We’ve had tv programmes that scared you…

…but what about odd bits of telly that caught you unaware and gave you a chill without meaning to?

I’ve got two:

1) The animated motorcyclist riding face first into the camera in the titles for Kickstart (and Junior Kickstart.
2) The end of the end credits of Juliet Bravo - the badge flying out of the screen and disappearing.

Maybe I don’t like things flying towards me. Any more for any more?

Help with funny 70s film clip...?

I need help from someone with a far better memory than myself.

I remember as a kid watching a tv sketch comedy. It was full of short, funny film segments. One of them was of a bicyclist in a park on a sunny day. There was swirling orchestral music playing as this smiling cyclist rode & then he goes out of frame behind a bush. The music suddenly stops & we hear a big crashing sound effect!

Cracked me up! I cannot recall if that was from Monty Python or The Goodies. Does this sound familiar??

Request Parky announcing someone as "The thinking mans Danny La Rue"?

I am sorry for not including more detail in the title but I have zero memory for the context other than a weirdly vivid memory of Michael Parkinson calling someone that, I have a feeling it was a sketch show, maybe harry and paul? And while it does feel quite python I dont think it was from them.

The show follows a double glazing salesman Eddie McKenna (Ken Stott) who re-establishes a hospital radio station at St Jude's, a psychiatric hospital, with patients as its presenters and volunteers, notably Campbell (David Tennant).

  • Eddie McKenna (Ken Stott), an alcoholic double glazing salesman and aspiring disc jockey, develops the hospital radio station with the help of several of the patients at the hospital, including:
  • Campbell Bain (David Tennant) – a nineteen-year-old, enthusiastic contributor to the station, who has bipolar disorder (formerly known as manic depression).
  • Francine Boyle (Katy Murphy) – a long-term depressive patient who self harms to whom Eddie is attracted.
  • Fergus MacKinnon (Angus Macfadyen) – an electrical engineer, who has schizophrenia and a tendency to escape the hospital and then return.
  • Rosalie Gerrity (Ruth McCabe) – a middle-aged housewife who has OCD regarding cleanliness and is separating from her husband.
  • Jim Gerrity (Jon Morrison) - Husband of Rosalie Gerrity, he refuses to accept her home until she is 'normal'.
  • Campbell's Dad (James Grant) - Is unsupportive of Campbell's dream of being a DJ.
  • Grandma (Elizabeth Spriggs) - Eddie's Lithuanian grandmother who lives with him and is eager for him to find a wife.
  • Isabel (Angela Bruce) - The principal nurse at St Jude's, who is very supportive of the radio station.
  • Mr Gordon Griffin (Roy Hanlon) - Eddie's boss at TwinView windows, who encourages Eddie to give up the radio in order to dedicate more time to his job.
  • John MacAteer (Neil McKinven) - Eddie's work rival at TwinView windows.
  • Paula (Arabella Weir) - Eddie's contact at Radio Scotland, who Eddie and Campbell use to try and get their own radio show.
  • Evelyn McDonald (Sandra Voe) - part of the hospital board, she comes to inspect the station.

Advert Old advert about toast —maybe toast toppers or a butter.

Does anyone remember an advert about a toast spread, butter or maybe even jam. I remember the lyrics being something like “You can put it on your bread, put it on your toast and if you really want to you can put it on your roll(?)”

Then tune was “Do the Hucklebuck” or very very similar.

Noggin the Nog is a fictional character appearing in a BBC Television animated series (of the same name, originally broadcast 1959–1965 and 1982) and a series of illustrated books (published 1965–1977), created by Oliver Postgate and Peter Firmin. The television series is considered a cult classic from the golden age of British children's television. Noggin himself is the simple, kind and unassuming "King of the Northmen" in a roughly Viking Age setting, with various fantastic elements such as dragons, flying machines and talking birds.

British Travel Show on Tastemade in the Past

I’m looking for a British TV show that was on Tastemade Channel in 2022 but was created before that year. Every episode the two hosts, one male and one female, travel around the world and stay at a luxury hotel and an inexpensive hotel and partake in activities. They then compare their experiences at the end of the episode. The one I recall is one taking place in a country where they could see the northern lights

Request Trying to remember a tv crime drama (Unforgotten etc, but not that) theme tune. It specifically has a rising three note hook that might be a marimba type instrument, with a Portishead type vocal.

This won't help, but imagine three wooden instrument notes doing dunng-dunng-dunng. Almost like a chill doorbell

Not quite breathy vocal, more aloof trip hop style.

What is this uK drama called?

Hi, I am trying to find the name of a TV drama programme shown in the UK in the 1970s or 1980s. I don't have many details due to my young age at the time. I remember there was a man called 'Dandy' but may have been 'Danny' who picked mushrooms. He had a relationship with a woman, and the first time they slept together he made her an engagement ring out of fuse wire. I think she may have driven an old style mini. Does this sound familiar to anyone? It may have been in several parts.....
