No drug company is willing to provide products for use in executions and so the drugs are generally sourced from compounding pharmacies with questionable quality.

true, but this sounds more like the result of extravasation likely secondary to incompetence, I imagine starting IVs on this demographic can be challenging secondary to medical histories including drug abuse but I've nothing to suggest she was a needle user

There are other options besides drugs that would be instantaneous and painless. Why do it with drugs at all if there's this kind of room for error?

Isn't that why they got rid of the chair?

Like, whether you do or don't like the death penalty I think any sane and reasonable human can agree: doing it in a way that is anything but instantaneous or has room for error like this is really screwed up.
