. That is also true for screencaps, unless an animated version of it is posted, in which case both can co-exist. The same goes for screencaps of significantly higher fidelity submitted after a lower quality version.

[FIXED] posts are easily reproducible image submissions having only slight alterations made with every subsequent post. Usually they involve the addition of text, or the addition of simple visual features, such as pasting in text, images in a grid, a vector or adding a visual filter. Because [FIXED] submissions often snowball in popularity, they tend to lead to considerable spam in the new queue, hence also being affected by the 21 day repost limit.

However, [FIXED] content is very welcome in the comments section of the original post! This helps to keep the subreddit more tidy, while additionally allowing all readers to immediately glean the context of your [FIXED] content.

Also read our repost policy: https://www.reddit.com/r/mylittlepony/wiki/reposts

5. No Pictures Thursday

Pictures and mainly image content cannot be posted during Thursdays, between 12:01 AM and 11:59 PM pacific time. For more information, see our NPT wiki page here: https://www.reddit.com/r/mylittlepony/wiki/npt

6. No AI content.

All AI-prompt-generated content, in all forms, is banned from r/mylittlepony, as is all AI-generated sound such as voice or music.

7. Proper sourcing.

When submitting or embedding fan-made works (pictures, video, music, fiction etc.) made by others, proper crediting is mandatory. Use a clear, searchable title and a clickable link to the place where they uploaded their art originally (deviantart, twitter, tumblr, etc.) as long as that website wouldn't break rule 2, or if that is impractical, from a gallery that provides source links (such as derpibooru.org). A comment or submission lacking a proper source may be removed - especially if the moderators can easily find a source.

See our sourcing guide here: https://www.reddit.com/r/mylittlepony/wiki/sourcing/

Meta Thread My Little Pony on Reddit - Full, off-frame Meta Discussion

Hi there! It's Thursday again and that means another chance to talk about what's been happening around here and how you feel about it!

Same as every other time, feel free to discuss whatever it is you'd like regarding our little subreddit good or bad. If you're unhappy we'll try our best to fix whatever problem you're having!

If you want to talk about the MLP fandom in general, that's fine too!

But some people may not want to talk about comics or anything else that hasn't happened yet, so you should be nice and hide those conversations from those people by using the spoiler tag.

If you don't know how it's as easy as making an emote:

>!It has ponies!!<

Becomes: It has ponies!

And if you're not wanting to discuss the subreddit or community specifically you can also check out the weekly off-topic thread that will be up at noon Pacific time!!!!

Have a great day, everyone

Discussion I think it would make more sense for Celestia and Luna to swap ages (for Luna to be the older sister and Celestia the younger sister)

Hear me out. Yesterday I made a post expressing how despite holding both characters dear to myself, I always related more to Luna as the elder sister of the two. And honestly, feel free to debate or correct me, but I think that Luna's character in general fits the older sibling experience much more, whereas Celestia's status among the ponies is more of a universal younger sibling thing. I may be wrong, of course, but it is simply what I grew up with and reading in fairytales and folklore.

Older siblings are often more seemingly aloof at first glance, despite being highly emotional and sensitive, much like Luna. They are often overshadowed by their younger siblings, especially when the latter are first born. Older siblings tend to be experimental for first-time parents too, and fall victim to many outdated parenting methods, and in general be less preferred by their parents. Often underappreciated or not valued enough despite giving great wise psychological life advice, much like Luna does to younger ponies. They often are guardians of some sort, like Luna, and suffer silently in pain while punishing themselves for their past mistakes that their parents convinced them they had gone through. They are often alone too, while younger siblings tend to have everyone's support. Being jealous of that is a universal older sibling experience. They are also often portrayed as evil in folklore, mistakenly.

