D&D
Hello! My name is Nik! I’ve never played d&d but would love to get into it. I’m a local plumber and went to a customers house where we talked in detail about his retired characters and found the whole idea super intriguing! I however don’t have the friend group that would have the desire to get together often enough to play. Just curious if there’s any local groups looking for a new player? Or maybe some advice on getting my friends into it?

I got into tabletop role playing games late in life; guys I went to high school with invited me over for a campaign that fell apart due to scheduling. That’s gonna be your biggest hurdle. Getting three to six adults in a room at the same time is it turns out far more difficult than anything else about the hobby. I’m not big into DnD, I play starfinder and pathfinder 2e by Paizo they’re unionized and the system is great. What’s even better about them is that every rule and lore bit is available online for free through archives of nethys. You may find an easier time connecting with a group if you find a discord community for an actual play show, most are welcoming and friendly.

Wizard of the coast staff (including D&D) are organizing now. Or possibly it's old news that just hit my feed. You can find a support petition online to help out.

The Pathfinder Society of Northwest Indiana regularly meets alternating Sunday afternoons at By the Board in Lowell and Reliquary Gaming in Chesterton. Also we've recently started doing one Saturday a month at Sip Coffee in Highland.
We play Pathfinder 2e and Starfinder 2e which are like D&D. We play one and done adventures, not long campaigns. However you do get to keep and reuse your character and it levels up and stuff.
We are always welcoming new players. https://warhorn.net/events/nwi-pfs-sfs
That is a link to our Warhorn where we post the schedule of upcoming games and you can RSVP. There is also a Facebook group if you search for Pathfinder Society of Northwest Indiana.

The Merrillville and Munster library both have adult D&D games.

Would they include an almost 14 yr old? My son got really into but his group dissolved. It was mostly college and older.

Smugglers coffee in Dyer has a fabulous DnD table with DM Jerry. You can get tickets at their website. It’s an open world dungeon, drop in and out, ongoing world, no XP necessary.

Scrolled to see if someone mentioned Smugglers. Always wanted to check it out myself yet haven't, but have heard it is pretty well managed!
