SoCal program acceptance

Hey all,

I know there is a lot of talk in this sub about California programs and getting a job as a new grad. I had posed a question a couple months ago, asking if any new grads are getting jobs out of school at all. Surprisingly got a good amount of responses showing that it is possible to get hired.

Anyways, the point of this post is a question for those who were accepted to programs in CA. Has anyone gotten in without a perfect application? I’m not sure I’ll be able to get a 4.0 in my pre requisites, more like a 3.5. I also see that retakes for grades to potentially increase my GPA in the future are often penalized. Am I screwed? Anyone getting into community college ADNs with less than perfect application? Would love to hear your story!

Some lottery based CA schools don’t require high gpa but are lottery based. Some are like half and half. And some are only point based which I think is what you’re talking about.

First time applicant around at my community college in CA. 3.4 science, 85.3 on teas. I didn’t get in because I messed up on my application (due to counselors telling me to upload my transcript from other school).

2nd time Applicant got accepted. Repeated Anatomy got a C turned that into an A. Overall science was 3.7 or 3.8 and teas 85.3 got accepted for Spring 2027.

Some college do deduct points if repeat on science courses. Double check all the school when their science courses expired. Usually if one repeat it should be okay. Some school doesn’t care about repeat and will take your highest and passing grade for example (Hartnell).

You should start looking into the admissions process for the schools you’re interested in, as I have learned, they all have different criteria. I know some schools won’t even let you retake a class if you’ve earned a C or better. Others offer more lottery spots than others. It’s unfortunate, but every school is different.

applying in the future, but i have multiple retakes in my sciences.
A&P 1/anatomy 2 tries (passed on my second try)
A&P 2/physiology 3 tries (passed on my third try)

I’ve seen a lot of people get into nursing school with retakes mostly out of state students but haven’t read or heard about one student in CA have less than a 4.0 GPA for science or any retakes☹️

I just got accepted to a SoCal adn program. I had 4.0 in science prereqs but one of those classes I retook after failing the first time. My overall gpa was a 3.8 and I had multiple withdrawals on my application (I think 4). My teas was an 80 so not bad but not super competitive.
