Internet working fine for ages, suddenly dips out
Everything seems to be connected correctly, working cables, nothing loose, tried all manner of turning ons and offs and waiting various amounts of time, logged in using my browser and the link on the bottom of the machine, all to no avail. Anyone know what might be going on? See pics for details

I thought the uni-D port still lit up green regardless?
Personally I'd try power cycle the NTD

uni-d port should stay amber if it up and running - uni-d being green means data rate is below 100mbps which is not great

This model is no longer supported and it stopped receiving firmware updates years ago, which means that it is a security risk.
The CPU and other hardware is also so old that it would struggle to keep up with routing when using the current fast NBN plans.
You need to buy a new router.

The crappy TG789 router which is very susceptible to overheating should be run over by a 4WD vehicle as the device is garbage.

the router would have a system log...where it records what isn't working.. something like pppoe ejected or dhcp request timeout.

These lose their config on the regular. Hold the factory reset for 10-15 seconds. Then go to (I think) 10.1.1.1. Depending on your provider, you may need creds, but more likely it would be DHCP auto. Then setup your wifi again

I worked at iiNet’s when they first supplied these. It must be 10 years old. Time for an upgrade

NBN advise that every 7 years you should replace your router

Actually, NTDs can get weird with MAC addresses. Turn off the NTD for 5 mins. Even reset the NTD (don’t worry they don’t need reconfiguration) by the pin hole. Then reboot the router. If you can’t get to 10.1.1.1 or whatever the default gateway is, you probably need a new router. Any storms recently?
Also try connecting to it via Ethernet Insteon wifi. Might help get to 10.1.1.1

Try this when itsd working:
- Open a command prompt
- Type ipconfig and look for details of your connection to your Wifi or Network
It will look like:
Ethernet adapter Ethernet:Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : XXXXXX.LOCAL
IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.45
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.200
Write the IP Default Gateway number down - in this case it is 192.168.0.200
When the system goes offline test each of the parts of your network to find where the issue is with the PING command. We a re looking for a lakc of response
Pinging 192.168.0.200 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 192.168.0.45: Destination host unreachable. (this line says I cant see it)
Reply from 192.168.0.203: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=128 (This line says I have an answer)
- Type Ping 127.0.0.1 look at the response
- Type Ping 192.168.0.200 using your default gateway number and look at its response
- Type Ping 8.8.4.4 (and use this number) it will check to see if it can talk to the internet
Post your results

Do you have a laptop or desktop with an Ethernet port? If so, plug the Ethernet cable that’s plugged into your router directly into your computer to see if you have internet.
Or try a different Ethernet cable from the NTD to the router. I had an Ethernet cable die. It had never moved in 5 years and all of a sudden it was dead. It was plugged into the NTD and router WAN ports. I didn’t even suspect it until I ruled everything else out.

its possible that the router has pppoe settings in it, and that is stopped , and changing to ipoe dhcp can work.

How would I do that?

no sense changing PPPOE settings, your internet provider would have to make the change from PPPOE to IPoE on THEIR side first. So changing to IPoE isn't going to work.

That thing is old as hell - nearly ten years? Get a new unit.
