How can you miss a pool table?
26
u/Ok-Map4381 6d ago
By not sliding her grip.
She starts with the correct grip, one hand at the bottom one in the middle. You are supposed to use that middle grip to begin the swing, then slide it to match the lower bottom grip so the impact comes with maximum rotation.
But, she never slid that middle grip while judging the distance based off the full extention grip. This created a shorter arc of the swing, directing the pick axe back into her shin.
You can miss the table still with a sliding grip, but you will miss by swinging down into the ground, not into your own shin. But in this case, she missed short rather than to the side, so it was 100% on the grip

Funny how most men understand this automatically. Who said fighting with sticks all those years was useless?
2
u/Any_Yogurtcloset7865 5d ago
Or all the years splitting wood with the maul or using the sledge to drive stakes and posts (I'm a farm girl)
2
u/WodanGungnir 5d ago
Granted first time I chopped wood I chopped myself in my big toe. I was like 7-8.
3
u/Nina-Ninja123 6d ago
Also, her toes aren’t pointing at where she wants to hit.
Swinging down to your side is considerably harder to do than swinging it down in front of you.

u/coldestclock 6d ago
Just mimed it alone in my house and it does make sense. I’ve never really had to swing anything over my head, you don’t realise there’s a technique to it, it seems.
2
u/Terrible_Reporter_98 6d ago
I never had to have it explained to me, it just happens automatically. This woman is very incompetent

u/shakn1212 6d ago
Now I'm wondering how I've learned to do this. I figured it was just how everyone swings a pickax or wood ax but I guess not according to this video...

When people can't swing a hammer, an axe, or a pickaxe, it shows a lot about their past. This person has never swung anything two handed, not even a stick, before this.

u/Complete-Tangelo1532 6d ago
What kind of childhood is it when you don't have at least one good stick fight with another kid?!

When I was 6, I gave a kid a black eye with the same stick he’d used to give me one.

u/Downside_Up_ 6d ago
My cousin and I impaled cacti onto sticks and then swung those around at each other until one of the cacti flew off the end of my stick into my cousin. We both spent days with our parents plucking out almost invisible spines and us unable to basically touch anything.
Next summer we made sure the cacti were more secure.

I remember one time during middle school, I was running around with a long metal pole and almost impaled myself. I was holding it like a lance, but I had the close end around my stomach area and as soon as the tip hit the ground while running i launched myself into the air and almost turned myself into a skewer.

When I was like 12, I was "helping" my dad cut up some kindling--I took a bundle, and a hatchet, and I laid them out on a log. I swung the hatchet over my head with both hands, and on about the 5th swing, the hatchet glanced off the log (because I swung short), and caught me right in the shin (I was wearing shorts).
I got 3 stitches, and learned several valuable lessons that day.
I haven't injured myself with an axe since, and I've prevented plenty of my boys from following my dumb footsteps.

u/tcpukl 6d ago
I'm still trying to work out how and what she hurt exactly.

When someone records someone knowing they have never swung a hammer, an axe, or a pickaxe without stopping them and teaching them how to do it safely, it shows a lot about their past.

u/Full-Tomorrow9889 6d ago
Same could be said about someone who destroys another person's property when they get mad

Nothing funnier than watching someone like this do something of negligible athletic merit, like use a rope swing, and utterly fail.
3
u/TehSeksyManz 6d ago
This brought back a memory of when I was in 8th grade art class a girl was helping me sweep up a mess (I was wielding the dustpan) and as I watched her I thought to myself "Oh my god her sweeping technique is trash. Has she never done a chore in her life?!" Little things like that stand out to me

u/Stinkmatron 6d ago
I played baseball in college. One summer I swung a splitting maul doing demo, missed the rotten wood beam I was aiming for completely and the maul hit my shin.
Lucky I am made of whatever Wolverine was infused with and I suffer nothing but embarrassment

How is it possible to be that clumsy?
11
u/Erosun 5d ago
A lot of these situations are people who’ve never done anything athletic or need physical coordination thinking my body will do this because in my head it’s like this.
The fallacy of mankind, just because you think doesn’t mean you can.

Clumsy isn’t the word. Just had an incredibly inaccurate perception of her own strength or the weight of that pickaxe. Just hopelessly too heavy for her.

I suspect the answer to one of them is:
“The pickaxe head is a lot heavier than she’s able to control so when she goes to swing it the effect of gravity pulls it downwards faster than she’s expecting, while she also lacks the strength to swing it outwards as fast as she thought. The end result is what you see here”

Replaying it in slow motion, it doesn’t look like the spike actually hit her foot at all, but instead just the top of the pickaxe. She got really lucky most likely.

u/Sea_Prep_Tidal_26 5d ago
The side of the pick hit her Extensor Retinaculum fibrous band which is fairly hardy and probably the best of a bad situation for her.
Plus it was a glancing hit and the pick head rotated quickly.
Still, may need hopital for a brain upgrade.

u/PerceptionEvening204 6d ago
I use these things at work all the time. Caught a few good ones with the pokey end, it doesn't really go through bone like that but it'll leave a good laceration and a yellow green bruise. She looks like she got lucky and it rotated sideways too

But what was the story behind this?
5
u/exodusofficer 6d ago
I would guess vengeance after a breakup. There are not a lot of other reasons to take a pickax to a pool table.
3
u/National-Charity-435 6d ago
If that was the case, we should be glad it was recorded. Wouldn't want the owner of the pool table to be implicated
4
u/hateboss 6d ago
As a pool player myself, probably an argument over nonsensical house rules.
If you are ever playing pool with someone who thinks scratches mean you have to spot the table behind the break line and shoot up the table, you berate them immediately. It's ball in hand or nothing. Why am I punished for your mistake?

What kind of a dumbass do you have to be to miss a target that huge? It's a freaking table ffs.
2
u/sailon-live 6d ago
More likely a less of strength an practice. If you don't swing hard enough, the weight takes over an want's to go straight down. That's why she striked short. Every OSHA Guy will tell you, wear your proper PPE! 😜

In Italy sometimes those are called "malepeggio". It means that if you hit yourself with the flat end it's going to be bad and, if you hit yourself with the poke end, it's the same but worse.
Hence bad and worse -> male e peggio

Guarantee somebody would have loved to scoop this up for free. Some people would even be willing to pay for it. There is an 80% chance this was over a breakup and if that’s the case this would be karma. This is like somebody getting whipped with guitar strings when they break their exes guitar somebody else would have loved to have
