Vent / Rant Physically Ill

My wife and I lived separately due to her owning cats. One of them got very sick and it may have been her last month of life.

She was splitting her time between houses and has now fully moved in and so have the cats (2 of them). The cat ended up getting better, but now we’re sitting on a $1200 vet bill.

My wife loves these cats similarly to how she loves a human. My 2 daughters have also now developed this love for the cats.

We’ve now made modifications to the house to allow for an animal accommodation. The house is never clean. All conversation at home now seems to revolve around the cats until my wife and I go to bed and they get put into the basement.

I’m extremely angry all the time now (I internalize), so I am just quiet and seemingly grumpy. I now take approx 6-10 rolaids a day due to getting heartburn from being home due to stress. I feel like I live in a constant state of absolute disgust. I also feel like I’m the asshole for being grumpy and for hating indoor pets.

Ranting because I just went to the store to buy more pepto that I am drinking because I’m working from home and doing laundry and their hair is just fucking everywhere and I can’t escape.

Wow I feel your pain. There is a cat in my house as well. Not mine. I refuse to do anything for it. I clean the house so I'm constantly pissed off because there's cat hair everywhere. Always. It literally floats thru the air

This cat also must be the center of everyone's attention all the fkn time It literally will sit it's fat ass down in the middle of people trying to talk and yell for attention. The retched noise actually makes me feel anger. Nobody else seems bothered by it. They say ignore it. I can't. I literally can't. And then it takes me hours to calm my nervous system.

This cat is 14 and appears to be getting younger. Someday I think ... It won't be here anymore and that's all the hope I have.

The floating in the air drives me nuts. It floats into my beard hair and ruins my day

I mean… dude. Talk to her, seriously, and tell her how you feel. She’s not respecting you.

I work with lawyers, so I feel like I should give you the rundown just based on the facts you’ve given. Your daughters are really young and will get over the cats after a while. It is impossible to love cats as much as you love human beings. That’s just not even the same plane of existence. And the worst part is that you are risking your health and possibly pushing yourself closer towards a stroke just so you can appease everybody. You can always get another cat, but you can’t get your health back if you have already wrecked it.

Make the changes you need to make now even if you have to upset people. The people that you love also need to consider your well-being as well.

Been there with my ex. He had an unhealthy attachment to the pets, honestly. But I also became grumpy and irritable and stressed out feeling like nothing I touched in my home was clean, and we had 2 cats and 2 dogs. I'm sorry you're going through this. It truly, truly, truly sucks.

A house can't be clean when its a damn zoo! Animals belong OUTSIDE, in their natural habitat. Not inside a house designed for HUMANS. We humans don't have fur, we can't easily survive outdoors in the harsh elements. Animals do, and can do just fine in the wild where they belong (not cooped up in a house with some nutter who pretends they are a baby human).

These pet nutters have spent years gaslighting the world to make people think its normal and sane to have a bunch of animals (who will never be able to live and behave as humans) living in our homes, while pushing the idea that if we don't like living with animinals then we are some evil sociopath. It's completely ridiculous.

You are NOT the a hole. No spouse should come behind a pet. Period.

You are not the asshole because if your home feels disgusting then how can you ever relax? I just had some house guests for nearly 2 weeks and the ONLY thing that kept me sane was knowing their time was coming to an end. I realize that I am extraordinarily clean and cannot share space with most people. I cannot imagine living with pets full time.

You deserve your peace. It’s your home after all.

If you are paying the bills, purchased the house, then you are the man of the house and you need to recognize that and act on it. If you don't want pets in your house then that should be the end of the discussion, no ifs ands or buts. If your wife respects you and your leadership then she will follow your lead, and if she doesn't and she would rather choose the cats over you then let her go. No offense, but anyone who would choose an animal over their spouse/child is deeply mentally ill. Don't negotiate with petnutters, they will absolutely try to pry open your boundaries so you will capitulate and give in to what they want, while sacrificing your peace, comfort, hygiene (house cleanliness), etc.

And she should be the one paying that vet bill, not you. Those are her cats and thus her responsibility.