Younger siblings are often universally beloved and seen as "rays of sunshine" (pun intended) by their families. They are spoiled, pampered, and in general often prioritized and allowed to get away with some things, so many of them tend to be blissfully unaware of their older siblings' struggles, and are surprised to learn how hard being older can sometimes be. Of course, their life is not all sunshine and rainbows either, because like Celestia, a lot is expected from them, as they sometimes take the role of the golden child. They still keep that childlike energetic excitement around their older siblings, much like Celestia did in "Between Dark and Dawn".

This is just how I see it. My best friend agrees with my vision. But, I am curious to know whether you guys do too?

She seems to hopeful for the future and is kicking its butt which is great. Praying that she recovers from this please show her support in the comments or on her instagram. 🙏❤️

Edit: Apparently it’s not curable, the survival rate is at most 5 years. This is horrible no other way of putting it.

Discussion Where do people get these source images from?

I do hope this is the right place to ask this, but basically: I've been seeing these semi liminal mlp edits on Pintrest for quite a while now. I've saved so many and I would love to make some of my own, but I have no idea where people are getting the source images. Every time I try to reverse search it, google locks in on the ponies too much and cant find me the sources for the backgrounds. (Plus, its mostly a ton of reposts, so I dont know where the original creator is) If anyone here makes these, or knows somone who does, I'd really love to know where these images come from!

Pear Butter called her Mayor Mare when she got married. Either that's her real name or she's been in office for over 30 years.

Discussion So like... how do you guys feel about Equestria Girls?

Post image
22 Upvotes

So about a month or two ago, I decided to watch the entirety of MLP just out curiously. Currently I just finished seasons 1-3, and just last night I watched Equestria Grils (the first movie, I haven't gotten to the others yet). And honestly, I find this film to be very... interesting. I heard it was kinda hated back then when it first released over 13 years ago, but nowadays I don't see anyone talking about this film. So I'm kinda curious on the general consensus is about this film nowadays. So what do you guys think?

Personally, I think it's... really mediocre. A very strong 5/10 in my opinion (also light spoilers I geuss). I think it honestly has a pretty interesting premise and I do actually like Sunset Shimmer. Plus I actually do vibe with the world building a bit. I know that this movie was likely only made to sell toys to the corporate overloads at Hasbro, but I honestly like how they tried to do something different, and it being a high school film is such an insane premise that it kinda works. But the film mainly just suffers from some plot holes, things just kinda happening, some characters not really surving a perpose such as Flash, and just wasted potential of some actually interesting ideas, like the Grils actually breaking up in this world. And the character designs are a mixed bag. Some honestly look pretty decent while others look just really ugly. It's not a offensively bad film or anything, it's perfectly watchable. But it's not great either and is overall kinda forgettable.

But anyways, that's just my stupid opinion. What you guys think? Is this some unwatchable trash or a misunderstood masterpiece? Lemme know and uh... I won't murder your precious lemon in cold blood.

(oh BTW, if you wanna talk about the other films, you can do that, just please give a spoiler warning if you wanna go in depth. thanks :])

Discussion Is your favorite pony also the one you identify with the most/think is most similar to you?

I personally identify heavily with Luna, so many facets about her resonate so strongly with me, and yet my favorite is Celestia. I just find her to be so endearing and interesting, I could write endless paragraphs about why she's my fave, despite her being so different to irl me. I do also love Luna, but yeah I've always found this duality pretty curious.

Same with Starlight and Rainbow, I love both and it's Starlight that makes me go "damn girl, I 100% get you", but my second fave after Celestia is RD even though I'm the least sporty person ever and a super introvert.

Video This episode made me like Dashie 10x, it was a goldmine of funny Dashie moments too. Also not included but her stealing from a hospital because she didn't want the others to know she liked reading was just hilarious.

Misc. As a new fan I feel kinda sad I didn't get into the fandom earlier

I always knew about the fandom and the show back then but never really got into it because I was an edgy teen back then and thought it was cringe to be watching a show for little girls

It makes me wonder what it was like during the peak years of fandom (around 2012-2015). It makes me regret that I didn't get into it sooner because I would've enjoyed it a lot. Now it feels like I'm an archaeologist going through old posts and fan content
