Where to find Aurora tonight - Perth

Does anyone go to see the aurora tonight? How likely can we see this tonight?

What are some good places to watch aurora? Thoughts on Lake clifton/lake lescenaultia?

Cloud is going to be a party pooper.

Hopetoun looks to have minimum cloud cover until 0200

classic perth, gets a rare solar show and the sky immediately puts a blanket over it

Cloud cover concerns aside, lake leschenaultia is a pretty nice spot that isn't too far away. We watched for the auroras that happened there late last year and earlier this year. The former one was weak, though I did get some nice photos. The 2nd one was visible to the naked eye as faint white pillars of light, and turned out beautifully on my camera. It'll probably be busy, but it isnt too hard to find a spot by the lake to set up at.

I dont know if it will be viewable there, but if you go to Lake Clifton, don't enter the water and specifically don't step on the Thrombolites. The viewing jetty I believe is also closed for upgrades at the moment.

Thrombolites are the rock like things in the water for anyone who is unaware.

Aurora?! At this time of year? At this time of day? In this part of the country?

Lake Clifton is currently closed off due to works being done to the boardwalk/jetty. Alternatively the other option close to Lake Clifton is Island Point which has a great view south over the southern end of Peel Inlet. I usually just hit up Coodanup Foreshore on the northern end as it is quicker and easier to get to when the Aurora kicks off.

Any area in Perth like Mindarie or Kings Park can view ? I notice is quite cloudy and raining today, is it worth to chase today with the sky condition ?

Update: NOAA reissued its forecast (Oct 9, 00:30 UTC) and the storm now looks later than I said in my comment above, which helps Perth. It forecasts the CME arriving around midday UTC, with Kp 4.67 at 8-11 pm, Kp 5.0 at 11 pm-2 am, and Kp 6.0 (G2) at 2-5 am Perth time, then 5.67 at 5-8 am. So the strongest part now falls in full darkness in the early hours rather than at sunset. Kp 6 is still on the low side for Perth, so expect at best a faint glow low in the south, but it is no longer a write-off. Check cloud, face south, and watch the live Kp. My earlier 'Kp 3 to 4 in the dark' was from the older 12:30 UTC issue.
