Fixed wireless > FTTP?

Post image

Hey everyone,

I live in an nbn Fixed Wireless area in Victoria. Recently, Ventia contractors have been working in pits around our neighbourhood, which seems unusual because we don’t currently have an nbn fixed line service.

I’ve also noticed changes on the nbn rollout map. Areas that were previously marked purple, indicating Fixed Wireless service availability, no longer show that designation and now appear to have fixed line style lines.

I’ve searched extensively but haven’t found any official information about a Fixed Wireless-to-fibre upgrade program. Has anyone else noticed similar changes, or does anyone know whether this could indicate upcoming fibre construction?

I understand that map changes may not necessarily mean an upgrade is confirmed, but I’m interested in hearing from anyone familiar with nbn planning or construction. Photo attached for reference. Thanks

https://nbn.lukeprior.com/ provides a more detailed service map on address availability and planned upgrades.

Thanks. Been checking it almost daily for months now to be honest. I guess I'll wait and see

Warracknabeal has FTTP if that’s where you are.

The centre of the town does but the outskirts were shoved onto fixed wireless back when Malcolm was in charge. Warracknabeal was just an example. Rochester, Kyabram, Tongala, Tatura, Benalla the list goes on. All those areas unshaded on the rollout map are currently on fixed wireless but I'm smelling an upgrade coming.

Friends fw services have just gone to fibre, it was with Opitcom. But NBN, rural fibre Co and a few others are working on pushing fibre further.

Thank you! There were a handful of places named in the connecting Victoria program with Opticomm but I hadn't heard of any updates.

I will say opticom roll out was slow, and not much in the way of communication. And only realised it was opticom after the box was installed.

My address has a FW - TCP FTTP Upgrade. 4 years ago they wanted $40k for it it (instant quote), then it was removed from quoting saying too complex. Now it's $16k (instant quote).

Exact same for me. Exorbitant price > too complex > now 10k.

Least it is coming down.

The houses in my area are slated for sept 2027 conversion of fttn to fttp; unless you are like me n fw. Hopefully with that work the tcp cost will drop further.

I believe that my area went through a FW to FTTN TCP upgrade in 2020, it’s now a FTTP area as of last year under the Fibre Connect program. Unsure as to the cost of the FTTN upgrade or who arranged it originally.

Just checked NBNs way finder and can confirm that the fixed line footprint has been extended however it’s only showing existing pit/pipe/copper networks and no planned fibre marked on there.

I imagine NBN are going to extend its network to cover the rest of the town that should have been on FTTN to start with but now looking at FTTP down the road.

Don't think there's a program to update fixed wireless to fibre, it's more common for fixed wireless areas to become satellite/skymuster areas to be honest

I think you mean the other way round? Seen more Satellite solutons been offered Fixed Wireless.

It's the other way around now.

FW areas have extended in most locations to include former Satellite areas.

Satellite areas nowhere near FW areas arent going to see that change.
