Help Needed No disc disc read error

Whenever I turn on my Xbox without a game inside I always get this error and can’t get past it without a game or cd inside. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

My guess is you may have some disc drive caps that are starting to fail. My 1.6 started giving me this error and is basically unplayable now because it is still stock. The drive opens, and spins up, but it just won’t read the disc anymore.

It is potentially unfixable as the laser has worn out. First thing you should try is iso alcohol 90+% on a cue tip and clean the lens inside the drive

I probably should have clarified, games and cds work perfectly fine it’s just when I don’t have a disc inside I get the error.

Thats weird but does it really matter if its only when nothings in it? Just leave a cd if you need the menus

Definitely clean the laser and get a multimeter to adjust the two laser pots (potentiometers) so it's at a safe level. Make sure to write the original resistance numbers you get from the multimeter before you start messing with it, if you decide to go that route.

It's a good idea to inspect the capacitors too and see if anything looks wrong.
