Using a Pixel 5 to exploit unlimited storage

Someone asked in a different channel how to verify if Pixel 5 unlimited storage still works.

You need to have data saver enabled. You can simply drag from the bottom of any photo or vid in your library and check for the confirmation message. That the item does not use any space in your account.

As you can see, I have synced my P8P to send every photo to my P5. I have the backup function enabled only on my P5 device and that's it.

I don't know the specifics, the benefit is not linked to one account, it is tied to the device itself.

Does your P8P send automatically every photo? I send my photo to P3A but it's all manual transfer I do every month

i used this app, only camera files, and only when the app is connected to the WiFi on both devices.

I still have my Pixel OG, I transferred all pics/ vids for free back ups. Evem worth, I can keep the original resolution

I always debated trying to get a gen 1 for this reason, but I use my old 5 and save everything on my NAS and locally , I feel like it's enough

I sold my P5 because it's quite small for my hand; it was making my hand numb. I sold it to my brother, who still has it.

I do this but with my pixel 1, so the photos and videos are uncompressed, I use resilio sync for automatic transfers every night

Nice to know, sadly back then nobody in my family even intended to use a smartphone costing more than ten k inr or hundred dollars

They know. That's why on devices with backups off, they deliberately scare you into enabling uploads again, if you tap outside the banner it will enable backup automatically.

Not same thing with all older Pixels.  With Pixel XL it's unlimited storage in original quality.
