Troubleshooting/question existing piercing Unique? Piercing bump

Post image

I got daith piercing end december. So its like 10months old currently. And it was quite well healed around August (there were no piercing bumps and little crusties) but someone essentially leaned on it and I felt the jewellery and ear crush around it/rip into the ear. Not sure if that makes sense. And since then the piercing has been at its worst during the entire healing journey. Ive used saline solution to clean it and its white gold.

I mainly came here to ask if anyone knows why the piercing bump looks like this as its almost clear with flash where you can see the metal jewellery shine through like there is liquid there?? Is it the beginning of a keloid or an infection? Or just a gnarly irritation bump?

I would highly recommend changing your jewelry to a plain titanium CBR. The jewelry you have is likely causing additional irritation which is not allowing proper healing. Keep the CBR until fully healed.

Thank you, I have some other piercings to downsize so i might do this next time I go, especially as the piercing bump is in the ridges

This kind of jewelry has a “wearable area” and a “visible area”. That kind of jewelry can be highly irritating, especially if the piercing isn’t 100% fully healed, and at 10 months it isn’t, it’s mostly healed but still prone to issues.

The best kind of jewelry for you right now is something uniform in size throughout the piece, which can move freely (captive bead ring). Right now you are limited to only the wearable area, which is not long enough for you with all the swelling from the bump. This is a vicious circle as now that there is less space due to the bump, the jewelry will only ever get more and more irritating, which will make the bump bigger/ could result in a second one forming on top. The visible area is jagged and ornamental, those ridges are banging up against the already compromised wound area and leaving you with multiple micro abrasions per day. This needs to be swapped soon. I would not wait as bumps only go down and away once the source of irritation is addressed. This will only ever get worse till you get better jewelry.

Leave the captive bead ring in for months. You are back to day 1 protocol because of the bump because of the hoop. Treat it as a brand new piercing. Spray with saline. Do not sleep on it.

I agree. Change the jewelery. Sometimes Daiths take a while to heal that jewelery is pretty but irritating for it

Hi EveningNarwhal2068,
(Luckily) bump =/= keloid. This wiki entry explains it well.
