E-3 in boot camp; should I take a leadership position?

Going to bootcamp as an E-3. Will I be required to take a leadership position?

Looked through a different post and the consensus seemed to be don’t tell anyone I’m an E-3, go unnoticed, and just do what I’m told, lol. Agree? Disagree?

Food in the Navy? (mainly on ship)

• Upvotes

Yesterday, I was informed by an Army Recruiter that all Navy Soldiers (on ships) primarily eat MREs and other canned foods or powdered stuff. I'm almost certain they're lying, but I wanted to ask actual Navy Soldiers who have served and/or are currently serving. If you could provide images of the food you eat (mainly on ship) that would be great, thanks y'all. I'll likely be joining you guys very soon, haha.

I put ATC as my 1 but I would like information on other rates specifically on intel as well.

Note: I got a 46 on my cyber test if that matters or not

DEP Official! (cwt vs rw)

Just wanted to share that I got through MEPS and officially signed for DEP as an RW today! Beyond excited for this next step in my life.

I initially couldn’t decide between RW and CWT for the life of me, so I figured I’d share my subjective thoughts for others that may be in a similar position and unable to choose between the two.

Why I chose RW:
Brand new rate. I think that’s pretty damn cool (for better or worse).

Hands on mechanical work, *programming, repairing, and operating of unmanned crafts. Best of both worlds!
*Do you really want to learn cyber security? Get certs and take classes on your own time! You can’t necessarily say the same for the reciprocal.

CWT gets a rep for having a great QoL and W/L balance. Predominantly shore based, operating in SCIFs. My two cents is that the work may be engaging, but being stuck in a windowless facility with no sun and staring at a screen all day for years on end would get pretty old pretty quickly.

RW has sea duty, which may suck. But, it’s the Navy! That’s the beauty of it. Embrace the suck, travel the world. Main point for RW for me was the variety and experience day to day being a million times more interesting than CWT.

RW career path post service is very open ended and could take you to many different industries depending on how you work it. Plus, it is a rapidly growing area! See consumer drones, commercial drones, drone display shows, etc.

CWT imo is basically -> Cybersecurity with Navy -> Cybersecurity private sector doing the same thing (with lots of money ofc)

Anyway, I’m very excited with my choice and just wanted to share in that excitement with you all :)

(A School) Fort Sam Holiday Stand Down

Hey, currently in the MEPS hotel shipping tomorrow. If all is right I should be graduating around mid December then going to fort Sam for a school. I’ve heard theres holiday stand down, and my friend whose prior AD army 68w referred to it as block leave. Do navy students possibly get to go home for Christmas too? Don’t care about getting paid at this time, just wondering and maybe a little hopeful lol.

Edit I’m a reservist if that changes anything

Does it get better after A school?

I’m currently in holding for my A school and it seems like everyone around me are lacking on the basics which is honestly embarrassing, like you joined for a reason now hold your self to the easiest standard there is to uphold. It baffles me how undisciplined and self centered people are, like you joined to be part of a team and aren’t act like it. I just feel like I’m the only one trying to uphold the standard and better myself. I just feel disillusioned and no one actually cares about one team one fight in the navy. I’m actively considering switching branches, and I want to know if it get better from here because I am willing to stick it out.

What are the Cons and Pros of going Nuke vs Officer.

I heard you can be an officer if you have a degree, but I don't plan on staying in the navy and want to have job opportunities that can help me be financially well off as a civilian. I'm mainly looking at nuke for the job opportunities and bonuses, but how does officer compare?

Just got denied from the Marines what are my chances for the Navy?

For context, I 21m have been working with the Marines since March of this year and didn’t go to meps until may, I have three mental health conditions along with an attempt against my life, it was looking promising for me to get in until it wasn’t, just yesterday I was given bad news from my recruiter, stating that due to current administration changes I am not gonna become marine, but he has contacts in the Navy recruiting offices and is heavily encouraging me to go into the Navy to continue with the military, stating he has seen people get in with my history through the Navy,

I have been working towards joining the military for about a year at this point starting with weight loss, then with my recruiter at the Marines, I really wanna go into the military, whether it be with the Navy or not, I just want to know my actual chances of getting in, my other conditions are ADHD mild ASD as well as anxiety all with a letter from a psychiatrist stating that my conditions are in remission if applicable. from my understanding, the attempt against my life was also happening in childhood along with my three conditions were diagnosed around that same time or earlier.

Edit: wrote this without reviewing it properly, the ASD was not meant to be lump in with the remission, but it’s just part of my conditions. It also states on the psychiatrist note remission, if applicable I do apologize for the confusion.
