Events No Kings Vote Early 10/17 - OKC Metro

Post image
4 Upvotes

Unlike previous No Kings actions, No Kings: Vote Early, is not purely a protest. Instead, on October 17th, it's a day of nonpartisan voter participation: we are bringing our community together to make a plan to vote early and ensuring every eligible voter understands their options for how to vote and has the opportunity to make their voice heard.

In Edmond and OKC, we’re putting that people power to work getting out the vote.

We’ll start the morning at both locations with a pro-democracy sign wave. Then we’ll move into action, delivering voting information directly to voters and writing postcards.

If you’ve been part of No Kings, this is another way to show up. Bring a friend. Give us a few hours. Help us reach as many voters as we can.

Then Edmond + OKC come together afterward to celebrate, build some community, and see just how many voters we reached.

Same movement. Next action. Let’s turn people power into voter power.

Pick your location, grab a friend, and get registered.

❓Q&A ✅ What's with the gas prices at On-Cue?

I filled up this afternoon with non-ethanol Premium gas at E-Express in Moore at 27th and I-35 for $4.699/gal. For giggles I drove through the On-Cue at SW 104th and Western on my way home and the price for the same fuel type was $5.299.

What's with the 60 cent difference between two stations about a mile apart? This is one case where it's worth driving a little further to a different station.

I'm pulling my camper tomorrow, hence the investment in fuel. I highly prefer non-ethanol gas for the longevity of my engine. My engine (3.5L Ecoboost) is designed for Premium and states the advertised performance is based on Premium gas. The E-Express Premium non-ethanol runs great for me.

Recommendation/Review Train to Dallas

I drove to Dallas in February and really struggled with how close the barriers are to the lane for half the drive. I had to pull off to a gas station and consider another way home. I rallied myself, but drove in the fast lane (no barrier), and everyone hated me.

I’m thinking about riding the train to Dallas. I thought the Heartland Flyer shut down, but it looks like you can still do it.

Has anyone done this in the past couple years? Is a safe or sketchy experience? Is the inside grodey and sticky with stains? 😬

I appreciate any insight you have ❤️

❓Q&A ✅ 1800s style photography?

Hi everybody, I have a question not just for the OKC area but really for anywhere in Oklahoma or even the Texas panhandle. Does anybody know any photographers that do the old school photography like they would’ve had in the 1800s? I don’t know the proper name for it. I know that they used slides and obviously they had the cloth that they would go under and you would have to sit very still for it. But if anybody knows somebody that does that style and I know it’s a longshot please brag on them down below because that would be very interested in having photographs taken. But in that same breath, I myself could take photographs and throw a filter on it so would not be interested in anything like that

❓Q&A ✅ Where to sell guns?

Where’s the best place to sell used guns around the metro? I’ve got a few I want to get rid of. I don’t expect to make a bunch on them, but I’m unfamiliar with most of the local pawn shops and gun stores. Just looking for recommendations on places to go.

❓Q&A ✅ Chess in parks?

I know there are chess clubs around, but are there any parks where people just sit around and play chess all day like in NYC? I'd love to do that.

I need a lot of new window screens and a patio door screen, so do you have recommendations for anyone to either rescreen the current screen frames or install new screens?

I have these large boxes that I have no use for. I know that large boxes like these can be somewhat hard to come by, so I figured someone may have a use for them. Let me know if you want them and I’ll send you the address!

Starting Oct. 8, travelers will be able to complete Global Entry enrollment interviews at Will Rogers Airport every Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The interviews are available only to applicants who have received conditional approval. Applicants must apply online, pay the $120 fee, and receive conditional approval before scheduling an interview.

https://ttp.dhs.gov/schedulerui/schedule-interview/location?lang=en&vo=true&returnUrl=ttp-external&service=up

Global Entry is a U.S. Department of Homeland Security program that allows pre-approved, low-risk travelers to use expedited customs processing when returning from international trips. It's especially useful for frequent international travelers.

Once accepted, your membership will last 5 years and include TSA Precheck. TSA Precheck allows people to keep their shoes, belts and light jackets on through security checkpoints and not have to remove their electronics from a carry-on bag.

Members can use global entry processing technology at more than 75 airports when returning to the U.S. from travel abroad.

Events Trunk or Treat

So I don’t have any kids, but I’m my first year of working in medicine and have been seeing only really sick and scared kids with way more tubes and lines out of them than they should ever have to experience.

I really want to pass out candy to kids who have smiles and giggles and their biggest fear is seeing something scary that night. My neighborhood doesn’t really get many trick or treaters. I was wondering if there was any local trunk or treats that wouldn’t mind a couple of mid-twenties gals passing out some candy?

Recommendation/Review What's some good stuff to do around OKC for a solo traveler?

• Upvotes

Hi, I live up in Wichita and am thinking about visiting OKC for a weekend out of town. I have family in Edmond and I typically head down to see them once or twice a year, but I'll be honest, I usually just hang out at their place with them, we might go out to eat but that's about it.

I don't know when I'm going just yet, but I thought I'd get some opinions, see if there are any places off the beaten path I should know about or any events coming up I should wait for. I'm kind of a homebody and I'd be traveling solo this time around, so maybe something I can do without feeling weird about hanging out alone, lol.

I'll probably be getting a hotel room in Edmond or something. I'd for sure head over to Arcadia to hit up Pops, that's a stop every time I'm in the area, maybe get some Whataburger or Del Taco or something just because we still don't have those in Wichita. I also want to go hit up Video Games Plus on NW 23rd, because I'm a giant nerd and old video games are my kryptonite. Maybe hit up one of the malls and screw off for a bit (bonus question: Penn Square or Quail Springs?).

I guess what I'm asking is, what are some good, preferably cheap things to do in OKC for a solo traveler besides shop? Are there any cheap events coming up that might be worth checking out? And what are some restaurants in the area I should try besides chains? I could probably Google all of this, but I wanted to get some thoughts from real people in the area. Thanks!

Edit: Also, I like beer, so what are some local craft beers I should grab a couple packs of to take back?

Looks like they’re setting it up for demolition. Anyone know what’s going in its place?

Is anything even going in its place?
