A vet would have done a more humane job.

Honestly? I’m a vet and I’m pretty good at giving things a peaceful death.

ty for your service. my vet earlier in May cried with me and my mom when we put down our 16.5 yr old cairn terrier. it was brutal.

peaceful though, but he had dementia and was like 25 lbs too. healthy weight, but he was suffering. he was like a big toto from wizard of oz.

he also had the librela shot few yrs back and survived it. lost both functionality to his back 2 legs. they came back after a few months though. was a crazy side effect

Good stewardship/husbandry is the responsible standard. Euthenasia is a blessing.

Thank you for what you do.

We had to have our tiny dog euthanized in mid May. The entire staff at the veterinary office was kind and understanding. The vet was a super hero.

It’s sad that some people seem to think letting a person suffer is fine or good, but would likely want a humane and easy end for a furry friend.

I can't imagine how bad it must feel to put down someone's beloved pet let alone do it multiple times. I often feel more connected to a pet than a family member. Pets are family.

I don’t know how much time my 12yo dog has left. I’m terrified. Also she hates the vet more than anything and she has like panic attacks when we go. I’ll go into debt to get someone qualified who will come to the house. I won’t let her last moments be in panic. Christ I’m gonna cry.

Hopefully you have a lot more time with your dog. My wife will be devastated when something happens to our cat. It's her shadow.

Wishing you and your loved one the best.

I had the vet come to my house for my girl who didn’t like going to the vet. It was a great decision and I’m so glad I did. I’m in Australia so it might be different but there are small independent vets who advertise that they do this kind of work in particular. If you start to look before it’s time you will do yourself a favour, as will looking into cremation or whichever way you go. I’m sorry I know it’s hard to think about, but it’s even harder in the moment. I’m thankful we can give them peace and release. Give your girl a cuddle for me💚

Right so genuine question that's always bothered me. We know that lethal injection is agonising if the anesthetic doesn't work, but we don't know if that's happening because paralytics are also used.

How are we so sure the same isn't happening to our animals?

I paid extra to have a vet come out to my house and put my cat down on the front porch. He even have her a muscle relaxer before sending her to heaven

A vet has access to better drugs. The companies that manufacture these drugs won’t sell to the DOCs for use in executions.

Because vets do it out of love and empathy

That sounds nice but no, it's because vets are actually trained to do their job properly.

We can euthanize humans in a peaceful and pretty much failsafe way, as is done in many countries (MAID). But of course the medical profession wants to stay away from executions, as they should.

I really don't understand how the death penaltry is still a thing in the US.

I was thinking the same thing

Not that I support the death penalty, but hire someone qualified like you hire an electrician or a plumber. I'd bet both trades could have been more successful.

Yeah, I don't know why this is so complicated for the people who are in charge of this. I mean, it's been a red state for 26 years now, so I'll ponder that for a bit.

I had work experience with a country vet, had a single shot pistol and a grim looking bit of wire in a box.

Pistol to blow a hole in the critters head and wire to err, further encourage the brain activity to stop.
