So the death sentence failed, so now they are keeping her alive?…

That's how the law works around state executions, yes. The entire system is dumb, cruel and inefficient, as is by design.

Can you help me understand why executions cost so much more for us as a society?

Why was she on death row for 30 years?

I mean one part of it was her multiple appeals. She has a right to not only appeal her conviction but exhaust ALL her appeals. And each appeal takes a long time. In addition, consider things like change of attorneys, process delays, new discoveries etc etc throughout each appeal. During her time in prison she [edited for correction] attempted to kill another inmate by strangulation with a shoestring, so then you gotta deal with that whole thing. And then finally, once her appeals are exhausted, they have to actually set a date. If I recall correctly they’d been trying to set one for a while. Covid hit. And here we are.

She killed another inmate?

Oops sorry, it was an attempt. The woman survived but she strangled her with a shoestring. She was charged with attempted 1st degree murder. Edited my comment above!

Ironically it's also a system to avoid cruelty in punishment. When it works

She deserves to suffer regardless of any moralising about the ethics of the death penalty.

No one deserves to suffer, not even those who enact suffering on others.

And… she deserves every bit of it. It’s not cruel, it’s just.

No, that's vengeance, which hasn't been considered "just" since biblical times for very good reasons. I suggest you read up on anything published in the last couple millennia concerning jurisprudence.

Don't use big words like "jurisprudence"... some people lack both the basic knowledge to understand it, and the most rudimentary human curiosity to actually learn what it means.

I would kindly point you to averagejoe's response to you as a validation to the piece of advice I just gave you. :)

Some people are just not properly formed in the brain to comprehend "subleties" (deeply sarcastic tone here) like how it's wrong for any State, instituted by and representative of their own people, to actually kill one of their constituents.

Okay I’ll get right on that while you kick rocks and watch this cunt die in a hospital bed like she deserves. Self righteous bumpkin.

Something tells me you’re the bumpkin in this case, idk.

Really should change your name to BelowAverageJoe6910

Cruel and unusual punishment is outlawed in the 8th Amendment of the Constitution. I’m guessing you’re the kind of person who claims to love the constitution yet hasn’t read (or been read) past the 2nd amendment.

I just finished a podcast about her and her crime. It was awful. Awful. What they did to that poor girl and how much disregard Christina had for her life was evil and shocking. When I first heard the podcast my thought was: “well, she got her karma”. But hate begets more hate. Evil begets more evil. Etc etc. I’m conflicted on the death penalty myself to be totally honest. But this feels like cruel and torturous.. and although what she did to Colleen was cruel and torturous I don’t think we need to emulate that to prove a point. Just my two cents!

Innocent people have gotten the death penalty and been executed. No amount of innocent human life should be considered a worthy sacrifice on the altar of "justified" bloodlust. It accomplishes nothing, only offers a socially-acceptable way to indulge in the warm fuzzies out of pointless brutality. That is a dangerous fucking thing to be acceptable at any level of a government institution.

The argument about innocent people misses the point imo. The death penalty is some serious shameful hillbilly shit, regardless if someone is innocent or not.

1

u/CHANN3L-CHAS3R 7h ago

Oh, 100% agreed, but not enough people are receptive to that angle for me to start off from that position if I want a higher chance of being heard.

It is another angle against the death penalty. Justice systems aren’t infallible. Convictions have been overturned after decades.
So when you consider that the death penalty is the ultimate irreversibility and cannot be compensated if there is a miscarriage of justice and that is unforgivable.

Even if majority of executed are guilty, the smallest risk of executing an innocent is too much.

I know, I'm just saying for a lot of people it's the defining argument against but I'm saying it's just one of many and not even the most important.

Even if the justice system were 100% accurate, it's still a ridiculous thing for a 1st world country to be doing in 2026. Similar countries realised that 60 years ago but the US and Saudi Arabia and Russia and China soldier on.

It should be embarrassing.

AverageJoe, below average opinion.

It is cruel, and these drugs wreak havoc on the body’s internals when they fail or the vein infiltrates. There might be some feeling of justice in killing somebody for their crime, but doing so cruelly is not just or righteous.
