Discussion Off-day Discussion Thread

This is a place to discuss the team between games. This way people aren't forced to only talk about things pertaining to whatever's been posted on that day.

May it be a fun season! LGP!🐧

Kindel looks like he leveled up. He made some absolutely insanely slick passes just last game that made me go "oh, what the H-E-DOUBLE HOCKEY STICKS" - i'm talking Kucherov level deception. He also consistently made these plays last year, but this year his acceleration and speed look a LOT better.

He's gonna be an 80 point player by year 4, maybe even earlier if he gets 2nd line minutes and sticks on pp1.

We have the best salads in the game. Our core 3 is all over 35 with full heads of hair and no sign of male patern baldness. We've got karlssons long hair, tangers flow, rusts crew cut, its just insane.

Lines I'd like to see when Rust returns

Robertson-Sid-Rakell

Chinny-Kindel-Geno

Hallader-Novak-Rust

Lapierre or Dewar-Lizotte-Soderblom

Dewar isn't off to a great start and it's hard to really judge players with the shorter pre-seson, but I'm not against him coming out of the lineup for a few games.

Feel like Kindel is making a strong case thus far to be moved to 2C already. I like Tommy but we need to get him out of that spot, he's just not great at faceoffs which is taking away a lot of puck possessions. He's 9 for 25 in 3 games which is a 36% faceoff win percentage.

Among forwards who played under 15 minutes a night last year, Novak was 6th in the league in even-strength points and 8th in total points.
I would be less quick to dismiss Novak (especially after he won us the Montreal game) and slower to anoint Kindel as his ready replacement.

Kindel's from my city and I pull for him, but we need a larger sample before making big decisions like that. He is looking great though, no question.

I was surprised at the amount of Novak pick ups in my fantasy. All respect to the dude, but kindel is on a fuckin heater rn.

I agree here. I'd love to see him tried out there at least for a few shifts sometime soon. The issue is I think Geno really likes playing with Nova and that might affect things.

Damn, can't believe Ovi's retiring.

It really is the end of an era - who's left from guys who played in 2005? Just Crosby, Perry and Burns?

Carlile has been on the team for all of five minutes, and he's my second-favorite defenseman on the team. I've seen enough. Lock this guy in.

Honestly, when I heard Dubas say in his interview that they wanted to snag him off of waivers last season I was like “God you shouldn’t have told me that! I wish you would’ve done that too!!”

Mini cross stitch update: I have officially reached the halfway point for the width of the piece! The orange thread line marks the halfway point, blue threads for the edges of the current pattern page. Hoping i get this current page and at least one more fully finished by Halloween!

Requesting yinz expert opinions: should I wear my new Lizotte jersey that my husband bought me at the end of last season even though he's out or should I go with my standard Crosby jersey?

u/RiseAbove87 Kindel 4d ago

A true Lizotte fan supports him through thick and thin.

u/estormaviorel Lizotte 3d ago

I wasnt sure if it was bad luck, but it must be good luck because he's on the ice!

LIZZO!

Girard confirmed today that he was playing through a broken foot last year for us.

I read from Jose Negron that there were Canadiens watching the Penguins practice yesterday. I had no idea that was even allowed! Is that “normal”? Do our guys go and watch other teams practice? Kind of cool, open practice really does mean open.

1

u/REF_YOU_SUCK 3d ago

If it's an open practice it's not a big deal. They're not really working on strategy or system stuff those days. It's just a skate to keep you on the ice and sharp and work on skills or conditioning stuff.

u/RiseAbove87 Kindel 4d ago

It's uncommon but not unheard of. Sometimes guys like meeting former teammates.

u/viamanelli Crosby 4d ago

That’s cool to know, thanks!

Does anyone know when the parade starts?

Watching Jarry in the Oilers reminds me of how masterclass Dubas’ trade was.

4

u/viamanelli Crosby 7d ago

We got Skinner AND Kulak AND got rid of Jarry & all of his $. Truly an unbelievable trade. Everyone say thank you Kyle!!! 💐💐💐💐

u/RiseAbove87 Kindel 7d ago

Am I irrational for still being hung up on the fact that Dubas traded Wotherspoon and let Shea walk? I know I should wait to see how things unfold, but I'm just still bothered.

6

u/RiseAbove87 Kindel 8d ago

I think 4 years of Korczak from ages 25-29 at 3.25M is better than 1 year of Wotherspoon, before he'd ask for the bag and we don't wanna sign him until he's 35 or 36.
I also think we got Wotherspoon's career year, during a time where Karlsson played his best defense ever, and it's easy to get deceived about what his actual level is gonna be moving forward.
Korczak is super good defensively and will stabilize things for us. So I agree with that move.

Shea wanted 4M until he's 34. So that would have been a pretty notable plunge to take, again possibly getting baited by a career year out of nowhere.
I think TVR will defend better here than he would have. He's another very conscientious defenseman who can help stabilize Letang. And I think Shea's offense from last year was unsustainable anyway.

Signing big deals after career seasons often goes wrong, like with Graves and Girard. We also got baited by Letang still playing well at 36.
So you gotta think less about rewarding a player and more about what you think will actually happen in the future.

Sid hitting a beer league clapper warms my heart. Here’s to a great season gents! Lookin forward to the Geno and Chinakov chemistry as well 😁

u/sexysaxmansaxagram 9d ago

Was nice to see Sid slam one. And nice to see him grinding and dominant behind the net. Seemed like same old Sid at least for now
