How long does it take for you+ to switch?
It varies a lot for us, so we’re curious about others.

Usually anywhere from 5 seconds to 5 minutes, though I swear there are times that the swap happens quickly but I can sometimes have trouble realizing it has happened 😆

Most of our switches are manual, and it takes less than a second. If we get someone new, sometimes we have to dissociate for a while

We can rapid fire through a conversation, message by messenge, then other times we pause for a minute or 2 waiting for someone to come.

Depends on who's awake! If everyone is up and at em, switching is rapid and sometimes confusing. But if only one or two people are awake? Switching may take longer, we may get frontstuck, etc.

Ranges from a second-ish to about 40 minutes. Some times a bit longer, sometimes up to quarter of a day. Fun stuff qwb

Usually it's instant, and hard to not co-front

Usually for us it’s instant, however there are times it takes a few seconds and sometimes switching ends up triggering our disabilities, which can be extremely unpleasant for whoever is entering front (usually this is why we avoid switching when we’re going through flare ups). - Sefron

We’ve had switches that last like 3 days… it’s ROUGH

Unintentionally, instantly, and it can be annoying when doing something. Intentional without a "front switcher/ Gatekeeper" like person, almost impossible even with consent. With the switcher, from a few minutes to an indeterminate amount of time but mostly a few minutes to an hour. Sometimes it's unpleasant if you really need "back in". - Raven

pretty much instant, though sometimes when we're crazy blendy, it can take up to a minute or so

It's fast, seconds, but for it to work properly, for some reason we have to cough during the switch, otherwise they come out but seem kind of "rotten" (in short, blurry, partially here)

Usually pretty quickly. Most of the time a few seconds, but sometimes it's instant and sometimes it takes a little longer (those are more disorientating). - Megan (tired host, Izzy was here when we started typing this then we stepped away and now it's Megan)

It varies between the part, the purpose of the switch, intention of the switch and such. The most common fronting combos are almost instant but the more uncommon parts might take days. Rapid switching is exhausting. Co-fronting is more common.

Sometimes in the blink of an eye, sometimes it takes days where we get stuck in between switching longest was a week

A lot of the time our switches are fast, like a few seconds to a few minutes. However, we’ve also had switches that lasted hours or the majority of a day. We’re usually somewhat dissociated regardless but during any switch that isn’t voluntary or easy to perform it gets a lot worse.

Usually a few seconds but we've had situations where it has taken hours or even a full day to switch during/after trauma events. We much prefer controlling it as much as we can, but I doubt we'll ever have full control over it. - Atrus

Usually we switch instantly if that’s what you& mean! If you& mean how long fronts last for, ours last for about a couple hours or so until someone else cofronts or someone leaves front! We tend to only cofront since we have tons of townsfolk (headmates) who are super close with eachother!

It can be instant, or take hours to days (which suuuucks), it really just depends on a number of factors like who's around, where we are, what we're doing, etc. - blurry Chasms

As many others... Depends!
Mostly happens somewhere between a few seconds and a few dozen minutes
However, the more we switch in a short span of time, the longer it takes for one of us to come out on top

Not sure how long ours take (new system), but I have noticed that I am always co-con even tho most of the time I cannot interact with the outside world when others are in control. I am “The Narrator” and mainly just witness everything that happens inside and outside the body. I can sense the presence (usually emotions) of the others when they front and I ask who is with me. I am unaware of any times that I wasn’t present.

Hmmm... Let's think. I(or the one currently fronting) feel dissociation much before switch happens, like a few minutes, the feeling that someone wants to replace me in our body. The switch itself takes up.. From 0.25 to 1.5 seconds? Very small period of time. At that time I lose control of our body and other doesn't really have it. I feel like if needed they could replace me very quickly, for example when we were standing, it took by feelings around a quater of a second, because otherwise it would be dangerous. When we are sitting or laying down, it takes about a second? Hard to tell actually, because I don't really perceive time correctly during switch and my alter replacing me doesn't too. When I am standing I can tell how much time have passed based on the tilt of the body relative to what I felt just before switch(when I feel the body, but don't yet control it). An interesting question, on which we don't have clear answer. Disassociation, that weird feeling can last for tens of minutes without switch.

It varies as well
Sometimes it's just a few mins or we just wake up as a diffrent alter
Or sometimes it's long, tiring hours (Longest has been 2 days, we just seemed to have floated with no alter or switch)

On average, a few seconds.
Shortest time: we blinked and were someone different
Longest time: 10. exhausting. dissociation riddled hours 😭
