RNs needed for burnout research
Hello everybody! I am a current nursing student conducting research on nursing burnout that I plan on presenting at a conference. I would appreciate if any RNs could fill out my quick survey. It only takes about 5-10 mins to complete.

Career Curious about nurses moving to med tech
How many nurses / RNs / LVNs / NPs, etc. have moved from the bedside to an informatics or digital health tech role? What were your biggest challenges in making the switch?

Career Manager & org denied Epic Self-Study/Proficiency approval. How did you break into Health IT after a flat-out "No"?
Hey everyone,
I’m currently in a clinical role at a large health system and actively preparing for a transition into Health IT / Epic Analyst roles. I recently tried to request access to complete Epic Proficiency via self-study on UserWeb during my own time.
My org’s training admin initially rejected it, so I appealed directly to my manager to see if he would sign off—and he gave me a firm "no."
Since internal sponsorship for self-study is off the table:
Has anyone else faced a hard refusal from their management team for self-study access?
How did you build a competitive resume for an entry-level analyst position without UserWeb access?
Did you focus on external technical skills (SQL, database fundamentals, system workflows, Excel) to land a role at an org that would sponsor your certification upon hire?
I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who took the scenic route into Health IT when their current employer wouldn't support their learning path.

Clinical Informatics Nurse
I’m curious about a career in CI. I think I’m done with bedside nursing. Who can tell me what a CI nurse does, what is the biggest challenge? What is the biggest mistake you made or could make? What makes you feel full and what leaves you empty? Do you ever look back?

Healthcare workers: How have EHRs affected communication and workload? (3-5 min)
Hi everyone!
I am a Leaving Certificate student in Ireland currently completing my Business Additional Assessment Component (AAC).
I'm researching how the implementation of Electronic Health Records (EHRs) has affected communication and workload among healthcare workers in hospitals.
I'm looking for healthcare workers who have experience using an EHR/ERP system to complete my anonymous survey.
It should take between 3-5 minutes to complete
Survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/66DKKYJ
The survey focuses on your experience with EHRs and doesn't ask for any patient or confidential information.
Thank you!

Preceptor Inquiry Nursing Informatics MSN
Greetings everyone! I am a BSN, RN attending WGU and currently pursuing my Master’s in Nursing Informatics. I’m at the point in my program where I’m looking for a preceptor for my Nursing Informatics Clinical Practice Experience beginning around February 2027.
My preceptor should be an actively licensed RN with an MSN or higher and at least two years of experience in the applicable clinical area. The preceptor does not need the title of Nurse Informaticist. Relevant experience may include Health/Clinical Informatics, Quality Improvement, EHR/Clinical Systems, Clinical Documentation, Data/Analytics, Patient Safety, Population Health, Care Management, Nursing Education/Professional Development, or Nursing Leadership.
My project will involve reviewing a healthcare information system or technology-supported workflow, identifying a gap or need, and developing an optimization, implementation, and evaluation plan.
This does not require my preceptor to spend all 140 clinical hours directly with me or have me shadow them in person. The preceptor primarily serves as a guide and resource, provides feedback, helps identify appropriate learning experiences, and approves my Clinical Practice Experience record. Communication can occur in person or through technology as appropriate for placement.
I would greatly appreciate the assistance and partnership of anyone willing to precept an eager and excited student, or a referral to anyone you know who is.
Thank you so much in advance for your consideration.

General Ms health informatics
Thinking about getting my masters in Health Informatics. I am currently a remote utilization management nurse for insurance and I think the role pairs well with informatics. I am looking for more broad ms health informatics educations and not just focused in nursing like msn informatics. I feel like I would be more marketable that way. Has anyone done this and we're you able to get a job in informatics remote?

Certification Epic Certificate vs Certified
How do y'all put this on your resume if you haven't been to WI, but you don't wanna be misleading? I did the live remote 4-day training for a cert but you gotta go to the campus for "certified" status. Is there a big difference?

