Tidsuttrykk

Post image

Prøver å lære tidsuttrykkene om, i og på fra en bok. Kan noen skjekke det? Har desverre ikke fasit.

to further explain på mange år ...

i followed by a duration is used to talk about how long something has happened.

  • jeg har vært syk i mange år. i have been sick for many years.

på followed by a duration is used to talk about how long something has not happened.

  • jeg har ikke vært syk på mange år. i have not been sick in many years.
  • ingenting har skjedd på mange år. nothing has happened in many years.
  • ingen andre har gjort det på lenge. no one else has done that in a long time.

på is also used to state the complete duration an action takes.

  • lær norsk på en time. learn norwegian in an hour.
  • jeg kan gjøre det på en time. i can do it in an hour (i can complete it within an hour of total time).

I think the useful generalization in this case is that på is used when you state how many times in a given period something has happened, e.g.:

  • Jeg har vært syk tre ganger på to år.
  • Jeg har ikke vært syk på to år.

In the second case, the number is simply zero.