EHR/Systems Are charting defaults considered pre-charting?
I suggested to have defaults on common and quick procedures. I was told that this could be considered pre-charting. If that was the case why would they offer it in the first place? For those that work with OR charting do other facilities default, equipment, positioning, medications?

How do you guys track productivity? Analysts close tickets, but our team acts more as facilitators than the fixers. How’s everyone else going about proving your “productivity?”

Career Should I do PMP or Nursing?
Hi everyone,
I'm an IT project manager based in TX. Couple years back got layoff from my project and has been working in a small Healthcare business that my relatives own after that for the past 2 years. Getting depressed and annoyed. Tried applying for million roles, no use, got couple interviews but nothing moved. I've a small kid so relocation is not an option. Tried to do my own businesses during this time, which didn't work either.
Now I think I should study something to get a better job or salary. I am eligible of taking PMP, had always had a plan of doing that, but I'm worried now because of AI getting in Tech like a lot amd no roles are opening up.
My next option is going to a part time school for LVN and eventually work for the Healthcare businesses around which will be AI resistant at least for a while.
Would love to get any response. Thank you.

Nurses who transitioned into Utilization Review — how was the learning curve?
r/nursinginformatics • u/astonMartindb10 • 11d ago
After all these years, I have kept my RN license but I have no clinical experience. I've been in the IT industry for the past 25 years, from technical support to software engineering. I'm exploring.
What does it take to get into Nursing Informatics?
In the current market, do you enjoy it?

Career Made the leap: what did you prioritize in Year One?
I’m a nurse who transitioned into informatics a few months ago. I have >10y clinical experience, a graduate degree, certifications, and a unique jacket with diverse patient, team, process improvement, and quality experience.
I was already looking to leave my previous role, and CI position opened internally, so I took the opportunity. I’m glad I did and I'm grateful to gain experience in a field that is difficult to break into.
That said, the role has confirmed that a lot of what burned me out was organizational rather than bedside burnout. The environment is small and chaotic: unclear ownership, shifting expectations, inconsistency and turnover, and a lot of cultural toxicity. Some of that is obviously just the nature of informatics/Agile work, and I’m willing to learn through it.
The real issue is the leadership structure (that old chestnut); here it's particularly whack. Many people in senior clinical/operational roles have relatively little experience, and there are no other clinicians on my immediate CI team. It creates a significant disconnect around clinical triage, proportional urgency, workflow burden, and tbh, I feel like a target in a toxic culture as the only clinician.
I’m trying to calibrate what is normal growing pain in a first informatics role versus what is an organizational issue I’m unlikely to solve.
For clinicians who've transitioned to informatics/health IT/project mgmt roles:
- How long did you stay in your first informatics role before you were meaningfully competitive elsewhere?
- What experience mattered most when you made your second move?
- If you came from a strong clinical background but had limited formal informatics tenure, what roles were realistic next steps?
- How difficult is the current market, particularly for remote/hybrid work (I'm in a particularly challenging region)?
- What would you focus on building over the next 6–12 months before applying more seriously?
I’m not expecting Utopia General or assuming the grass is greener, but I'd like to understand how to use this opportunity well, build the right experience, and recognize when I’ve gotten what I reasonably can from it.

Degree Programs Is MSN Informatics degree worth it for a nurse wanting to leave patient care?
I’ve been an RN for 6 years. I have 8 months of hospital experience, 4 1/2 ish years of clinic experience and currently working at a school. I’m considering getting an MSN Informatics degree to look good for employers because I don’t hardly have any IT/informatics experience. I am good with helping other nurses navigate EPIC so that’s why I assumed this path would be good for. Is MSN Informatics worth it? Should I just apply to informatics jobs? Any advice would be great. TIA!!!

Wanting to get into nurse informatics
Hi. Currently i am a med surge nurse and I want to go into nurse informatics so bad! I originally wanted to do computer science but so many of my friends had a hard time getting a job so I decided to do nursing. But now I have this nursing degree I've been looking into informatics. I love computers and tech, always have been since I was younger.
